Crossroads Between [Open]

To say that Sasami was conflicted at the moment would be an understatement.

By Sasami's own nature, she was a helper - she always tried to help out everywhere she went, no matter what. From cleaning house to saving time itself, she was there, giving a helping hand. Thus, when she was woken to face the Ohm, she found it her calling to do what she could to help.

Instead, she was told to stay back, that, because she was a child, she shouldn't meddle in the affairs of adults and just be a kid.

So, she tried being a kid. Tried being the keyword here; the second she opted to do that, Hit Girl appeared and more or less told her that she should be out there fighting with the rest.

And thus, her conflict. To turn her back on those who could use her help would be turning her back on who she is and what she's done, yet to turn her back on what's left of her childhood would mean losing out on what was left of it.

Hiding in the Media Library, watching a random anime (which oddly featured a version of her in an outfit too skimpy for a kid), she let out a sigh.

"...I wish I could be like you." Sasami mused, watching the show. "You knew what to do with your life. You wanted to help others. And yet, I can't do that here. Now without making someone angry or protective." She let out a sigh as she sat back and continued watching

"Do you always talk to yourself?" Sherry asked as she stuck her head out of her own media pod. She had decided to watch something fairly mindless to help her do her homework, and though she usually didn't like having noise, it was better than Boon jumping all over her and trying to eat her omnicom.

And in walked the devil, or at least, the equivalent of such, dripping a little blood on the floor. Hit Girl was beginning to see there might be some merit in getting injuries checked on: certainly fighting a dragon warranted a little bit of assistance. She figured at this point that she really should watch what she did when it came to her body.

"Oi, a little help?" She called, and saw Sasami. "Hey, princess. Know how to bandage a wound?"

"Even if you think you're alone, you shouldn't talk to yourself. That just makes people think you're crazy, you know." Sherry raised her eyebrows at the other little girl and sighed. "Don't you think we have enough crazy people on the ship already?"

It was like they were giving her reasons to dislike the rest of the crew right off the bat now.

"Hey, hey, calm down," Hit Girl said, bothered by the noise. "I fought a dragon in the sensoriums, okay? I told the Overlord I wanted the hardcore and I got it. No need to feel sorry for my dumb ass: the water girl saved me from getting a royal ass kicking. Won though: that was good."

"So...uh, do you have any kind of bandaging? I'm kinda hurting now."

It took everything in Sherry to not want to roll her eyes at the other girl's dramatics. Instead, she hit the enter key a few times and frowned at the screen of her media pod.

"I'm here right now, aren't I? You can talk to me." She turned back to her omnicom and started typing quickly.

"I don't want a doctor," Hit girl interrupted. "They ask too many damn questions and might want me to take the mask off. Can't do any of that, okay? rather you just try to get it taken care of. You look like the type that might know how, that's all."

She appreciated the using of her own clothes, but wasn't good at showing such gratitude. It was...weird.

"Hey, I meant to ask, princess," she said. "What's your problem with me anyway? You acted like I was the plague when we first met."

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2010-10-27 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Not an option," Hit girl replied, grunting a little at the pain. "If people don't like Hit girl, I'd rather it stay that way. She and who I am are different people, and it has to stay that way, even if weird shit happens here all the time."

She shrugged. "New Yorker, comes with the territory. You have to be hard, you can't trust anyone and you have to expect a backstabbing even in a place where it seems like everyone else is just as badly off. But hey...what are you so bothered about?"

"Just because I'm not looking at you doesn't mean I'm not listening," Sherry replied. "You're worried because you don't know what to do because you're our age? Well, it happens. It isn't a big deal, you just find a way to make yourself useful." She paused in her typing and looked at Sasami. "And if "being useful" means "staying out of the way", then you do that. That's what I do."

She started typing again. "I'm about as normal as you can get, and I know that I don't have anything that makes me stand out one way or another, so I take the classes my mother gives, and the classes the other adults give, and I learn. Maybe when I'm a little older, I'll be more useful. Because none of the adults are going to live forever, and one day, we'll have to step up anyway. So why are you rushing towards something that will happen when it happens?"

"My parents regularly try to kill themselves on this ship, fighting one stupid thing or another. I'm not "sitting back", I'm working to make sure they don't have to worry about me in the event they die." It was said so coolly and robotically, that Sherry wondered exactly how much her other parents had messed her up. Well, that was in the past.

"If you're not normal, then what do you do? What can you do? You're supposed to be the Child Liaison to Mr. Petrelli, aren't you? If you're and alien and a princess or a vacuum, I don't really care. If you can help, show Mr. Petrelli. Don't sit here and whine to a screen about feeling useless or childish. It doesn't do anything but make you sound crazy and depressed."

"I don't feel comfortable doing that yet," Hit girl admitted. "They want that little girl behind the mask, so they can make her some victim, someone they can gather up. This wound, all of this...its me, you know? I want them to see what I am. No little girl stuff, no safeguard."

She listened. "They want you to be princess. It's easier to have a kid to take care of than one that is going to be fighting and wanting a voice. Come on. I know that too. But be careful: they can stop you there too."

She paused. "What do you really think, princess?"

"I've heard that term before, and I disagree with it." She gave Sasami a Look that clearly read, Get your paws away from my homework or I will kick you.

It looked a lot like this: :|

She closed the device and held it away from Sasami. "Don't even think about it."

She knew that look. That was the look her mother gave her father before dragging him away from his desk. One her mother, she liked that look. On Sasami, it irritated her.

Why was that?

Sherry put her other hand up to keep Sasami away and grumbled, "I need to finish my work, shoo! Go!"

Sherry held her omnicom to her chest and ducked under Sasami's arms. "You're "It", no tagbacks," she announced and took off down the hall and out of the Media Library. She was quick on her feet; all that time running with Kelly was paying off.
