Dean had voted. It felt a little weird since with all the traveling and fake ids growing up, he had never even registered so back home he never voted. He wondered if his brother ever tried while he was at Stanford. But maybe not. They still tried to keep a low profile, and that meant to the government as well. Almost like ghosts really.
Still he made his choices, and right now, he was having an idle beer near the beer tree. Kyle had warned him to keep a low profile after pissing off Vader, but really? Trouble tended to stick to Winchesters like dog crap to shoes, and Dean was no exception to that rule. If anything, sometimes he encouraged it. It was going to happen, what's the point in hiding really. Better to be prepared. Of course he was armed, it was why the shore leave was so hard. Felt naked without carrying at least a gun and a knife. Preferably more.
So he was contemplating some recent events. Less about Vader, because the guy was an amateur with his threats. Oh sure there was the anticipation, but he lacked follow through. It was one of the lessons that Alistair drilled into his head in hell. Lessons he still remembered, even when not carved in illusionary flesh.
No the events he was contemplating were his possible and Sammy's future. What Cas remembered in his past. And if they really could change it. He drank his beer, hoping to drown what was knocking at the back of his head, seeking that little 'yes' as a door to his meatsuit. Like hell.
He started singing a song he hadn't sang since before he was dragged into hell.
"Because I'm wanted... dead or alive...."

Hydroponics reminded him a lot of the Biosphere. The plants and the animals were different -- sometimes very different -- but it was still soothing.
His ears pricked at the sound of someone singing and he turned that direction. Didn't entirely want to be alone. Hadn't been his intention when he'd come to the Hydroponics department. He paused, looking at the tree and the guy sitting by it. Ain't so sure Bon Jovi'd be me firs' choice, he said, letting his mind brush the guy's. But works fer gettin' pissed as much as anythin', I'd wager.

He then stared. Great some kid with something covering his jaw.
"Great, kid, sneak up on the drinking guy who's armed why don't you?" He gestured to his face, "That the reason you gotta make with the Vulcan mind meld deal?"
He tends to be twitchy with people anywhere near his head or mind.

Well. Maybe not. It still HURT getting shot.
He shrugged, staying back. An' yeah, it is. Got hit with the suck end of the powers stick back in me world.

Yeah, just like Dean wouldn't watch the reruns. Repeatedly.
"Yeah, but you know what I meant. No poking in the noggin, capische?"

He rolled his eyes and stepped closer. Even if he was a telepath, conversational distance was more comfortable for people who had to talk. More trouble with people projectin' 'an me goin' int' their heads, he pointed out as he folded down into a cross-legged sit. 'Sides, mos' people don' wanna hear 'at they've got nothin' terribly interestin' in their heads t' look at in the firs' place.

It was probably a sign that he'd been an X-Man too long when his first thought wasn't the actual, world ending sort of apocalypse.

"No, no, not a guy. I mean Biblical, as in Revelations, heaven and hell. THAT kind of end of the world."

Another moment. An' Onslaught. 'At one killed a lot of good people in our world. Was lucky mos' of 'em got better. That was the way of his world. Nobody stayed dead. Well, almost nobody.

The getting better part, Dean barked a harsh laugh, "Yeah, I know all about 'getting better.' Got better a few times myself."

Cas shoves his hands in the pockets of his jeans and waits for Dean to notice that he's there.

"Hey, come to join the party? It's an end of the world blast. Everything must go." He took another swig of his beer.
"Here, a toast to deadbeat dads who let their sons down. And a toast to everybody leaving."
no subject
"Who's leaving?" he asked with a frown.

Either way, it seemed like he was to be alone.
If he kept refusing... every future seemed to involve him continuing to say no.
Dean... we can still save them all.

Dean sighed and quietly wondered, "Why is it, every future I say no, but Sammy ends up saying yes?"
Because you know how it's supposed to be.

If he was back on his world... Dean wondered. Not like there was any point in saying yes now. But if the world returns...

Dean just stared back sadly, "I can't lose Sam. I can't. Stacy saved him, and I gotta make sure he's safe. Maybe that's the lesson here. It's the only thing that's different. Maybe the future will be the right one this time."
