Gone fishing [Open]

It was, all things considered, a pretty good day. Sokka had decided to take the day off and spend the day doing something he loved: fishing. He wasn't sure if there were actually any fish in the river that ran through the city now, but that wasn't really the point. The point was that he had a body of water and a stick with a piece of line that was baited with a worm. He was happy to sit beneath the artificial sun, hat pulled over his eyes and stick held easily in his hands as he idled the day away. True, he could have done this in the Sensoriums but that wouldn't be the same. Real water was just more satisfying. And maybe he'd go for a swim later.

All in all it was shaping up to be a pretty good day.

She shook her head, although that part about him being "awake" already brought pangs of that day when she found out he was gone. t was good that she had Renne and Billy that day, only to have to lose Renne later.

She lowered her head a little. "You can say it," she said softly. "You told me, you have every right, just like with the Bene Gesserit. We talked, and Aang forgave me. Which means he just he said he forgave me, but we couldn't..."

She closed her eyes, clenching her fists. "There's always something, I should never have thought that we would be together, even after we got him back from the Nightmare King."

She stared at Sokka a moment. The look on her face was smiling, but it wasn't the type of happy smile Katara always wore, it was one that she'd put on when she was thinking of something from a long time ago that she couldn't quite remember, and thinking of that made her sad.

"If you want to call it that you can," she said softly. "But you say it like its something I'm happy with. Before you woke up Sokka, there was always one person I was thinking about, one person I wanted more than anything and anyone else. Knowing that, do you really think this kind of forgiveness is anything but punishment for me, that I can't be with him again even though we're both here, him and I?"

She shook her head. "The war. THIS war. What I've done. I feel like no matter what happens, no matter what decisions are made, it always ends with me waiting for him somehow, and loving him from far off. And I do love him, no matter what anyone says."

"There are a lot of things that I don't like about being here, but we ARE here, Sokka. Th ship picked us, of all people, from a world where most of our technology is terribly outdated, to fight in this war. And like it or not, the first person it chose was Aang. If there's anything we learned from all of this, its that Aang is fighting for the people on this ship, and other planets in danger of getting swallowed up by the Ohm. We owe it to our own planet and many others to make sure the Ohm won't take any more planets on our watch."

She sighed. "And I refuse to give up hope, on us or on him. I've had to wait a long time to be with him: I guess I'll just have to wait longer, but I'll do what it takes to get him back. The future is mysterious, but I don't intend on letting it lead me where it wants to."

She swirled her hand in the water, making a small whirlpool. "Do you miss her Sokka?"

"Suki, of course," Katara said. "I know it can't be easy, to be here on this strange ship and be without her. I know we saw her once, and then not much after that. The worst thing is that time just seems to blur most of the time. Doesn't it make you sad?"

"No one ever said missing someone means that you have to focus exclusively on that," Katara said. "I mean, I've missed Aang for a long time, you know that, and he and I were always being pulled apart for some reason. But I figured it might be a little worse for you know, knowing that she's podded on the ship now."

Because really, how could it not be? Knowing the person you love is just beyond reach?

But she hadn't come here to depress her brother-she honestly missed him. "So after fishing, what are you going to do now?"

Katara knew that look all right: she'd worn it enough times, just to convince others that she was fine with something even when she wasn't. She also knew enough not to pick at a subject that was clearly not her brother's favorite.

She looked over him, then look disapproving. "You're getting bigger Sokka, so you should probably get your clothes fitted again. But you're also looking thinner. You HAVE been eating all right, haven't you?"

Old habits? That's them, dying hard.

"Ok, first off, you're coming with me to the Outsider's hideout: I have some food I stashed, and its decent stuff, so take it with you!" She was not about to have her brother getting malnourished because of all of that slop they gave you, not so long as she still had leftovers!"

Of course, she'd have more had she gone to that latest planet, but there had been obvious issues with that.

"The clothes I can mend, but there actually IS a place you can go to get better clothes, just ask for Rein. She's this cute little device that mkaes clothes all the time, she'll be happy to help! Just don't let me catch you walking around in rags, or you'll be in trouble!"

He totally had no excuses this time!
