Karen was still a little nervous around Kang, and quiet, even after spending a couple of days with him, and he couldn't really blame her. At least she wasn't terrified of him anymore, and she wasn't all that difficult to watch over. He'd even managed to find a few things to help keep her entertained in Possessions (the Fairplay memories were definitely coming in handy in this case; he wouldn't have known what type of things human children typically liked to do otherwise).

He had duties at the tavern, though, and decided to bring her along with him. She'd offered to help him out, but there really wasn't anything a child as young as her could do, so he'd handed her some paper and crayons and set her up at a table next to the bar, asking her to draw some pictures for the tavern. That way, she was occupied and out of the way, and still felt that she was doing something to help.

He made sure to keep an eye on her as he went about his usual business, checking up on her every now and then to make sure she wasn't bored.

"Little girls?" Were she more paranoid and genre savvy, she might suspect he was bringing up little girls alongside the livestock, in order to eat them. But, no, this was innocent and clueless Karen, so that never crossed her mind. "You're a daddy?"

He nods. "Yes. None of my daughters are awake here yet. But Veronica, at least, is probably going to wake up sometime. She was with me when all this happened." A pause. "They used to help me milk the cows."

"Ah... I hope they wake up soon." He didn't seem too bad... he sounded like he really missed them. "Then they can help you again."

"Thank you. I hope so. That would be very nice." A pause. "Do you have any interest in milking cows, Karen?"

"Nuh-uh." She wrinkled her nose. "That sounds gross..."

He smiles. "I suppose it does."

"Um--sorry," she said hastily. He seemed nice, but he was still scary. She didn't want him to be angry at her.

"It is quite all right. It is a very valid opinion. But of course, it is how we get cream, and cheese." Pause. "Do you like cheese?"

"Uh-huh. And ice cream, too." She looked thoughtful. "So I guess someone's got to do it..."

"Perhaps I shall let you know when I make some?" He offers. "I prefer ice cream plain, but some of my daughters like flavors. What is your opinion?"

"Strawberry!" Karen said suddenly, in surprise. What a kind offer. "Um, but-- whatever you're able to make is okay, though..."

He smiles. "My daughter Veronica likes strawberry best, too. I am not certain I can do better than plain, but I will see what I can manage."

Veronica might be nice to meet. Aftran hoped she'd wake up someday... That would be nice for the Chancellor, too.

"Um, you don't have to if it's too hard."

"I do not know if it is too hard until I try, do I?" He asks, smiling again, though trying to keep the show of fangs minimum.

"I-I guess not..." She did catch a glimpse of his fangs and quickly looked down again. "Um..."

And the Chancellor notices. Oh dear. He should be more careful.

"Are you from Earth, Karen?"

"Um-- uh-huh." She nods. "Where're you from?"

"The planet I live on is called Camelot, but many of my friends lived on Earth long ago."

"Camelot? Isn't that where King Arthur lived, though?"
