And Romeo Said to Juliet... [Open]

Hydroponics is better than a sensorium-generated field of flowers. It has real grass, real plants, and though there is no artificial sun, it's much more comfortable than the sensoriums.

This place won't disappear as soon as she steps out of the room, for instance.

She sheds her flip-flops at the base of a tree and sets herself down against it, crossing her legs tailor-style, setting her book, Romeo & Juliet, aside. She know the play by heart, but still, she enjoys reading it.

Leaning back into the tree, she shifts her legs, stretching them out, then picking her book back up, and turning to the page she'd left off on. Romeo and Juliet had just confessed their love in the balcony scene, and were now planning their secret wedding...or at least, something like that. Laurie's too wrapped up in Romeo and Juliet's love to really pay attention to the plot.

It was perfectly possible to hear somebody approaching-- the rustling of the grass or perhaps stepping on a leaf. But in the case of a spiritual projection (unless one was able to sense something like that) there was no real sign of approach. So when Dhianeila spoke, she was already close enough to see the book in Laurie's hands.

"That's a good one."

"It's not a bad place to read, either," she added, looking around the peaceful, quiet atmosphere of Hydroponics.

"I hope I'm not bothering you."

"I wouldn't want to disturb your reading if you were getting into it," she noted.

"That's pretty impressive," she said with a small laugh. "You hardly need the book, in that case!"

She brought a hand up, resting her cheek lightly against it as she thought. "Hmm. Well, I'm quite fond of A Midsummer Night's Dream."

In the depths of magical considerations and theory, Aibghalien had an extreme tendency to shut out the world around him save for the pieces he was interacting with. Thus it was that, apparently entirely unaware of anything else in the world, a blue-robed figure abruptly zipped overhead at a good clip -- flying, to be explicit. Then said figure came to a sudden halt just above, as the wizard began to examine the leaves on the tree with intense scrutiny.

Elves, after all, could be very quiet.

Insane geniuses, however, be they scientist or thaumaturgist, couldn't help but rant out loud about the glory of their work. Brilliance required that the scenery be chewed.

"Perfect!" the wizard suddenly exclaimed out loud. "Absolutely an adequate substitute for the alchemical reagents necessary in I don't know how many scrolls, if properly treated to extract the inherent substances necessary to --" He went on like this for a while, though it became rapidly esoteric and rambling as he began gingerly removing leaves from the tree.

That question startled him in turn! The elf let out a yelp and did something of a three-quarters turn across two axes, looking frantically for the source. When he finally saw Laurie down below him, he let out a gasp of inheld breath, one hand clutched to his chest. "You -- scared--"

He swallowed, caught his breath after a moment, and then resumed, with more poise. "Terribly, terribly sorry! I didn't see you down there, I hadn't meant to disturb you at all. I'm simply trying to find substitutes for the alchemical and material components that were available on my world, but not here."

"Hello, Laurie." The elf smiled, proving he could be quite charming when he wanted to, as he descended to a light landing on the ground. Once properly grounded, he delivered a precise bow. "Aibghalien, at your service. It's a pleasure to meet you.

"And yes, I am a student both of alchemy and wizardry, both of which often require certain rare or unusual materials. I'm conducting a study of the available resources on the ship, and any potential for substitutions."

She needn't worry; he's been flying for years, and has far too much experienced in maneuvering to do anything so clumsy.

"I've only just begun, to be honest. I only recently furnished my laboratory properly, so I've only been able to do proper analysis and experimentation for the briefest time. But I'll be quite happy to share whatever I can come across... though I'm not entirely certain how compatible my wizardry is with other people's magic here." He quirked an amused smile. "I seem to be a rarity... but the alchemical permutations should be accessible by anyone, that's universal."

"My lady, I would love any assistance you cared to offer!" The elf bowed slightly in gratitude. "Do you know anything of wizardry or alchemy? I can make use of you either way," he said with a grin.
