It was no Enterprise, but it would do for now

With no layout of the ship to go by, and no escort for now, Picard was winding his own way through the strange living ship, learning and memorizing the hallways and doors, teaching himself where every section led, and what awaited at the end of each corridor. It was difficult work, but it gave the older captain something to do to keep himself occupied while the current command staff began the easy transition between COs.

"Certainly a remarkable ship," Picard remarked, running one hand against a wall curiously. "I've little doubt her crew is equally remarkable, if half of what Captain Bennet says is true."

The datapad makes a small noise and he glances down at it. Without explanation, Jack pokes at it a couple of times.

"Okay, I'll admit it was kinda cool after the fighting part was over. Then it stopped being cool and started sucking," he says as he does.

"Yeah." Jack misinterprets the question. "The food's really bad, the clothes are really bad, there's alien monsters and stuff on here that can kill me, jeeze. There's not one good thing I can say about this stupid place."

"Really?" Picard asked. "Not one?"

"Yeah. The only thing good that's going for me right now is that I can do some things to help. But it still sucks."

Something occurs to him. "I'm Jack Spicer, by the way. Evil boy genius, prince of darkness, couple other titles." He gets distracted by the datapad again.

"Ha. Well, that's quite the title, Mr. Spicer. I'm Jean-Luc Picard, Captain of the USS Enterprise." Smiling, a little suspicious, and now a lot more weirded out, Picard held out his hand to Jack.

Jack accepts the handshake. He doesn't seem to get that introducing himself as an evil genius is not good social conduct. That, or he just enjoys disturbing people.

"Huh, so we've finally got real a captain on here huh? Like spaceships and stuff?"

"Yes, the Enterprise is a Sovereign-class starship, and the flagship of Starfleet." It was easy to hear Picard's pride in his ship, and in his crew as he continued. "My crew aboard the Enterprise are the finest crew in all of Starfleet, without a doubt."

"That's cool," he says, warming just slightly. Jack's never been quite a sci-fi nerd, but he appreciates that sort of thing. Once he gets the scratch together he thinks it would be cool to build a spaceship.

"Yeah, I'm just on the engineering crew here. Was doing some testing. At home I've got a lot of things going."
