On the 9th day of Christmas ... [For Nanoha cast, but open, really]

Hayate, Vivio and Zwei had a, shall we say, lackluster Christmas with all their friends and family gone. And today, after New Year's Day was over with, Hayate had one thing set in mind as she called all her friends and family to get together:

You owed her (and Vivio especially) one Christmas.

So here she was on the WITCH Bus with some past due Christmas cakes a little fake tree that was as of yet undecorated but next to a box of ornaments.

Party. Now. Your (former) boss demands it. She also demands you were the santa girl outfits. No, seriously, she's handing them to you as you enter the door. "Zwei and I were hoping you get here sooner, but whatever, we had these prepared for ya."

There's a curtain to change behind. Hayate is pointing to it.

((Yes, there's one for you too Signum. Hayate and Zwei may have pulled an all nighter. Arf, you're a reindeer. The children have elf costumes.))

There's a pause in the sound of fabric whispering and falling to the floor (or being pulled on). "...it was a really strange mission," she admitted. "We all thought we were residents of some town in America on Earth. Fate-chan and I were high school students again."

"Um, back up a bit. How'd that happen?"

"In the end? It was some sort of god-like being - or two of them - messing around with us."

"Did you shoot'em good for me?" Hayate punches her fist. Those bastards kind of sort of stole her Christmas.

"It would have gotten everyone else hurt," she frowned. "But I really did think about it, especially for what they did to Fate-chan..."

"Well, if it wouldn'ta been for the better... ddi you punish'em at all?" She seemed eager, still. If they got away with doing... whatever it was they did... it would just get Hayate's goat.

Another sigh. "I couldn't. By the time everyone was safe... we were already back here." From the expression on the mage's face, she was no more happy with it than Hayate was.

"If we meet them again I won't let it come to this though."

"Well, ya kept yer priorities straight. Ya came back." Even if you were late!

"I knew it was just a matter o' time."

That drew a smile from her, unseen though it was behind the curtain. "Of course we did. We wouldn't leave you all behind."

A pause. "Hayate-chan, are you sure it's not too small?"

"Not unless your sizes changed in the last couple of months~"

"There's no way they've done that..." and yet, when she stepped out from behind the curtain, she was tugging the hem of the skirt down to try and cover more. "Is this how it's supposed to look?"

"Oh come on it's not that short. You've had shorter."

"And hold that pose." Snapping photos~

"That's not the poin-- hey!" It was a token protest at the pictures, though. It wasn't like she minded THAT much.

"C'mon, yer having fun, aren't you?" Of course you were. Hayate knew you all too well by now.

"...I'll put up with it because it's Christmas," Nanoha finally allowed. Or because it was Hayate, rather.

"Aww, 'm not abusing my position, 'm I?"

And at that she smiled genuinely. "No more than usual," came the gently teasing reply. "Merry Christmas, Hayate-chan."

"Awh, am I right about you havin' fun, aren't I?"

Handing you Christmas cookies now~ "An' merry Christmas~"

"I invoke my right to avoid self-recrimination," she chuckled as she took the cookies. "Oh, it's the kind I like! Did you bake them yourself?"

"Yep. I gotta lotta time now; should really step up and get to workin' more with the department, t' be honest."

"To be honest, there isn't much work to be done these days," Nanoha admitted with a sigh. "Reinforce has been doing most of the busywork even if I ask her to let me help."

"We should do some research!"

The mage brightened. "That could be fun!"

"Mmmm but whaaat would make a good research project?"

Her mind considered some truly frivolous things first, mostly as a fleeting fantasy.
