Simple Things

OK, so things were at least shaping up pretty good. The Outsiders were making progress and so far, she had to admit that she was generally happy. Sure, there were a few lingering things on her mind (her brother, Mai, Marco) but overall she figured letting them deal with things without her involved. Nura and her and Reimi got to bond, she had help on the ship, and there were people looking out for her on the ship: she had nothing to complain about.

So she took this moment to unwind near the Outsider's pool, not IN the pool but beside it, legs crossed, taking in the air and doing breathing exercises for relaxation.

Ronnae hugged her knees and sighed into them a little. It wasn't as easy as flipping a switch."I ca... I can't... Every time I'm around a crowd... I. It feels like I'm back in trade school... Being watched, hearing things they thought I couldn't hear..." She paused for a moment looking down at the water , "Being dragged in-" She stopped and closed her eyes. She just shook her head. "It's not easy is all... Jus'... Jus' need some time I guess..."

God, what was wrong with people sometimes?! It was bad enough when they had done this to Alex, but to this sweet girl too, who was just trying to fit in? She remembered seeing her with the hooded jacket and the pigtails, and how when speaking she seemed to draw herself inward. The whole thing just infuriated her, imagining how people were to her.

"Well, WE are going to make you as comfortable as we can," Katara declared. "There's no reason not to talk with the people here, they're nice, mostly. And I promise you, you'll have people looking out for you too, if something unseemly happens."

She paused, and put a hand to the girl's shoulder. "I know it won't be easy, but I promise you, if you try, you won't be disappointed, and you'll always have people wishing you well."

Ronnae's eyes watered, being glad they where in a pool she could blame it on that right? It's just water that splashed on her face! "Th-thanks... I hope everything goes well here... After losing everything I don't know how I could handle all this, as much as I'm doing my best, and having been in so many hard wars... it just isn't the same when what you used to fight for was taken in the blink of an eye..."

Katara hugged Ronnae here: she knew that it might be the wrong thing to do, bu it just felt wrong to let Roonae feel like that without any kind of reaction.

"Nothing can take away the frustration of losing the world you love. I went through some wars too, and to find out all of it was gone in a moment...it was pretty rough. But there are people here, willing to help you get through this. It's been hard, for all of us."

Ronnae nodded, she returned the hug and smiled. "Thanks Katara." She looked around a bit before blushing slightly. "Guess I should take this time to completely enjoy the pool." She laughed lightly trying to move on from bad thoughts. She undid her wraps that kept her ponytails neat and placed them near the edge of the pool. Her reddish silken hair now reached her lower back. She dipped herself completely before coming back up. She smiled happily at the feeling of the water.

She nodded. "Yes, please do. Take the time that you need."

When she undid her ponytails and went under, Katara could definitely see what Billy would have found beautiful with her: she saw it earlier, but with the hair down, she couldn't help but admire the color.

When she came up, Katara could help but say something. "Whoever you like has no chance."

Ronnae tilted her head slightly looking curiously at Katara. "Hm? What do you mean whoever I like has no chance Katara?" She began to wring out her hair, letting it fall behind her while she enjoyed the pool.

Katara laughed. "I mean that if you put your mind to it, no guy will really resist you. Don't get me wring, I think I'd prefer it to be Billy: he could do worse than be with someone like you."

Ronnae blushed, a bit at a loss as to what to think of what Katara had just said. Deciding she'd probably think about it later, she stretched a bit. "Ah ummmm I don't really get it.. but " She suddenly blushed and looked away, "Is there anything to drink around here? I'm sort of thirsty." She laughed nervously.

"I'm sure you don't," Katara said, shaking her head. It was ironic really, considering Katara was only dimly aware she was attractive too. "But sure, I can get you a drink. I'll be right back, just wait here, ok?"

With that, Katara got up and left.

Ronnae called after her. "I'll be back in a sec I need to do something real quick as well!" Ronnie stood and went to the locker room.
