Shore Leave: Arrival

After the briefing, the Orbs Deck disconnected from Stacy, making it's way down to the planet and landing on the top of what looked like...a mall.

Outside, a mismatch of buildings stretched as far as the eye could see on a backdrop of a sunny green sky, a few golden clouds lazily floating across it. Here there was a mall, there there was a endless parade of street shops, and over there was a bazaar. And everywhere you looked there was advertising, selling everything from kitchen knives to starship engines to pet cosmetic surgery.

And populating this world was a practically endless number of species's, all of them brought together by one thing: trading. Credit was being exchanged everywhere you looked, from the shiny exclusive stores to the the dark and dangerous spaces in-between.

As the crew stood around, a peculiar looking alien with a mustache approached them, his oddly-shaped legs and knees making it looks as if he was walking backwards even though he was coming forwards. And as he moved, his accordian-like midsection made moved, making a weird, wheezing noise that might remind some of the crew native to Earth of the sound of Fran Dresser's voice.

<Welcome to XaXing, strangers!> he said to them in thought-speak, eagerly rushing towards everyone. <I am Guide! Your ship has already arranged accommodation for you, and I have been employed to guide you there and answer your questions! But if you would just sell me your memories then I can also guide you to all of the best stores and markets...>

[[ooc: After this post, everyone is free to make their own posts on the planet! Just tag all logs for Shore Leave with !plot: shore leave.

Also, if you have any questions you can ask Guide! ...just be prepared for him to also try to buy your kidney.]]

Kang was happy. Oh, he remembered what had happened at Zokez II, but he knew that all they could do was make sure that they stayed on their guard while enjoying themselves. Unless the Ohm were following them for unknown reasons, it seemed a little unlikely that they'd show up during this shore leave, too.

He already knew exactly what most of his credits were going to be spent on: meat, alcohol, and other food items. He had very simple needs. The rest of it was likely to be spent on presents for the people he'd come to consider friends and family on the ship.

He was more than happy to have Chase accompany him, as well, for more reasons than another person to help carry things.

The... creature, whatever it was, that greeted them earned a quirked eyebrow ridge, "I'll keep my memories, thanks." Even the human set he'd received in Fairplay.

"Haven't seen him shed any yet, so I don't think he's in the market for selling scales... wings are definitely better off where they are. What, you friends with some'a the local fucking body shops?"

"...body parts aren't up for sale, either," Kang said, a little uneasily. Unconsciously, he pulled his wings in a little bit more.

[identity profile] j-y-d.livejournal.com 2011-04-09 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Didn't you hear him? No wings, no memories. What else are you in the market for that's worth big money?"

Yeah, creepy as hell, but Chase's world was awful. He's not entirely above dealing in the creepy with some things that will regrow anyway, if it means that Kang can keep the ship, and more specifically him, in real meat instead of slop for longer, or he can get some real SoCo or at least strong whiskey.

"No body parts," Kang said firmly, crossing his arms over his chest and lashing his tail as a warning. "Credits only, and I want to know where we can buy food and drink in bulk."

"Just out of curiosity there, Slimy, how does the memory thing work? I don't want to lose nothin', but if you're just, like, using dreamspeaking to copy things, and you know people into sex or violence... we can talk. Just want to make sure I get to keep those too."
He had some experience with... something akin to this, maybe. Worth checking.

"And he ain't selling nothing, but I'm still curious what'cha got big markets for. Might not come to nothing, but doesn't fucking hurt to ask, right? Oh yeah, and if you ever heard of a place called Earth, don't suppose you know where music or alcohol from there might be bought, would'ja?"

All worth asking, at minimum, he figures. This thing might be a bottom-feeding sleaze merchant, but he's met worse.

[identity profile] j-y-d.livejournal.com 2011-04-09 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Huh, some of my memories would make a pretty intense R rated movie. So its just a copy? We keep our memories, you just have a movie thing of them? How much do you pay for that?"

Kang shook his head, completely unsurprised about Chase. Turning to Guide, he asked, "How many credits?"

[identity profile] j-y-d.livejournal.com 2011-04-10 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
"I got plenty of clear memories of... guess you'd call them commando actions. Full length action memories, raiding factories, demon hives, fortified drug dens... I'll give you one of each... three full length action movies worth, monsters, demons and naked temptress demons galore worth... for 1000 credits, plus you show my friend here anything he wants to find, no extra charge or questions asked." Cause 1000 is a nice round number, no math or big haggling needed.

"You're more trusting than I am," Kang commented to Chase, grinning.

[identity profile] j-y-d.livejournal.com 2011-04-10 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Not really." Chase replies to Kang first. "Just hard to mess with my head, and I don't care if they want to put me on their big screen or whatever." He looks back to Guide. "Hey, that's up to him, but if you got a market for a couple fingers or a kidney or something, let me know." he adds with a grin.

Back to Kang again. "Besides... I am already fucking sick of slop. It works and all, but its worse than McDonalds, and my people are carnivores. If we don't get shore leave often, and we're stocking up on meat, I'm gonna make the best of it and get some real fucking money for this."

Kang didn't like the idea of selling off body parts, even if they were just scales, but if it meant not having to worry about payment anymore and allowed him to keep more of his credits for buying supplies...

Well, he could part with a few. They'd grow back.

"...alright. Three scales, and it's a deal."

"It is a strange request," Dhianeila spoke when her projection appeared near Kang. "But I'm sure those who do choose to share certain memories in turn give others the chance to experience the lifestyles and ways of others. I wonder what sorts this gentleman has collected over his time spent here."

Still, there were some memories that Dhianeila preferred not to share, but overall the idea of sharing important things, great experiences could influence others.

"Kang," she greeted afterwards with a small bow. "If you would be willing to take them, you can use the credits I have received to purchase things that would be beneficial to both our ship and its crew. I feel the presence of many down on the planet, so I will not be able to personally go down there to retrieve things myself."

"I don't like the idea of other people in my head," Kang's wings rustled. Memories were private things, and he had quite a few of them that he didn't want to share with just anyone, as well as some that he never wanted others to know about or experience.

He returned the bow with a smile, "I can do that. Is there anything you'd like me to pick up for you specifically, Dhianeila?"

[identity profile] dhianeila.livejournal.com 2011-04-09 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
After looking thoughtful for a moment, she shook her head with a smile. "No, I'm fine. Getting things for the crew at large will be beneficial to me as well, anyway."

Kang nodded, "Alright. I'll make sure to spend it wisely."

[identity profile] dhianeila.livejournal.com 2011-04-10 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Thank you very much."

She stood up straight, looking down the street at the multitudes of people, both ship crew and other visitors alike. "I think it's amazing that there's such a large hub for this sort of trading, don't you?"
governorkang: (Looking up)

[personal profile] governorkang 2011-04-11 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
"It doesn't surprise me much, actually. It's on a much larger scale than any market on my world, but it makes sense that there might be a planet or two devoted solely to trade amongst the races that are capable of space travel," Kang shrugged. He didn't really get surprised by much anymore.
