The Queen's Legacy (Phase Two)

[PLOT POST HERE. Read it!]

As quickly as it had begun, the Tyrant's rampage down in the City was over. He was last seen disappearing into the alleys around Religion Row, where any pursuers were thrown off in the maze of temples and shrines. It was probably better they leave him alone in any case... seeing what had happened to those who didn't.

It had been a few hours. The City was once again quiet, dotted by small areas of destruction and trails of blood where the Tyrant had brawled with crew members. The injured had been gathered and shipped to the Outsider's hotel until they could be moved to medical proper. And though the situation was not over, it was safe enough to go down, survey the damage and start cleaning up.

...Maybe.

A few blocks from the hotel, something was quietly growing in the darkness of a rubble pile.

"Shhh shh shh easy easy!" Beastboy urged trying to keep calm. "Everyone's fine and you're not going to be helping anyone like you are right now!"

"K-Katara... I c-can only k-keep this up f-for an h-hour... at most. A-after that you c-can go. 'Till then... Y-you're staying." His heart was beating harder, and his stomach was revolting, which was not helping him keep control over his shadow. It was only making things worse. He swallowed hard.

He had to think he could do this. He couldn't let his fears break him. If he let himself think that he would fail, then he would lose control.

Katara listened to the both of them...and knew that if she resisted, if she blindly got up and forced herself to fight in this condition, it would damage more than help. Alex and Beastboy were Outsiders as much as she was, and she considered herself equal to them: what kind of co-leader would forsake the advice of a co-leader and a member?

"All right," she said, lying back. She stilled her private emotions to jump and fight. "Please...tell me how Billy and Renne are, and how the other Outsiders are doing. I need to know they're ok."

"They came in a little bit after you did." Beastboy smiled reassuringly, "They'll be alright. You guys were pretty lucky all things considered. It's starting to look like a war down there."

Alex began focusing on his breathing in the way that Zuko had been teaching him. It was helping him concentrate on keeping the field up, and helping to keep his panic from rolling into a full panic attack.

"I... I s-suppose if there's no one else... I c-can help them too, b-but I'd n-need ta rest..." And quiet. Quiet would help now, but he couldn't bring himself to tell them to shut up, even in a nicer way.

Katara was starting to feel antsy, but at least she was better now: she was focused, after all, on the task at hand, which was getting better and making sure Billy and Renne were all right.

That, and well, she didn't take too kindly to losing a fight.

"What's the status on Steve then? Is he still wrecking things?"

"Yeah pretty much." Beastboy pulled the curtains on the window to peer out into the city, "The more people we get hanging out here the worse the news sounds." He put a hand to the cold glass of the window as if he could see Steve out there now, "Dude's totally ripping through our heroes like tissues."

There goes his stomach again. He puts his hand up to his mouth and then leans forward to rest his elbow on his knee. What if whoever-it-was managed to get into the hotel? "I-is... he c-close?"

At this point Katara rose, feeling much better than she had, which was good: it meant she could heal herself now, if needed.

But she also had some other work to do.

"ADEAT!" She called, and her normal clothing was replaced with a long white cloak with a hood and blue trim. She hadn't planned the outfit, but it was just as well: this needed to happen.

She turned to Alex, smiling. "Thank you."

Beastboy had been about to comfort Alex with false promises of protection and strength when Katara suddenly...inexplicably changed clothes. "Whoa...dude that's a new trick."

[identity profile] hack-rat.livejournal.com 2010-11-05 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Alex's eyes snapped open as he felt his shield shatter. He realized instantly that the chance of him losing control was gone and he sighed in relief.

"K-Katara... Are you s-sure you're- Woah." He finally realized the clothing change Katara went through. "Wh-when did you learn ta do that?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-11-05 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
Katara grinned. "Call it a gift from Negi Springfield. Point is, I'm okay now, aside from that scratch. And now...people are going to need help here, aren't they?"

She looked at the two. "Do you know how many else are hurt?"

[identity profile] changelingdude.livejournal.com 2010-11-05 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Beastboy shook his head, "I lost count, I've just been trying to let everyone know where our medic supplies were." He made a bridge with his pointer fingers, "Sorry."

Alex bit at his lip, staring at the floor. "W-well, i-if you're okay... th-then I think... M-maybe... I sh-should g-get going."

He used the the top of his shoe to scratch the back of his leg.

Medbays were anything but a place of comfort for him.
