A Fated Proposal [Closed]
Their room here - an apartment they'd taken in the City - wasn't much. It certainly wasn't the home they'd made together on Mid-Childa, with its big luxurious bed and wide-open view of the skyline. But it was theirs, and theirs together, and that was enough for Nanoha. Their bed was small, but it was big enough for two people, and the sheets were warm, and there was plenty of room to hastily discard clothing when they were in the mood for that sort of thing, and sometimes Nanoha just liked to lie awake at night on her back, listening to Fate breathe next to her, and think.
And ever since they'd returned to the ship from their last mission to that planet... well, something had been lurking in the back of the mage's mind. This was the life she shared with Fate, and it seemed so natural to be like this with her, even on a giant living ship that traveled between realities. The more she thought about it, the more it only made sense...
"Mm, Fate-chan?" She said softly. "Are you asleep?"

This was the life she shared with Fate, and it seemed so natural to be like this with her, even on a giant living ship that traveled between realities. The more she thought about it, the more it only made sense...
"Mm, Fate-chan?" She said softly. "Are you asleep?"
no subject
She had been in the process of drifting off when Nanoha spoke up. Not really in any rush to fall asleep, Fate rolled over so she was facing Nanoha.
"Not yet. Why?"
no subject
"I've been... thinking a lot lately," she began, before trailing off. No, that wasn't how she wanted to say it. "When we were on the mission that we just had..." Nanoha trailed off again. Why was this so hard to say? She couldn't think of any way to really lead up to it.
So she didn't.
Nanoha turned, an arm coming up under the covers to drape over Fate's side. "Fate-chan, let's get married."
no subject
"W-Wh... Where did this come from?" Pause. "Okay, that was a stupid question. But... you really want to...?"
no subject
There was something shining in her eyes in the soft ambient lighting of their bedroom. "Fate-chan, I don't know what sort of life we'll have, fighting the Ohm like this."
"But I want it to be with you."
no subject
She didn't let that bother her right now, though. There were much more important things to think about.
"I... I'd like that... a lot." Why was it so hard to talk about this? They've been together for years now; even though they were still a little young, it made sense for them to take the next step.
"I feel the same way. The only reason I'm here right now is because you wanted to help me... I can't imagine not staying by your side for as long as possible."
no subject
"I want to be by your side as long as I live. I want to grow old with you, and have a family together. So... marry me?"
no subject
And now, here they were, Nanoha offering to share her life, her everything... it would be impossible for her to stay dry-eyed.
"Yes... of course I'll marry you, Nanoha."
no subject
So instead she just leaned in for a warm, loving kiss.
no subject
"I love you, Nanoha." She said softly. "I really can't tell you how much. It seems so hard to put it into words..."
no subject
Right now, she could stay like this, with Fate, forever. Now that she'd said it; now that Fate had said yes, nothing could have ever dampened her mood in this moment. "We're... we're going to have to tell Vivio."
no subject
A little. Right. Fate has a feeling that's going to be a total understatement.
no subject
A pause. "Or maybe a tuxedo, for you..."
no subject
Not that Fate thought that was a bad thing, exactly... after all, her normal Enforcer uniform was a black suit, just... with a skirt instead of pants.
no subject
"...Besides, you look really handsome in a suit."
no subject
It didn't take long for Fate's face to heat up, though, when Nanoha complimented her. "Y-You really think so...?"
no subject
no subject
"Well, if you really want me to... I suppose I could wear one again."
no subject
no subject
"We don't know when that is, though... not that I'm saying we have to rush, but for all we know, we could be stopping tomorrow." She said, laughing a little. "I kind of hope we do, though... I'm already excited."
no subject
"I'm excited too," she murmured. "I hope it's soon. We'll have to get dresses, and rings, and-- and everything."
no subject
"And will we be inviting the rest of the ship? Or will it be just our friends?"
no subject
no subject
"Hey, Nanoha..." She sounded hesitant as she spoke, since this was a very, very delicate subject. "Would it be okay if I invited my mother?"
no subject
After a very long moment, she replied softly, "Do you think she'd want to come?"
no subject
no subject
no subject
She sighed. "I guess that would be a pretty bad idea..."
no subject
"If you want to invite her, Fate-chan... I won't stop you from wanting your mother to be there with us. Just... think about it first, okay? Maybe we'll come up with a plan so she can be there but... safely."
no subject
Anyway, time for a chance of subject. Back to something lighter!
"So... who do you think we should ask to be in the wedding party?"
no subject
"It's a shame Chrono isn't awake to be your best man," she teased.
no subject
"But... I was going ask Signum to take that place. What do you think?"
no subject
"I think Signum would be a great choice. She'll probably be a bit embarrassed about it, though. You might have to break it to her gently."
no subject
no subject
"I think Hayate-chan will have fun with it anyways."
