The Wanderers

The city of Orongo had many strange and interesting sights to offer to the visiting crew. Numerous shops and sources of entertainment awaited them as they made their way through, and many interesting people filled the city.

Perhaps the most interesting thing, though, appeared to be some sort of festival being held near the heart of the city. Numerous beings--all of the same race, which was neither Moai nor Rapa Nui--were about. They were a graceful and lithe insectoid species, with large, clear wings protruding from their backs, and each wore bright, colorful garb. They seemed to be even more fond of color than the Moai, as just about everything they had seemed to be beautifully and artfully colored.

Some of them manned caravan-like stalls, while others were in the streets playing vibrant, energetic music with strange instruments. Some were even up in the air, using their wings to perform beautiful aerial dances. The younger members of the groups seemed to be going out into other areas of the city, directing people towards the festivities.

They seemed to be generally well liked, especially by the Moai, but some among the visiting crowds seemed to be purposefully avoiding them, some muttering something about "those people." Regardless, they seemed unperturbed by anything, vibrantly enjoying themselves and gladly accepting everyone in the festivities.

Transmigration 9, meet the Rom.

She cocked her head up at him. "More difficult than you might think. Everyone here, they're just so - besotted with their partners. I'm really starting to wonder if there isn't something chemically enhanced about this body paint, or something." She gestured out at the crowd: laughing, dancing, walking hand in hand or cheek to cheek or whatever on whatever; sharing kisses and flower wreaths and bites of food. "Nobody wants to talk business. And besides, we can't leave the city until - later." After spending the night in the Consummation Huts.

"I am all about the information," she said a little ungrammatically. "I'm just so used to being part of a networked culture, where everything is recorded and uploaded and shared, where you can find anything out with ease. Right now, I feel like I'm wearing a bucket on my head."

Kang rolled his eyes, "Point. I lost count of how many times I've spotted people doing things that really shouldn't be done in public within two minutes of being in this city." He wasn't a fan of anything more than light PDA at all, between he and his mate or seeing anyone else engage in it.

"I understand that a lot of species and cultures thrive on physical contact. And I've never been one to turn down my shift on cuddle watch. But this seems to be pretty dramatic results from a fairly non-binding ritual: just some colored lights and song. If I had some proper survey personnel here," she crossed her own arms now, and looked ready to tap her toe on the ground, "I could gather some data on the phenomena."

"At least I haven't seen any fighting break out. Jealousy was checked at the door, apparently."
