What made these two think they could carry a table? [open!]

Now that the City was once again open for exploration Alex and Tavros agreed to  make thier way down to fetch from the city a table on which they could play card games and store video games.

Unfortunately, the desk-sized table was too big to fit into Tavros's captchalogue. Even more unfortunately, neither of the pair were particularly physically skilled. As a result, they were moving very slowly down the city streets, trying to awkwardly balance the long table between them, and failing miserably... repeatedly, even with the help of Alex's shadow tendrils. He just wasn't able to concentrate on enough of them to really make them very useful.

"Tavros, g-g-grab that l-le- argh!" He show one of his tendrils out to catch the side that was slipping, only to have another one of them dissipate. He stops, so that the pair could both rest and bask in their failure.

((Let's keep it to one thread please. Feel free to hop in whenever!))

And the two legs on Tavros' end of the table weren't balancing too well on his footrests, either. He fumbles, trying to rescue the listing table. It's a close call, not the first they've had today. As they stop to rest again, he laughs and folds his arms on the table.

"We must, uh, look like idiots with this thing." Sometimes you can't help but laugh. They were supposed to be part of the big adventurous Outsiders proving their worth to the adults, and here they were barely able to move some furniture.

"More than two, uh, I guess. We won't be, um, busting any stereotypes today."

He takes advantage of the break to look around curiously. Human architecture was similar to what he was used to, but the materials they chose were so... dead. All kinds of stone and cement.

"Oh, uh... I give up. How many?"

Tavros rolls forward slowly, trying to match Alex' pace. At least he's finally got the balancing act down.
badassfreakingoverlord: (crap I'm a book)

"The hell is this?"

Tavros: It's a large talking book being carried by a vapidly cheerful green-haired girl who just wandered up.

Alex: Oh god, it's Zetta.

Tavros was still laughing a little at the awful joke when a badass freakin' overlord decides to grace them with his presence. His laughter's cut short as Alex falls, but the guy seems to be okay, so he glances uncertainly at the book and girl.

"Uhh... hi. This, um, wasn't your table, was it?"

He's addressing the girl. Because seriously, even if it has a face, the thing she's carrying is clearly a book.

Taking a walk to acquaint himself with the city, Shiki stumbles across the bizarre scene before him. While the entire scene seemed really odd, nothing really surprised Shiki anymore. Besides, none of them seemed like genuine threats (including the self-proclaimed "Most Badass Freakin' Overlord").

Shiki asks "Would you like some help with that?" as he offers his hand to the blond-haired kid on the pavement.

Zetta: Status screen crashes upon trying to look at Shiki's stats
badassfreakingoverlord: (all right)

Fixin' this here....

"No, that's not my table," the book said. Yes, it is very definitely the book talking. "You guys are just sucking at moving it."

Zetta, paragon of diplomacy and tact.

He's going to be irritated when he checks Shiki's status screen. He just hasn't quite yet.

[identity profile] alterniantaurus.livejournal.com 2010-10-13 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Tavros glances at Alex, then Zetta. There's the stutter again, worse than ever, and he can feel his own anxiety rising as he tries to figure out what sort of threat the book poses. Is it some sort of spellbook, maybe? Or something more powerful locked in that form? Or maybe it's a mouthpiece for the girl.

Maybe asking isn't the wisest thing he could do.

"Yeah..." he finally ventures, "I guess we, uh, kind of suck at this."

But, he reassures himself, they're better at it than a book would be.

"No problem. I would be glad to be of some help."

Shiki prepares to grab one of the legs on Alex's side.

"Nice to meet you. My name is Tohno Shiki."
badassfreakingoverlord: (looking at you)

"Okay, you three, I'll -- OW!"

The Overlord squinched one eye shut, eyed the new guy, then looked again. The hell is that? Looked like someone had let Alex's rat tap-dance on a character map!

Zetta considered this a moment, then decided he was the badass freakin' Overlord, so it didn't matter. "I'll direct. Alex! Get on the one side in the front! Percent-ampersand-half-semicolon-question-mark, other side in the front. Guy in the chair! You get behind, lift it, then let their walking roll you!"

[identity profile] shiratokai.livejournal.com 2010-10-13 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"My name is Shiki, not Percent-amper-whatever."

Taking his place at the front, Shiki once again turns to the blond teen.

"So what is your name?"

Although Shiki has met quite a few creatures which would never be mistaken for human, he was still more comfortable interacting with those who could.

"Shiki? Not... Eri?" Zetta said, squinting in careful appraisal as if his question were a dramatic reveal rather than a total non-sequiter. "Nah," he said after a moment. "I guess you're alive.

"Lift more better!" he snapped at them all.

someone fill me in on this status stuff I never played the game :c

Tavros follows orders, which fortunately involved doing almost exactly what he was doing before Zetta showed up and started bossing them around bravely took charge of the situation.

At Alex's words, he frowns a little. He never introduced himself, and neither did Shiki until just now, so it's not like he expected Zetta to know their names. Maybe it's different on Talking Book Planet, but he decides to be polite.

"Hi, Shiki and Zetta. Uh, I'm Tavros."
badassfreakingoverlord: (still badass as a book)

Zetta can see status screens like a player would see. Not much of a fourth wall.

[personal profile] badassfreakingoverlord 2010-10-13 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"OVERLORD Zetta," the book stressed, "the most badass freakin' Overlord in the cosmos! And of course I'm fine, Alex! I'm an Overlord! I don't know how to not be fine!"

Ooh, awesome.

[identity profile] alterniantaurus.livejournal.com 2010-10-13 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
The psychic influence over animals/mindless constructs might be a surprise, but otherwise there's nothing too amazing about Tavros' status screen. Pretty average across the board, good intelligence, low will.

He shrinks back as he's corrected.

"Overlord Zetta," he quickly responds, "uh, sorry."

Re: Ooh, awesome.

[identity profile] shiratokai.livejournal.com 2010-10-13 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Eri?" Shiki makes a quizzical look in The Overlord's direction.

Turning back to Tavros, "Nice to meet you."

Bracing himself, Shiki lifts his part of the table more easily than one would expect of someone with his stature.
badassfreakingoverlord: (crap I'm a book)

[personal profile] badassfreakingoverlord 2010-10-14 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Hey! That's not teamwork!" Zetta grumbled. "How are they gonna learn if you're hauling all the weight?"

[identity profile] alterniantaurus.livejournal.com 2010-10-14 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Tavros looks a bit dubious at this, but he holds onto his end of the table. He feels really dumb letting himself getting dragged along behind this new guy, though.

[identity profile] shiratokai.livejournal.com 2010-10-14 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, suddenly lifting the table was probably not the best idea. Gritting his teeth, Shiki shifts his stance in order to maintain his balance as the world around him starts to spin. Luckily he is able to recover before his anemia decided to have him collapse with the table following him to the ground.

".... Whew. Okay, where does this table need to go?"
