And Romeo Said to Juliet... [Open]
Hydroponics is better than a sensorium-generated field of flowers. It has real grass, real plants, and though there is no artificial sun, it's much more comfortable than the sensoriums.
This place won't disappear as soon as she steps out of the room, for instance.
She sheds her flip-flops at the base of a tree and sets herself down against it, crossing her legs tailor-style, setting her book, Romeo & Juliet, aside. She know the play by heart, but still, she enjoys reading it.
Leaning back into the tree, she shifts her legs, stretching them out, then picking her book back up, and turning to the page she'd left off on. Romeo and Juliet had just confessed their love in the balcony scene, and were now planning their secret wedding...or at least, something like that. Laurie's too wrapped up in Romeo and Juliet's love to really pay attention to the plot.

"I hope I'm not bothering you."

She waves her hand with a nervous smile. "No, it's OK! You're not bothering me at all."

Insane geniuses, however, be they scientist or thaumaturgist, couldn't help but rant out loud about the glory of their work. Brilliance required that the scenery be chewed.
"Perfect!" the wizard suddenly exclaimed out loud. "Absolutely an adequate substitute for the alchemical reagents necessary in I don't know how many scrolls, if properly treated to extract the inherent substances necessary to --" He went on like this for a while, though it became rapidly esoteric and rambling as he began gingerly removing leaves from the tree.

He swallowed, caught his breath after a moment, and then resumed, with more poise. "Terribly, terribly sorry! I didn't see you down there, I hadn't meant to disturb you at all. I'm simply trying to find substitutes for the alchemical and material components that were available on my world, but not here."
no subject
"I'm Laurie. I've read about alchemy. Are you going to use the materials for it?" She's a little curious now that she's not anxious.

"And yes, I am a student both of alchemy and wizardry, both of which often require certain rare or unusual materials. I'm conducting a study of the available resources on the ship, and any potential for substitutions."

She ponders in wonder at the possibilities for wizardry and alchemy aboard Stacy. There are certainly various materials aboard the ship in several departments that would work great. She turns her eyes back to Aibghalien. "Have you made a list?"

"I've only just begun, to be honest. I only recently furnished my laboratory properly, so I've only been able to do proper analysis and experimentation for the briefest time. But I'll be quite happy to share whatever I can come across... though I'm not entirely certain how compatible my wizardry is with other people's magic here." He quirked an amused smile. "I seem to be a rarity... but the alchemical permutations should be accessible by anyone, that's universal."
