Melting Clock: Med Bay's First Arrivals
Things had been running as usual down in the med-bay, and to first appearances, this week wasn't going to be different.
But first appearances could be deceiving. This week was going to be different. And as the next few days passed by, the Medical Department was going to find that they now had quite a situation on their hands.
[[ooc: Okay, so this post is just for the affected characters who go into the Med-Bay before Quarantine, the Medical peeps who volunteered, and also the people who bring in said affected characters. If you've already organised who you'll thread with for this, just put their names in the subject line. If you're happy for any of the Medical guys to tag in, then just put "Open". There's also an ooc planning post for this if you want to try and plot for this.
Also, please note that both in terms of the timeline, both Kon and Jeka will be the last two to be brought in, regardless of thread order - they're essentially the ones who'll show up right before Quarantine, and be the ones that clue in Medical as to what's really happening here.]]

"Ax seems to be concerned about you - at least I don't see any record of him randomly bringing people into Med Bay. I could just call him on the comm rings and ask what he thinks is wrong. Or you could tell me what you think is wrong here, because something is."

"Fine," Rachel snapped, but was quickly trying to come up with a lie. She was unwilling to let Ax be called, since he apparently couldn't actually be trusted. She didn't know what he might say-- but if he were being controlled, who knows what he'd already said. "I've been dizzy, and had headaches," she said, the first thing that came to mind. "But it's no big deal."

"If you've in enough pain that other people are noticing, then that is a big deal. Have you hit your head recently, maybe in training?" She scooped up a multifunction device from the tray beside her, and set it to function as an ophthalmoscope. "Any blurred or double vision? Or sensitivity to bright lights? Not that there's a lot of those on Stacy," she joked.

Ah, and wasn't that always fun in a patient. Was she hurt and unwilling to show it, or confused, or determined to tough it out? Was she in some sort of personal conflict with Ax, or just one of those people who just knew that she knew more than any medical personnel?
"Did you make it down to XaXing, by the way? Pick up anything interesting?" Her fingers were entering data into the computer, but one eye was watching Rachel carefully. She might have picked up something like a virus, or maybe some recreational drugs.

Still, she could play along with the questions, even if she didn't trust them. "Mostly bought clothes," she said, shrugging-- and, indeed, the girl was well dressed--"Nothing much else."

She was better dressed than Anwei, certainly, who was just wearing a slightly too-large military jacket over her plantsuit. "And when did you start feeling unwell? On XaXing, or after you got back?"
no subject
"I got a headache not that long ago," Rachel lied. "So after we got back."

She hoped she wouldn't have to run down a list of what it might be, to try and scare Rachel into staying. A head injury bad enough that she couldn't remember getting it, some sort of malfunction in a XaXing memory-selling transaction, a virus or other contaminant affecting the brain and the inner ear, experimenting with some newly purchased cognition-enhancing drug.

Worst case she'd get out of there early, so she could figure out what was going on.
