Melting Clock: Med Bay's First Arrivals

Things had been running as usual down in the med-bay, and to first appearances, this week wasn't going to be different.

But first appearances could be deceiving. This week was going to be different. And as the next few days passed by, the Medical Department was going to find that they now had quite a situation on their hands.

[[ooc: Okay, so this post is just for the affected characters who go into the Med-Bay before Quarantine, the Medical peeps who volunteered, and also the people who bring in said affected characters. If you've already organised who you'll thread with for this, just put their names in the subject line. If you're happy for any of the Medical guys to tag in, then just put "Open". There's also an ooc planning post for this if you want to try and plot for this.

Also, please note that both in terms of the timeline, both Kon and Jeka will be the last two to be brought in, regardless of thread order - they're essentially the ones who'll show up right before Quarantine, and be the ones that clue in Medical as to what's really happening here.]]

"Wait, Ax? Seriously?" Marco said, incredulous. He felt unease begin to settle in his gut - he'd thought that he could at least rely on Ax and Rachel to back him up. Except if Ax was putting Rachel in here...

"Kang put me here. My guess is he wants me out of the way so Visser fucking One can continue to saunter around like Mom's body is her own personal palace," he said bitterly.

"Seriously," Rachel replied, virtually bristling, still glaring. If she saw Ax later... without Jake around, if Ax wasn't listening to her--

The thought was momentarily derailed when Marco explained why he was there. "What the hell?!" Rachel snapped. "Since when did he have a fucking say?" she growled. Maybe it wasn't personal like it was with Marco-- but like hell was she going to let Visser One parade around free.

"The Visser's managed to convince a lot of people that she's really my mother," Marco said grimly. "And I suspect Stacy's had her hand in this too - you know there's a girl that she gave memories too? She made her think she was someone else! And you know what she's like with Yeerks that wake up from the pods. She thinks they're crew, just like the rest of us. I'm betting that she decided to mess with a few people's minds to stop us from killing the slug. As for Kang," Marco scowled. "I think he knows exactly what she really is. He just doesn't care. He wanted to keep Tom infested too, remember?"

"And what, you wouldn't know your own mother?" Rachel growled, rolling her eyes. "But no-- of course fucking not. She's 'valuable crew,' right? If Stacy thinks it's perfectly okay to keep someone as a slave and let a Yeerk wander free to do whatever the hell it wants, then no one's going to argue. But like hell am I trusting the ship, let alone Visser One." Rachel was outright pissed about this. And there was no way that she going to stand by and let it happen. "Right. I guess he seems to think that the Yeerks should have some kind of say. So we just make sure to avoid him when we go after her."

"So Stacy thinks," Marco hissed. "Never mind her whole 'oh, I care about the crew' act. She just wants us all to be her mindless little soldiers."

Marco shifted on the bed, trying to think. "He'll have hidden her somewhere - he knows we'd go after her. And if even Ax has been convinced that there's something wrong with you...jeez, what if they got him brainwashed? We can't even go to him for help."

"Yeah," Rachel agreed. "I've heard enough of that crap. We're fighting against that stuff, not for it." She may not be infesting the crew-- but she was still trying to control them.

She nodded to Marco's observation, eyes narrowing again as her voice dropped dangerously low. "You said it yourself-- Stacy's even altered people's memories before. So Ax could easily be being controlled by her somehow." Which meant that they couldn't trust him, that he was probably compromised and they didn't even know what he'd said or done. "So we get out of here, and do it ourselves."

Marco nodded. Get out, save Mom, save Ax. Wasn't much of a plan - not yet - but he'd figure one out. If they could just find more intel...

He looked around the Med Bay. "No one's around right now. I don't think the staff know we can morph, or we'd be watched way more closely. We can morph, get out, and start looking for information on where the Visser is."

Rachel grinned at that, and nodded. She was already way ahead of Marco on that one, beginning to shrink down, her form shifting. It felt like it had been quite a while since she had had the opportunity, so before her mouth had morphed to prevent her from talking, she said it:
