Mission 01 - Recovery: Group 3

Na na na na na na na na na na Bat Team!

Nightwing, Terry, Robin, Wonder Girl, Stature, Hawkeye, and Wednesday set off in the direction of the third pod. They were headed deeper into the forest, where the trees got taller and closer together. There were places where they'd have to push their way through the underbrush.

Good thing she had some experience with camping from Interlochen. Still the woods there in the Midwest were nowhere as dense and wild as this area. Kate pushed another leafy branch away as she trudged along with the group.

"How much further? Anything?"

"If the trees weren't so thick I could grow and check- ack-" Cassie hadn't held back one of the shrubbery for long enough and it smacked her in the face.

Wednesday lets out a snort of amusement at that impact. He's moving like a cat through the underbrush, easily keeping a constant pace over, under, through, and around the plant life like he was born there.

"You okay?" one Cassie asks the other Cassie, as she slides under a tree branch.

"Only my pride is hurt."

"I've known a couple of people where that was worse than a physical injury." Nightwing grins back over his shoulder, though only for a moment. There's no telling what they could be walking into, after all. "Hard to tell how much further, though. I'm not sure if there's a scale on these scanners or not." He can handle a lot of tech, but he's really been thrown in at the deep end here.

Kate hung back to help Stature out with the underbrush, and remarked, "Least it's quiet."

She then made a face, "...I just jinxed us didn't I?"

First Obstacle

All of a sudden, plain as day, there's the sound of something charging through the underbrush, crunching leaves and branches--and possibly small trees in its wake.

Coming towards them.

Wednesday moves—up. For an old man, he can climb a tree pretty quick. Of course, the whole "horrible thing will stomp on you" motivation might help.

Stature's first reaction wasn't to climb or hide. It was to grow.

This was just the sort of thing Terry had wanted to save his power for. Within seconds, his wings had unfolded from the back of his costume and the jets had kicked in. He hovered at about twenty feet, waiting to see what exactly this thing was before doing anything drastic.

Kate meanwhile armed her bow, and readied it to fire as needed. She also shifted her feet for better balance for firing.

"Crap!" Cassie grumbles as she grabs her lasso and starts moving perpendicular to where the sound is coming from.

As they walk, they pass through a beautiful area with trees that have leaves that are semi-clear--almost like stained glass.

Eventually they find...

A house?

It certainly looks like one. It even has a packed gravel driveway leading up to it, a hover-cycle in the driveway, a garage for a hover-car--left open and the car's gone, as if whoever had been here just...booked it.

The doors to the house are open.

The leaves are interesting. Nightwing kind of wishes he had a specimen jar or something to take some back to the ship with them. Probably not the thing he should be thinking about most and he does get his brain back on the task at hand quickly enough when they see the house.

"So. Can anybody tell from here whether it's made of gingerbread?"

Well, mostly back on the task at hand.

Tim eyes the house warily. It looks empty, but... "I'm not volunteering to eat the gumdrops to check. In case the old witch comes out and wants to bake the people that ate her house."

Kate eyed both guys, and commented, "Shouldn't we also check in case it's well... a big honkin' trap? And I thought the deal was just wildlife on this planet?"

Cassie frowns.

"Easiest way to find out it's not a trap? Don't walk into it."

But she eyes the hover-car anyway.

"Like I said," Tim says, giving Cassie a quick grin. "I'm not eating the gumdrops."

Second Discovery

A little further in the forest, some trees are knocked down. Half buried by a rock and fallen timber, and half in a stream is the podship.

It's a little precarious, but one of them can probably get in to hit the button

Cassie comes to a halt, there, and lets out a long, low breath.

"There it is," she says, more than a little relieved.

One rampaging monster in need of a neck breaking (which is more humane than leaving him to starve, hogtied, Cassie reflects), an abandoned house in need of a clean-up, and lots of empty woods. Rather uneventful, by her standards.

It wasn't exactly eventful by Nightwing's standards, either. (Though they were going to be untying the monster on their way back. He couldn't afford to lose the jumpline just now.)

He nods, looking around and judging the way things are set and palming a tracer. "I'm open to suggestions, but it may be easier if I go for it." It wasn't exactly the most precarious position he'd ever put himself in, after all. And Nightwing knew and could trust his own balance. And possibly Robin's. The rest of them he just didn't know well enough yet.

"I can shrink and squeeze in there or grow and clear it out." And she wasn't exactly clumsy herself but she wasn't one to brag too much at once. "Or you can do it."

At least the domino mask kept most of the blush from being seen. "Of course. I should have thought of that, first." Shaking himself, Nightwing nodded. "The latter would probably be best. I want to put a tracker on it before we send it back."

"No problem." Cassie grew an extra fifteen feet. "Leave it to me."

Cassie started work on quickly clearing the debris.
