Command Staff Meeting!

Cybil Bennett had contacted Chief, Lyta, Nathan, Billy, Allen, Doc McCoy, and Superman for the Senior Staff meeting. Captain Kirk, Captain Picard, and Elfangor were invited to be part of it.

There'd be a general meeting after all this to make sure everyone was okay with the regime change, but, well, they had some real captains here now. Might as well take advantage of it.

The only non-senior staff member here, down where they were having the meeting in the Vatican in the city was Jaime Reyes, who was currently shielding them via a blue bubble from Stacy's sensors. They were weak in the City, but you never knew.

"Don't mind the blue bubble, folks, or the armor. Jaime here is just making extra sure Stacy doesn't listen in."

She folds her hands behind her back. "I think introductions are in order, first. Elfangor, you're the only one I haven't been formerly introduced to. I'm Cybil Bennett, a police officer from Brahm's, West Virginia, and as of right now, acting captain, though I'd like to see that change."

She looks to one of the others to introduce themselves.

"Kal-El of Krypton." Superman says simply.

"Most of you know me, but for those that don't I'm Spartan 117, Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy. I'm with the UNSC, if that means anything to any of you. I answer to 'Chief' or 'Spartan'," the Chief says, eyeing in particular the new crew members as he does.

"Cybil named me second in command at our last meeting," he adds.

The minute she entered the Vatican, Lyta was taken back by the drastic changes that St. Peter's Basilica had undergone. The stained glass windows were now covered with thick planks of wood taken from busted up pews. Several other pews had been nailed together in what appeared to be make-shift beds and several piles of metal lay in one corner. Someone had been busy...

Turning her attention back to the reason for being there, she introduced herself to the new arrivals.

"I'm Lyta Alexander, Commercial Telepath, official PsiCorps rating P-5."

Nathan was something of a lapsed Catholic, but even he was eyeing the changes to the Vatican with annoyance. One quick cursory glance around before nodding to everyone.

"Nathan Petrelli, formerly elected Congressman of NY's 14th District. Also former Naval pilot." The Assistant DA part could be mentioned later.

Superman raised his hand. "I'm not necessarily opposed to it per se...other than the fact that, if I understand it correctly, both Captains just came off of the pod. Would some time to allow them to get acclimated be a good idea before you simply hand off the reins? With all due respect, Ms. Bennett...I think you're doing a perfectly good job as it is."

"I've no problem with claiming command, if it's truly necessary. Acclimation isn't something that we exactly have time or luxury for, from the sounds of it. I can tell you, honestly, that I've been in a situation rather similar to this one," Picard commented, stepping closer to Superman and Cybil. This situation sounded like an odd distortion of the Borg, and even the ship they were on seemed like an organic Borg cube at times.

"I've always been a quick learner."

"I've asked the engineering staff to work on the production of some my equipment. I only have my fieldbag with me, but it did well enough on healing the Winchester kid's brain issues - hyposprays being the primary starting point. I'm not sticking a needle in anybody's anywhere if I can avoid it.

"I'm also working on determining other medical staff, other than Mr. 5." A pause. "You'll love him, Jim, you'll think Spock mated with an Orion.' He turns back to everyone else. "Anyone with ANY kind of medical experience...even first aid...I need to talk to and acclimate to the medlab. With this many people on the ship, I don't want to be caught shorthanded if at all possible, and the less we use the damn holograms, the better."

Kirk grins, "Spock and an Orion? I can't see it happening in my lifetime. Although, I suppose that means you've been butting heads with people already."

"One of our ongoing issues has been the facilitation of communication across the ship. Given the probable emergency situations we'll be facing and the considerable size of the ship, we decided that a remote communications system would be a necessity. That's why Brainiac 5, Allen, and I have developed communication rings that we will be fitting all the crew members with at the upcoming meeting. At full functionality, they can transmit signals over distances as large as parsecs. They're also equipped to extend the range of telepathic transmissions over the same distance."

Stopping to take a breath, he addresses the little snag. "Unfortunately, we've hit a dilemma. Some of our crew members are capable of morphing their physical forms, and the change of shape would cause those crewmates to lose their rings. We're attempting to find a solution that would allow the ring to shift with its user, but we haven't had a breakthrough."

With that said, he nods to Allen. "And now Allen's report, unless you have anything else to add about the comm rings?"
prettycoolguy: (helmless: Yes I do have a face.)

The Chief furrows his brow. "I assume you're talking about the werewolves and morphers, correct?"

"I know the wolves just need something that won't cut the circulation off a limb when they're at their biggest, you could put it on a long cord or something around the neck if they'd let you. As for the morphers, though, I haven't seen how much they shift." He looks to Elfangor. "Elfangor, I'm sure they'd appreciate any help you could give them with this "morphing" business if you have any experience in that area."

When the comm rings have been thoroughly discussed, Allen stands up to speak his piece.

"The vent-crawlers have been doing a great job, getting into some of Stacy's blocked-off areas, but there's a lot of risk involved in sending a living person through the vents like they've been doing, so our other project is geared towards taking some of the danger out of their jobs. We're currently in production of a set of remote-operable drones, which we're gonna use to map out Stacy's inner workings as best we can - and figure out which vents lead to dead ends, or incinerators, before sending a person through them. We're hoping this will reduce the number of violations on some of our most physically able crewmates as well."

"The design process for the camera-drones was simple enough, so right now, the main obstacle between us and the plan is the building time. We could use some more people to help with the building process, and while some robotics knowledge is preferred, the only real requirements for this project is a pair of steady hands and the ability to listen really carefully."

Re: The Security Situation

[personal profile] prettycoolguy 2009-05-04 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
The Spartan nods. "The ship is very big, and Stacy's not even in control of all of it. Especially the city, which is where both the onship threats we've dealt with have originated."

"As a result, we've been working on getting regular patrols going in the living quarters and city. At the last meeting we got a lot of volunteers for it from among the crew. The problem is that until we have the comm system, communication across the ship is sketchy at best so even if a team does find something, there's valuable time lost spreading the word."

"We've also started sleeping in shifts, so the entire crew is never caught asleep, and we've been trying to encourage going nowhere alone. The last one's hard to enforce, though, and some of the crew just don't care."

"Things have been quiet since the Yeerk infestation, but I have a bad feeling about this. As soon as we have working comms I want to start stepping up security measures."

Re: The Training Situation

[identity profile] look-upinthesky.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"I have to admit, I'm only in the formative stages of structure. The first thing we need to do is to develop two programs - you can't work basic training on individuals with no meta-level physical attributes the same way you can with those that do. Coordinating strike teams is a different matter - I'm going to need a full catalog of who has what combat-level abilities and I'd like to work with Chief on determining the best mix of people per squad. Chief's got more realistic experience when it comes to pure army combat...but in terms of mixing metas into that, as a former leader of Justice League America I have some insight as to good squadron mixes. Having squads of same-powered teams isn't always the best idea."

"My biggest concern right now is making sure everyone can take care of themselves, and if they can't then we know who needs protecting. I've been in the field for years, if it shoots in a straight line I can probably teach somebody to use it without killing the rest of us. And I'm glad somebody can work with the metahumans, we don't have any where I'm from and it's been a couple decades since I've met a human that might be able to take me in a fight." He nods to Superman. "You need me, you talk to me. I'd be glad to assist."

Re: The "Getting the #@$% Off the Boat" Situation

[identity profile] el-escarabajo.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Okay--" Jaime clears his throat. "Okay, so the current plan we're running with--and I have backups--is two-fold. Right now we've managed to get an understanding of the vent systems, and some of the morphers and more flexible people were poking around in them, but I've called them off from doing that. Too dangerous."

"What we're doing now is the engineers here have been working on the automated probes as asked, to help map out of the vents and run a sensor sweep of the entire length of them--we need to make sure there aren't any security systems in place first that can kill somebody. Ax already triggered one that blew him right out of the vent system, and I'm worried that they might do worse than that if people try to go deeper."

Deep breath.

"So the plan is robot probes. Find any security systems, disable them remotely. The probe will map out the best route, through the largest vents to closest next section of the ship. Then we'll explore that section remotely, and also try to detect any more security systems. Once we think it's pretty safe, we'll have the tinier volunteers go through first. There's a guy here named Ron that has, like, this sentient rodent, as far as I can tell, that's volunteered. Also the morphers have volunteered to morph something small. We rig them up with a tracking device, and comm devices, just for extra safety and they go through. If there's anything we missed, the smaller size means they'll be less likely to be detected and harder to catch. They're under strict orders to get their butts out of there and come back if they're in trouble."

He goes on, "If the probes and tiny people have determined there's no automated defenses, we send larger people in to join the morphers. At this point, people can probably blunder around without causing problems if nothing went 'Alert alert, activating the Killotron!' I think Robin, Zuko, and Mai should be the ones to join them. They're all small and flexible, for vent-crawling, they have crazy-good combat experience, and they're very level-headed. Robin is a hacker so he's our guy for opening the doors. They find some sort of access point or engine room, they get the door open to let us through. To be honest, my readings are making me think the stupid thing is only shielded on our side."

Another deep breath--this kid barely breathes between sentences.

"From there, we keep opening sections the same way until we reach the Command Deck, the Engine Room, or some area of the ship where we can confront our kidnappers and/or get our nerds hacking the controls and computer systems."

"Plan two is finding a way to negate the shields on the door and having the superstrong people punch down the doors. Brainiac 5 was working on the shieldy negater and he's having trouble with it, but thinks he could get it done in a while. But damaging the ship would probably result in Violations and right now there's me and two other people with anything resembling superstrength--at least as far as I know. Even if we spread Violations out, you figure a Violation might be each punch..."

He shrugs. "That's last ditch. Just going in through the equivalent of the window and opening the door is the best bet."

Finishing up, he says, "As for progress? The probes are close to ready, and we just have gather our group and have the rest of the crew standing by, so I figure maybe after the main meeting, or the next day, if we need a lot of machine prep time, we might be ready to go." He nods to McCoy. "I definitely want a doctor or a couple doctors standing by in case something goes wrong."

Politely, he adds. "Sir."

Kirk flashes Jaime a confident smile. Although he's not quite used to blue armor covering the young man, he's seen enough that it doesn't put him off of his game, "That's quite a report, Mister Reyes. And very well done on your part, I should add. If you were from my universe, I'd recommend a stint at the Academy. It sounds like a solid plan and as long as you're sure of the men and women you'll be using for this operation, it sounds like it should go off well."

A pause and then adds with a wry chuckle, "Of course... there's always Murphy."

When the meeting threads are over and most everyone has dispersed, Allen catches Cybil at the door before she goes.

"Hey Cybs. Got a minute?"

"So, I meant to bring this up earlier, but then the whole Yeerk thing happened - anyway, I'm pretty sure that just before that, Zuko beat Brainy up in the medlab. Which means there's at least one blank spot in Stacy's 'no-violence' field, and also some, uh, cohesion issues off the executive level."
