Prom explanation [Semi closed to Hiccup and Miku]

[OOC: This is for Hiccup and Miku but if your character needs to have a demonstration of what prom is like rather than having it be explained they can show up. Just try to give me a poke beforehand to let me know.]

Sofia had readied the Sensorium. She had Stacy bring up a dance hall, complete with balloon decorations, refreshments, and a band. There were all ready people on the dance floor, dressed for prom. Now she just waited outside so she could wave Hiccup and Miku over.

She was all ready swaying to the music, even though she wasn't dressed for it. It was hard to resist, at least for someone like her. Any excuse to dance was welcome.

"Pues, this is only an exam-" Ohhhh. "No, no. This is a different party than that. No one is supposed to get openly drunk at prom, although people still do. This is-" She paused, trying to think of how to explain this to the viking. "Everyone is supposed to have fun without embarrassing themselves or others." Although people still do...

"But how's it fun if someone isn't getting embarrassed?"

Then again, he was the one people loved to embarrass at parties, but still. He's not seeing the fun here.

"So with this prom thing, there's no drinking, people have to wear uncomfortable clothes, and everyone is supposed to be well-behaved instead of acting crazy?"

Trying hard not to facepalm, Sofia thought this over. How could she make it sound enticing...

"During prom, yes. The uncomfortable clothes are supposed to make you look really good to your girlfriend. So that after prom..." She smirked instead of finishing her sentence.

Confusion.

"So that after prom, she tells me never to dress like that again?"

He didn't get it.

"No, so you can enjoy taking the clothes off." A brief pause. "If you want to that is. You can also just enjoy how really, really good she looks in a dress."

"Why would we enjoy--and I don't find this frilly stuff that good-looking on girls, to be honest. Forget dresses when there's, like...leathers and--"

Wait a second.

"Wait wait, is that all some protracted thing for teenagers to...you know? Afterward?"

"Well, for some people." Sofia couldn't stop the mischievous gleam in her eyes. "But for other people it's just an excuse to have fun. I know I love this." She said, gesturing to the crowd.

There was a subtle raise of eyebrows at the crowd.

"Well, I guess it looks, very...nice."

Read: formal and boring, but he was too polite to say so.

He wasn't sure if he was going to this one, since he didn't relish the idea of wearing the monkeysuits the guys were wearing, and Sofia seemed nice so he didn't want to crash the party again if it'd genuinely upset her.

If he went, the punch was getting spiked, though.

"But you don't like it?" Sofia frowned. She had wanted everyone to be able to enjoy themselves... "Maybe if we have an after party you could have fun there."

"There's nothing wrong with it. Really, it looks fine," he said, trying to be reassuring. "But Viking, you know, we don't really do formal. Well, we do formal, but it's not like this. It's...we wear the nice furs, and then everyone gets drunk anyway. And if, you know, any teens want to engage in a little...hmm-hmm afterward, they sneak off to the hayfields and everyone pretends not to notice when they come back with hay in their hair. All this...thisness is a little weird. Uh, Different. I meant...different. I'm not saying your traditions are weird, just...weird. To me. Weird in the context of not doing stuff like that."

You modern teens and your wacky traditions, formal dresswear, and not being thrown into giant cages to fight pissed-off dragons.

Sofia sighed. "I'll try and throw an after prom party. Those are usually more... wild."

Maybe she couldn't please everyone but she'd be damned if she didn't try.

"No no, you don't have to do that. Really. Hey, maybe I'll grab the girlfriend and we'll try this...thing, anyway. Learning about the traditions of other people is a good thing, right?"

Even if they're boring traditions. At least there seemed to be dancing?
