A Fated Proposal [Closed]

Their room here - an apartment they'd taken in the City - wasn't much. It certainly wasn't the home they'd made together on Mid-Childa, with its big luxurious bed and wide-open view of the skyline. But it was theirs, and theirs together, and that was enough for Nanoha. Their bed was small, but it was big enough for two people, and the sheets were warm, and there was plenty of room to hastily discard clothing when they were in the mood for that sort of thing, and sometimes Nanoha just liked to lie awake at night on her back, listening to Fate breathe next to her, and think.

And ever since they'd returned to the ship from their last mission to that planet... well, something had been lurking in the back of the mage's mind. This was the life she shared with Fate, and it seemed so natural to be like this with her, even on a giant living ship that traveled between realities. The more she thought about it, the more it only made sense...

"Mm, Fate-chan?" She said softly. "Are you asleep?"

"I don't know... probably not." Fate said with a sigh. Even though she wasn't expecting it to happen, admitting it still hurt. "But I still want the offer to be there. Even after all these years... I still think of her as my mother, so it would mean a lot if she was there."

"Fate-chan," her voice was soft as she stared up at the ceiling. "I know you still love her. I'm just worried that if she came, she might try to interrupt things, or try to hurt someone. Do you really want our big day to be ruined like that?"

"I don't. But..." Fate didn't think of that. She really should have thought of that possibility. Just because her mother hasn't caused trouble yet doesn't mean she won't in the future.

She sighed. "I guess that would be a pretty bad idea..."

Nanoha turned, sitting up a bit so that she could look into Fate's soft red eyes.

"If you want to invite her, Fate-chan... I won't stop you from wanting your mother to be there with us. Just... think about it first, okay? Maybe we'll come up with a plan so she can be there but... safely."

"... Okay." That's the best thing they could do, right? Either way, they had to be prepared. Fate highly doubted something would happen even if they didn't invite her, but... better to be alert, right?

Anyway, time for a chance of subject. Back to something lighter!

"So... who do you think we should ask to be in the wedding party?"

"Everyone from back home, of course," Nanoha smiled at Fate, glad for the change of topic, reaching up to curl blonde hair around her finger. "Vivio'd be an adorable flower girl, and I'm sure Hayate and the Wolkenritter would love to dress up for it."

"It's a shame Chrono isn't awake to be your best man," she teased.

"It is. I have a feeling he's going to be angry when he wakes up and finds out I got married." Fate said, laughing nervously. After all, no matter how many times Chrono got flustered over her calling him 'big brother', he still took his duties very seriously.

"But... I was going ask Signum to take that place. What do you think?"

"He might be angry, but I think he'll just be happy for you," Nanoha said softly, now leaning in to give her girlfriend - no, fiancee - a kiss. There wasn't any doubt in her mind that he was here asleep, after all.

"I think Signum would be a great choice. She'll probably be a bit embarrassed about it, though. You might have to break it to her gently."

"I should... but it might be more fun if I just said it." Fate said, laughing a little. "It's not every day that I can embarrass her, you know."

"No, that's true," Nanoha nuzzled Fate's cheek. "You should take advantage of it while you can."

"I think Hayate-chan will have fun with it anyways."
