It's that time again...

There are few things in the 'verse Kaylee can't stand. One of them, obviously, is that wonderful little group made up of people like Early and Niska. Another is insults to her ship. Possibly the biggest thing on the list, though, is seeing sad and lonely people, mostly because she knows there isn't much she can do to help outside of offering a friendly smile and shoulder to lean on.

Or, in this case, offering free hugs.

Once again, Kaylee has settled herself down at one of the tables in the Mess Hall with her 'Free Hugs!' sign. Even if hugs aren't wanted, the mechanic is also perfectly willing to lend an ear for a nice chat or just some company for a little while. Anything to boost morale.

That is the sound of Lister getting hit in the face by hair launched his way by a surprise!hug.

Doesn't stop him hugging back though, hands decorously above waist level.

...that was supposed to be "kidding," not "getting." Oh what is concentration.

Kaylee is clearly pleased with the hug, especially seeing as he's one of few people who haven't been super-tentative in their hug giving.

"I think I'm in heaven," Lister replies cheesily.

Of course he does.

"Heaven, huh?" Kaylee laughs, giving him another small squeeze before letting go. "Think that's the best compliment I've gotten today."

"Is everyone else hugging you with their eyes closed?" Lister asks, and yes, that might just be a hand sliding downwards to attempt a bottom-pinch. Only if Kaylee doesn't catch on though.

"Could be they are, but as long as they're enjoyin' the hug I can't hardly direct 'em on how they're huggin'." Unless they're grope hugging. Kaylee catches on quick, and places a hand on his wrist to stop the progression of that slide. It's not that she's offended or put-off by it, she just...doesn't really want the poor guy hunted down by Dean later.

Yes, being hunted down by anyone isn't really Lister's idea of a good time. But he doesn't yet realise this, only that Kaylee has caught on. The hand moves back up to a more decorous position, before Lister releases the hug.

"So, is this hugging a regular thing then, or only when you feel like it?"

Because if she has a schedule, he'll be there.

Honest to goodness, Lister, if Kaylee didn't have somebody you'd be a-okay to grope. Seeing as she does, though, plain old hugs will have to do.

"Done it a couple times now. Tend to aim for just after podpop or the harder missions, when people're in need of a good hug."
