Some things require a drink. (Or two, or three or...)
After checking up on things, and hearing from Kaylee, Dean headed over to the Tavern. He snuck in to find a seat toward the back, though tricky to order drinks when you don't want to talk to the owner and head barkeep of the place.
He wanted plenty of drinks in him and available if Jayne did stop by to get some answers about what happened. He knew their universe don't have anything like this so it was more educating the civvies again.
That and he felt the urge to get seriously drunk.
Awesome birthday. Really. (Even if he was barely aware of it.)
(open but ping first please, thank you)

As it happened, Dean was one of those drunks, and one that had a lot on his mind. She preferred to relocate here, her hair mussed and her demeanor downright grim.
"So...what's up?"
no subject
"Not much." He then studied her a moment, "You have a run in with something too?"
no subject
She shook her head. "Hot cider!" She said, rolling her eyes.
"What about you?"
no subject
no subject
She widened her eyes. "So you've been possessed before?"
no subject
Dean shook his head, "Not me, but seen it way too many freaking times. Including people I know." He briefly shuts down for a moment, hating recent events.
He had another long drink before he spoke again, "Hope somebody helped shake the demon loose again."

She listened that part about someone he knew have it happen to them. "Someone you care about, huh." It wasn't a question but an observation. She wasn't that stupid.
She nodded. "That Mei_Xing and Daimon guy should be on that shit, right?"
no subject
He then sighed, "Not the first time there."
He snorted and shook his head, "Yeah right, Mei-Xing's solution idea sucked. Hedge magic my ass, the rituals work for a damn good reason."
no subject
She shook her head. "It's that kind of magic: who knows if any of it would have worked? It's all hocus pocus to me,and that means it works or it don't."
no subject
He then added, "It works when you know what the hell you're doing, and it takes a lot of practice. There's some simple steps anybody can do. Salt lines keeps a lot of crap out, iron works on things like ghosts. Other stuff? It depends."
no subject
She took another unsatisfying drink of the cider. "Does that translate in this world too? If it does, then that means somebody was just being reckless. Who is this Mei-Xing I keep hearing about?"
no subject
He grabbed another drink, and took a long swallow, "She's one of the magic users. An elf and something of a bad ass at times. I've worked with her from time to time. She's good."
A dark look then crossed his features, "Doesn't mean I wouldn't freaking deck her for bringing down this crap."
no subject
She nodded. "Heard of her. She was the one that told off Big Zero right? she seemed kinda funny, kinda a bitch. Sort of reminded me of the major, except I might like Mei-Xing."
She nodded. "I think several people owe her an ass kicking at this point."
no subject
"And yeah that's her, not bad at booze either. Unless you need to see."
no subject
She laughed. "Her booze makes you blind?! God, I'd hate to see what she'd do to someone she hates!"
no subject
"Was a pretty dumb kid."
He then pointed out to her, "Well you still got a few years before you can even do fake ids so don't have to worry about that."
no subject
She shook her head. "Hey, when you're a kid, your parent is supposed to be like that, right? I know mine was, and still is to me."
She laughed. "Yeah, I think I'd stick with my ciders anyway. Can't have too much barley clouding the brain."
no subject
"Yeah, part of me still thinks he is. But you get older, and you realize he's just human." Another shrug and another drink at that, but her last comment made him tempted to laugh and reach over to ruffle her hair a little like he do with Sam growing up.

Which was she didn't expect to see Big Daddy to come strolling through the ship at any time.
"Yeah, you do," Hit Girl, said, remembering the time that she thought that was when he was smoldering, dying, and she understood that the thing he cared about, more than even taking down Frank, was that she was OK. He was a father, not just her trainer and friend, and she honored that death by not losing it when he died and staying focused on the big battle.
Had he done that, it would have been interesting: the last thing Hit Girl expected was physical affection, from anyone.

It'd be something they'd have in common there. He was divided on it, he acted like he didn't need it, and usually didn't expect it either. But in some ways, people like that need it more than others.
Dean studied her a moment, and then did risk a brief reach out to touch her shoulder. Reassuring but short enough in case she'd react to it.
It'd be something he would do to somebody he didn't really know after all.
no subject
The shoulder touch took her by surprise: she almost made a motion to stop him, a reflex as most people trying to touch her were usually out to hit her. No one had done anything like that since dad.
"So what's your story?

The top of his head was wrapped in bandages letting on that apparently the wrench wound he'd mentioned was either really bad, or the doctors had just patched him up extra to make him shut up.
Either way he was both pissed in the sense of anger, and pissed in the sense of drunk. Great combination.

"Hey J-wad, got a mini bar back here." Yeah slight dig, but only because of the ranting on the omnicomm of course.
no subject
"Where is she?" He grumbled cutting to the throat of the matter.
no subject
He then remarked, "She's safe with a friend. Listen, you gotta understand there's some seriously weird shit out there in some worlds. And it's something I dealt with most of my life. But way I heard it, you guys never had to deal with possessions, right?"
no subject
no subject
"Yeah I know. And there wasn't a damn thing she could have done on her own to stop it either." For things like that, the fault lay with him. "That sort of crap was supposed to be left behind. Shit like demons I mean."

"Reaver's were the closest things we had to monsters in our verse. They were men driven crazy by chemicals the alliance pumped into their planets atmosphere." He took another longs swig, his gravely voice low and dangerous sounding. "They kill and eat and rape on folks and cut on themselves, they'll drive ya crazy if you're lucky. The crew Kaylee an' I were with got closer to reavers and lived then most anyone else I ever heard of." He met Dean's eyes for a moment, a primal sort of fire burning in them as he remembered the last time he'd fought them. Back to the wall, kill or be killed alongside most the crew. "Little Kaylee won't remember it but she killed her share of em too when push came to shove."
no subject
He then replied, "They sound like Croats. Croatan, it's this demonic virus that changes a person into a mindless monster that'll kill anything in sight. They bite you, you're fucked. Had a few run ins back home with them." Especially in that one bleak future.
no subject
But something else was nagging at his mind and maybe Dean would be the guy to ask.
"Listen," He started pointing a drunken finger jab vaguely in Dean's direction to make his point more clear, "What's the deal with how, I can remember stuff that's happened to me. I got the scars to prove it...but Kaylee and Wash can't?"

"'sbetter this way then." He decided, "They don't need to know what they're missing." He finished off his mug setting it aside.
no subject
"Considering what's in the future for some of us? Yeah they really don't. Especially when you know it's all gone to shit."
