A Fated Proposal [Closed]

Their room here - an apartment they'd taken in the City - wasn't much. It certainly wasn't the home they'd made together on Mid-Childa, with its big luxurious bed and wide-open view of the skyline. But it was theirs, and theirs together, and that was enough for Nanoha. Their bed was small, but it was big enough for two people, and the sheets were warm, and there was plenty of room to hastily discard clothing when they were in the mood for that sort of thing, and sometimes Nanoha just liked to lie awake at night on her back, listening to Fate breathe next to her, and think.

And ever since they'd returned to the ship from their last mission to that planet... well, something had been lurking in the back of the mage's mind. This was the life she shared with Fate, and it seemed so natural to be like this with her, even on a giant living ship that traveled between realities. The more she thought about it, the more it only made sense...

"Mm, Fate-chan?" She said softly. "Are you asleep?"

Nanoha wasn't the only one who was still thinking about their latest mission, even after a decent amount of time had passed. Thinking about the Ritual of Joining, the emotions she felt during the ceremony... it made her heart flutter in a way she never felt before, even in all the years she's been with her girlfriend.

She had been in the process of drifting off when Nanoha spoke up. Not really in any rush to fall asleep, Fate rolled over so she was facing Nanoha.

"Not yet. Why?"

Well. Fate knew Nanoha could be a bit blunt, but there were still some times where she was amazed at how direct her girlfriend could be. This time was definitely one of those times.

"W-Wh... Where did this come from?" Pause. "Okay, that was a stupid question. But... you really want to...?"

[identity profile] thunder-ace.livejournal.com 2011-03-08 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
There it was again. The thought that their lives now revolved this mission, this war... and with it came the idea that it could all end with one battle.

She didn't let that bother her right now, though. There were much more important things to think about.

"I... I'd like that... a lot." Why was it so hard to talk about this? They've been together for years now; even though they were still a little young, it made sense for them to take the next step.

"I feel the same way. The only reason I'm here right now is because you wanted to help me... I can't imagine not staying by your side for as long as possible."

Fate couldn't hold back her own tears. Half a lifetime ago, she never would have thought she'd be this close to Nanoha; she was lucky enough to have her as a friend. Even during their time in Section 6, when they were sharing a bed and caring for Vivio, it still seemed... different, somehow. Incomplete.

And now, here they were, Nanoha offering to share her life, her everything... it would be impossible for her to stay dry-eyed.

"Yes... of course I'll marry you, Nanoha."

Fate reached up, placing her hands on Nanoha's cheeks as they kissed. She made it last, only pulling back when her lungs began pleading for air. Her tears were falling even more frequently when she did, but she ignored them.

"I love you, Nanoha." She said softly. "I really can't tell you how much. It seems so hard to put it into words..."

"I don't think telling her will be much of a problem. On the other hand..." Fate shuddered a little. "Something tells me Hayate's going to be... a little bit excited when we tell her."

A little. Right. Fate has a feeling that's going to be a total understatement.

[identity profile] thunder-ace.livejournal.com 2011-03-08 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"... You don't think she'd really do that, do you?"

Not that Fate thought that was a bad thing, exactly... after all, her normal Enforcer uniform was a black suit, just... with a skirt instead of pants.

[identity profile] thunder-ace.livejournal.com 2011-03-08 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"... No. She really wouldn't." Fate said with a sigh. She loved Hayate dearly, she really did, but sometimes she could get just a tad crazy with her designing.

It didn't take long for Fate's face to heat up, though, when Nanoha complimented her. "Y-You really think so...?"

[identity profile] thunder-ace.livejournal.com 2011-03-09 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"O-Oh..." To be honest, Fate did kind of like wearing that tux, so it wasn't as embarrassing as it would have been if she was forced into it.

"Well, if you really want me to... I suppose I could wear one again."

Fate wrapped her arms around Nanoha's waist, tilting her head so she can press her cheek against her head. Nothing could get better than this, in Fate's opinion; lying here with her childhood friend-turned-girlfriend-turned-fiancee, completely content, planning out the most important stage in their relationship.

"We don't know when that is, though... not that I'm saying we have to rush, but for all we know, we could be stopping tomorrow." She said, laughing a little. "I kind of hope we do, though... I'm already excited."

[identity profile] thunder-ace.livejournal.com 2011-03-11 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe we should ask someone to help... If we want to have a ceremony, we're going to need more people than just us and Hayate." One of Fate's hands moved up, twirling a few strands of Nanoha's hair around her finger as she spoke.

"And will we be inviting the rest of the ship? Or will it be just our friends?"

[identity profile] thunder-ace.livejournal.com 2011-03-11 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, you're right!" Fate nodded. After a moment, though, her smile faded a little and she turned her gaze towards the ceiling. It was obvious that something was on her mind.

"Hey, Nanoha..." She sounded hesitant as she spoke, since this was a very, very delicate subject. "Would it be okay if I invited my mother?"

[identity profile] thunder-ace.livejournal.com 2011-03-11 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't know... probably not." Fate said with a sigh. Even though she wasn't expecting it to happen, admitting it still hurt. "But I still want the offer to be there. Even after all these years... I still think of her as my mother, so it would mean a lot if she was there."

[identity profile] thunder-ace.livejournal.com 2011-03-12 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't. But..." Fate didn't think of that. She really should have thought of that possibility. Just because her mother hasn't caused trouble yet doesn't mean she won't in the future.

She sighed. "I guess that would be a pretty bad idea..."

[identity profile] thunder-ace.livejournal.com 2011-03-12 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"... Okay." That's the best thing they could do, right? Either way, they had to be prepared. Fate highly doubted something would happen even if they didn't invite her, but... better to be alert, right?

Anyway, time for a chance of subject. Back to something lighter!

"So... who do you think we should ask to be in the wedding party?"

[identity profile] thunder-ace.livejournal.com 2011-03-14 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
"It is. I have a feeling he's going to be angry when he wakes up and finds out I got married." Fate said, laughing nervously. After all, no matter how many times Chrono got flustered over her calling him 'big brother', he still took his duties very seriously.

"But... I was going ask Signum to take that place. What do you think?"

[identity profile] thunder-ace.livejournal.com 2011-03-17 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
"I should... but it might be more fun if I just said it." Fate said, laughing a little. "It's not every day that I can embarrass her, you know."
