A Really Bad Week

There was something different about the tavern. Typically, the mood in it was cheerful, almost homey; for the past few days, however, it had been... solemn.

It could have been blamed on a number of things. Because of the recent strike against GLaDOS, people were remembering those that had been repodded, and Hisk, the previous helper, was among that group. Kawalsky, Cassie, and two of the people in the pods had been killed. And lastly, though it was public knowledge by that point that Hiccup and Rose had been hurt, it wasn't yet known exactly what had happened or how bad it was.

Kang knew, though.

All of that combined equaled a somewhat mopey draconian behind the bar.

"No. It's... not something I want to discuss here," Kang said after a pause. He'd never really discussed this with anyone before, not even Fonrar; he hadn't needed to since it was a common issue with his kind. He trusted Rhiow, though.

Not here? Rhiow asked, in the mental dialect of the Speech, or not now? If it makes you uncomfortable period then I'll stop prying... but you know what they say about us and curiosity.

Her ears twitched. It was true, he had peaked her curiosity.

Kang dropped his voice, wings rustling slightly, "Not now. Later, though, when everyone's left."

"Of course," Rhiow said peaceably. The fish had been demolished, leaving bones and skin on Kang's bar, and Rhiow licked her whiskers and resumed her groom.
