The Final Test

Eventually, morning came. For those inside the city, it had been a quiet, pleasant night. For those outside...well. At least no one was hurt.

As the sun rose, the sky took on an amazingly beautiful violet hue. As the crew began to awaken, they'd receive a message from Stacy, stating that those intending to attend the meeting with the Moai Elders were to gather near the massive stone stairway that led to the top of the plateau the city of Orongo surrounded.

It was time for the real mission to begin.

The first few crew members arrived, just as the city's residents began their morning routine. The morning light shining on the colorful buildings of the city made it seem even more alive.

It seemed a shame that their time there was going to end soon.

Eventually, once the crew had gathered, a trio of younger Moai priests made their way down the massive stone stairways, apparently having come from the top of the plateau.

Once they reached the crew, the center priest bowed and addressed them.

"Greetings," he said. "We are here to escort you to the Temple of the Sacred Mount."

With entirely too much good cheer, the Overlord('s minion) elbowed to the front of the crowd with entirely no regard for the nearby people. Screw you all and your marriages! It's time to get the thing!

"All right, let's get this -- wait. Temple. There aren't traps or anything, are there? I'm not penitent for anybody and I spell words with J's in them with freaking J's, let's get that clear right now."

Cargn was the first one there. He'd been through all of this before, and was already waiting for the others to show up.

It had been a great night, and a good break. But there was still business to conduct. Nathan knew there was no question, he was going to the meeting. He gently woke up Angie before they left the huts, and made their way to the stone stairway.

...and some mischievous ~~robot chick and talking book~~ UNKNOWN PERSON OR PERSONS had stuck signs reading "If this hut's a-rockin', don't come a-knockin'" on all the consummation huts.

Billy was glad Ronnie had awakened him early. They'd had ample time to prepare, and now it was all on them to stay calm and negotiate. Thanks to the intervention of some great friends, he felt...surprisingly tranquil. Maybe it wouldn't be so terrible.

"There are always traps," Karis drawled. "It's like the rules with temples."

Nathan cleared his throat at Zetta's behavior, before stepping forward. Right, time to insert some diplomacy back into the proceedings.

"Good morning, and I apologize for some of our crew's brusque nature. We're ready to head up when you are."

"Brusque?" Zetta said. "You'll be sorry you didn't ask when you're picking poison needles out of your carotid!"

Should we really be so loud about our doubts? Billy wondered. He wished he could think of some subtle and brilliant way to say that, so he remained silent and pondering in the background. Let the actual leaders deal with that.

Please do not mind excited afro wunderkind on the side who looked so excited about everything. MISSION FINALLY.

Angie was good and had not tried to negotiate herself for another five minutes. Or, well, probably fifteen because there was no way they could have been done in five.

Besides, she was pretty interested in what they'd been brought here to get in the first place. And there'd be time for all that again later.

"Hey. Ixnay on the oisonpay artsday, capisce?" Angie stepped up beside Nathan, since the whole marriage thing was kind of central to all this. "Besides, that wasn't really a temple in The Last Crusade. And it was spelled with an I when the temple was created."

She'd watched that movie far too often. Obviously.

Anwei yawned against the back of her hand before blinking herself back to alertness. It must have been boring for Zouichi watching her sleep, but he would have received the same message that she had. He would be here.

"I assure you, there are no traps," the priest replied. "The Temple is quite safe."

He motioned towards the stairs.

"This way, please," he said, and the three priests began making their way up.

It would be a rather long walk up, but once they reached the top, they'd see a rather impressive looking temple standing before them.

Entering the building, they'd see numerous censers and candles burning along the walls, dimly lighting the cavernous rooms of the temple. In the center of the main room, there was a large, round, low table, surrounded by small mats for the crew to sit at.

The priests motioned for them to sit down around the table.

Luckily, Hoshi was used to waking up early. She got herself up, dressed, and then shook Phillip a little to wake him up.

She decided to wake herself up by doing a few stretches in the meantime just to get the blood flowing.

Zouichi strode up beside her, raising a hand in greeting. He'd opted to leave Anwei her privacy in the hut, spent some time walking around the premises, and eventually wandered off somewhere to idle before returning.

"Morning," he said. "Sleep well?"

The day before had been a whirlwind and Faiza had done her best to keep up. Sharing a bed had been...odd. But she hadn't been worried about anything, sharing a room with another woman. (Okay, Sofia was a bit young, maybe, but it was safest for them both.)

Still, when the morning came and the message with it? She was actually pretty relieved. At least the marriages would be over soon, right?

"Yes, thank you," she answered, putting one hand on his arm. "Are you looking forward to this?"

Billy entered the temple and took it all in, appropriately impressed. This was likely the room where they would make or break their chance to succeed in the mission. It was intense pressure.

He knelt on a mat, gesturing for Ronnie to sit beside him and holding a hand out.

Ronnae followed suit, looking around in awe at the temple. To her it was really pleasing as well. Most temples back home where immense and intimidating, this one however was soothing and calming.

She smiled and sat next to Billy placing her hand on his comfortingly as she waited patiently. She was fairly relaxed, trying her best not to show doubt or fear when in the presence of the priests.

"No traps?" What kind of a crappy temple guarding a sacred map didn't have traps?

"Oh, I get it, the ultimate trap is marriage! Hyaaa ha ha ha ha!" He was starting to like these dudes.

The minion plunked the book down on a mat, where it did its best to look important.

"I think it's more a form of mild trepidation," said Zouichi. Yeah, he wasn't forgetting about the "Consummation Hut" thing. "What about you?"

"Don't worry. This is the part where they kill us and eat our brains," Karis muttered.

Because that's what she would do.
