Just Missing a Little Something [OPEN]

Finding her barn and being able to stay at her house were things Cassie didn't think would happen again until after they were done with the yeerk invasion. Arriving here only made her think that she would have to wait longer or never even see them again. It certainly warmed her to find them here, but at the same time it seemed to emphasize what must have happened on her world.

Some nights she would find herself in her barn again. Her memories before anything happened washed over her as she closed her eyes. When she opened her eyes and didn't see the usual sleeping animals or alert eyes of the nocturnal animals, she felt an emptiness.

So today she decided to wander the hydroponics. Looking at the variety of animals and vaguely wondering if she would be able to help out here. There were some animals she had never seen before, but she still felt the same connection to them.

She laughed a little bit before walking around to sit down where he could see her. "Nope, just Cassie."

"Oh...Oh HEY!" He cheered seeing her, "I haven't seen you since you got here, how's it going?" He grinned pleasantly and sat up leaning against the tree.

"It's okay. I had to do a few things with the people I knew, but I decided to take a break here. How about you?" She asked, settling in to sitting on the ground.

"Oh you've got people here? Awesome! I'm kinda jealous." He winked playfully, "I've had to make all new friends since my old ones are...yeah." He moved on swiftly, "I just thought I'd poke around looking for something to snack on but, well I don't think the fruit here is up for grabs is it?"

She looked up at the fruit in question. "They may be for the animals. I'm assuming they would be, but I don't know." She looked back down at him. "I heard you can get real food from 'shore leave' but I didn't go on it to find out."

She paused. "Anyway, your friends may show up. I've heard that 'loved ones' may have been saved too, they just haven't woken from the pods yet. There's still another one of my friends that hasn't woken yet." She tried not to worry about Rachel too much. After all, Tom was here, alive and from a time before she was taken from, it could happen for Rachel too.

"I bought some but I dunno where I stashed it..." He scratched the back of his head sheepishly blushing. "As soon as I was on the ship again to store my food that creepy computer lady nabbed me and threw me into her crazy experiment thing."

As for his friends, "I'm kind of banking on that...I mean there are a couple of people here who know me but I don't know them...does that sound weird? It's probably weird but life is so weird lately I've forgotten what weird is like." He laughed.

"I know what that is like," she replied with a smile. "I've seen a lot of weird things, I'm hardly affected by it anymore."

"Can you change into a dog and sniff out where you left your food? How long were you gone for? It might still have your scent on it." She offered the idea, not knowing if he had tried that yet or not.

"Ah I tried that, still do every so often but I was gone for a few weeks." He sighed, "Hopefully shore leave comes around again soon. Would you believe I actually found the one shop in town that sold...well I'm pretty sure they were vegetables. It's hard to tell what's meat and what's not when it comes to alien foods. Man do I miss tofu." He lamented and one could just imagine the thought balloon above his head with a juicy veggie burger.

"There's only one shop that sells vegetables?" Cassie asked with a small frown. "You'll have to tell me where it is next time there's a leave. I think I'll go down and stock up on food too. It'll be nice to have something else to eat."

"Well there was stuff that looked like a mix of vegetable and steak but I'd rather not take any chances." He winked, "Wouldn't want to eat anything I might turn into someday." And as if to prove his point he shifted into a green chicken in a blink.

"I can understand that." In the same way he did, although he didn't know that still. Cassie did have a few exceptions, like McDonald's File-o-fish. Admittedly it was her 'guilty pleasure' as one might say.

"I've worked with a lot of animals at my dad's clinic. Both of my parents are vets, so we tend to stick with veggie things too."

Beastboy shifted back his eyes lighting up, "Your parents are vets? That's so COOL!" He exclaimed, "That's like, one of the coolest jobs in the world! Helping animals and stuff?" Despite the fact that his adopted parents were actual super heroes Beastboy couldn't help but respect people like doctors, police officers, fire fighters and the like. And his love of animals put vets very high on the list.

She smiled back. "Don't let my mom hear you say that. She'd hear 'cool' and try to connect with you." Her parents could be embarrassing sometimes, but she loved them. "But yeah, she worked as the head vet of this amusement park slash zoo, and my dad heads the wildlife rehabilitation clinic, also known as our barn. That's where I helped out at all the time.

"If they're here, in the pods, and they wake up, they probably wouldn't even leave this area. It wouldn't matter if they're alien animals, they're still animals." Truly, she felt the same way.

"Sounds like my mom actually." Beastboy laughed, "She's like totally 80's sitcom mommy at times."

"If my friends are here they'll probably wanna jump right into the fight, Cy would wanna be working with the techies, Starfire the warriors, Raven would want a nice dark corner to meditate in and Robin would be all about meeting with all those big wigs throwing their hats in to be leaders."
