Avalanche [Closed]
Eva waits outside the Med Bay, rocking herself slightly back and forth on her heels. Every few moments, she paces and barely resists the urge to peak into the Med Bay and hopefully see her son conscious and better, but she knows that the latter, at least, is highly unlikely.
She doesn't know what to do. She should be there in the room, waiting for him to wake and making sure he's okay, like a mother should. Not standing out here. Not being the enemy. Again.
But she knows that she's always going to be the empty packaging for Visser One first, and Eva a distinct second, and this has just proved it to her over again.
So rather than going in and taking care of her son, like she should be doing, she just keeps pacing and running her hands through her hair and biting her lip and waiting for Kang.

Luckily, he didn't have to track her down, as she was right outside.
"I told Kaya to keep an eye on him when he wakes up, just in case, but not why," he said quietly. "I also told her to let me know if he leaves."

Usually, talking about the logistics behind a situation is easier. If X then Y, if we want to minimize the damage then this measure should be taken - but right now it offers no comfort, because it's her son, and she doesn't know what's wrong with him but he's angry and scared and confused and possibly unwell. Eva herself looks on the verge of breaking down.
She looks up at Kang. "I should hide. There are things he did when I was infested that he'd never forgive himself for doing to me free."

He shook his head, snorting, "You're not going to hide. One, you shouldn't have to when you're free, and two, it may look even more suspicious to him. It's better to go about your normal life. At the same time, I don't want you to be alone until this gets taken care of, just in case. Aximili and Rachel can help, and you know I'll keep you company."

She takes a deep breath, holds it, then lets it out her nose. She speaks forcefully. "Kang, I'm going to hide. Whatever the principles of the matter are, they're not worth taking this sort of risk. And he's going to be highly suspicious no matter what evidence he's presented with - you heard him in there. That wasn't hesitation. There won't be hesitation. This isn't me being scared or selfish, but I need to be hidden. Hopefully whatever's wrong is resolved quickly and it's just a brief jaunt in The City."
She reaches her his hand again, looking for something to cling on to.

"Kang," she whispers. "He'll kill me if he feels he has to. How's he supposed to live with that, if he does? This isn't a risk we can take."

"When does it end? We ended it five years ago. Edriss died five years ago."
And a week ago, but Eva can't tell Kang that, at least not now.

"Sorry, you really need to start carrying around a tissue for me," she says, patting the wet spot on his tunic. "So what now, Kang?"

Being distracted won't fix this, but cleaning up glass is the most useful she can be right now. She pulls back from Kang but reaches up and gives him a quick squeeze on his shoulder, a silent 'thank you'.
