There were loud tunes coming from the hangar again. Virus was over with, city's re-open, Sam's ok, and the only drawback is they got an archangel turned trickster turned human awake and wandering the ship now. Eh, he could think of worst people from his world to wake up. A lot worse.
So time to kick back with his tunes, and hang out with one of his favorite girls. (Kaylee being the other now.) There were still a few repairs remaining from the shore leave he hadn't a chance to get to until now.
So Dean was currently underneath his vehicle, checking over her undercarriage while his bootheels beat a rhythm to some Led Zeppelin.
He was also singing.
"RAMBLE ON... SING MY SONG. BEEN AROUND THE WORLD.."

Jim gave a low, appreciative whistle, "Sweet ride, man."

He then got behind the wheel, and turned her over so her engine would growl and purr.
"Listen to that, those douchy plastic modern cars can't even compare."
no subject
"Don't get any of this from a repulsor car," he replied, "Man, I wish I hadn't trashed the Chevy."
no subject
Crying shame about that poor car.

Of course, by 'suffering' he means being manhandled by his jackass of a step-father. She'd actually been in amazing condition for a car that was the best part of three hundred years old.

Jim'll gladly go for a beer, "Thanks. So, what else do you do to kill the time when you're not tuning her up?"
no subject
"Check out some of the beauties around here, helping out with some of the tune ups when people have asked. Security, running sims for practice, listening to sweet tunes, tavern. Gotta do something or you'd go nuts around here."

Her attention didn't stay on it for long, though. She looked up when she heard music, trying to find the source, and smiled when she did.
"Nice car!" She called out.
no subject
"You too."

Bending over to look at Dean under the car, Kaylee smiled at the top of his head. "She's lookin' better each time I see her."
no subject
"Hey baby, just had a few more repairs to give her."
no subject
"Well, you've done a shiny job on her so far. Can't imagine what else you've got in store."

Dean put an arm around her shoulder, "I bet, like to see how your girl handles." Maybe it wouldn't be too bad in space with her. He's still nervous about flying in the sky though.

Dean nodded at that, "Should think so, the way you look after her so well."
no subject
"Well, y'know. Gotta take care of my baby."

One day if they went back to their worlds, he knew he'd lose her. Just the way it worked for anything he loved, might as well get used to it. But for now, it was good.
And he was seeing Stacy's crew as something to protect as well. Could be family, but didn't matter, they needed to be looked after.
"Yeah I know it."
no subject
She planted a kiss just below his ear. "Need such lookin' after," Kaylee laughed, though whether it meant he did or the cars and ships did wasn't specified.

He kissed her back, but now he was belatedly blushing, and rubbing the back of his neck.

A nervous laugh. "Not that we'd be able to 'round here anyhow, right? No use in gettin' flustered over it."

"How's the oil lookin'?"
no subject
He started to say so, but then relaxed when she changed the subject. He walked over to the car.
"Looking good still. I figure at this rate, she's not going to need another oil change for some months." Just can't drive her out as often as he liked to.
no subject
"You keep her in this condition, she'll last for years." Like Serenity. What she wouldn't give just for a test spin right now.
no subject
"Oh yeah, she's already lasted 40 years so far." He patted the hood.
Dean then glanced over at her, "So laid low during that Croat mess?"
no subject
"Looks like you survived, after all."

"I have a question for you, if you have the time."
