And you say that time goes rushing by, but it seems so slow to me...
Any other day, maybe, the Doctor might be wandering the ship, looking for something interesting to pull apart or poke his nose into. He still hasn't had a chance to inspect the brain of the ship, after all, and there's that great big city he'd like to explore as well...
But right now, he'd rather not. He's tired and annoyed, and any place he could wander, it wouldn't be far enough. So instead, the Doctor has sprawled on his back, halfway upside down, on one of the couches on the Obs Deck. It seemed as good a place as any to sit still for a while - maybe not the place to go if he wanted to be alone, but he'll take company over quiet just now.
He doesn't actually seem to be paying attention to anyone who might be in the room, though. Instead, he's playing with an unidentifiable bit of patched-together technology - it's got buttons and flashy lights and a little dish and there is absolutely no outward indication of what it actually does. It's... entirely possible it's not meant to do anything, at least at the moment; he just wanted something to do with his hands, though someone to talk to (or talk at) would undoubtedly be a better distraction.

He paused, though, seeing the man playing with the whatever-it-was on the couch. He looked bored, and, curious (about the man and the tech), Luke made his way over.
"Hello there," he greeted, sitting on a couch opposite. "What's that?"

Hello, Doctor, have a little Komali peering st you from excessively short range. How in the world he snuck up to the couch so quietly is another matter- a mystery for the ages.
"It looks neat," He continued, blinking enormous red eyes up at the device, "Can I touch it?"
no subject
"Hello there! I, uh... 'course you can!" Which is not what he'd say to everyone, but... well. Komali's a child-shaped thing, and the Doctor's pretty fond of those. He holds the little device out for inspection. "It's just... something I happened to have in my pockets."
There are a lot of things he 'happens to have in his pockets'. It helps that they're bigger on the inside.

"It's very nice," He pronounced, solemnly, in a way that implied he was patronizing the Doctor, "Does it do anything?"

If it weren't for such moods (and perhaps a small amount of boredom) Ba'al would never have set food on the Obs Deck again. He had avoided it, mostly because it was a place of gathering, by nature. He felt it necessary to branch out and make connections, but he hardly enjoyed being in large crowds of people. Fortunately, it was not terribly crowded that day.
The man on one couch did, however, catch his attention; Ba'al was unfamiliar with him, and he was handling some piece of alien technology (which he could not, for the life of him, identify). He stood not far away, hands folded behind his back (which now had a suit over top of the plantsuit), watching him for a moment, before he spoke up.
"Keeping yourself busy?"
((ooc: and I finally tagged you somewhere!))
no subject
The Doctor had noticed the man in the suit out of the corner of his eye, but he doesn't actually pay him any mind until he speaks. Glancing up, the Doctor snorts softly, not quite a laugh, and answers, "This isn't busy. This is bored. And... some other things, but mostly bored."

"Seems you've found something to occupy your time, Doctor."
no subject
Maybe that's only from the perspective of a time traveller. The Doctor's not a fan of linear time.

Moving over to the window he gazed out at the void of space, and thought. There was a lot he'd learned about the Ohm during the battle, and he was still sorting through it all looking for a weakness. Something he could exploit. Not just on a strategic level, but also on the tactical. It wouldn't do him any good to be able to cut off their communications if he couldn't take out a simple grunt.

Not someone he recognises, even in passing. And judging by the look of him, one of those military types - this ship has plenty of those, after all. Wonderful. The Doctor eyes him for a moment longer before turning his attention back to the object in his hands. He's much more comfortable with technology than surly soldier types anyway.

"Doctor!" Pleased to see him, he changes course so he can go over and pester the Time Lord. That's much more interesting than practicing, anyway. Once he gets closer, he spots the whatever it is the Doctor's playing with, and reaches out a curious finger to poke at the dish.
"Hey, what did ye come up with now?"
no subject
"Don't touch it, it's delicate. Ish."
Okay, he's been keeping it in his pocket for months at least, and anything he carries with him tends to get banged around a lot, so it can't be that delicate, but he's touchy sometimes. He grins anyway, though, happy to have someone curious about what he's doing, and levers himself back to an upright position on the couch.
"I built this to find holes in space and time, not so long ago. Not the big gaping permanent ones, though... it does those too, but I built it to find the little ones that crop up here and there, drag people or things through and then close forever. Happens more often than you'd think. Anyway, this thing picks up on Vortex energy, Void stuff, all the energy signatures those sorts of holes give off. Worked perfectly, but here on the ship..."
He switches it on, and immediately, every light on the thing starts flashing, it starts beeping annoyingly, and the dish on the top starts spinning around frantically. The Doctor lets that go on for a moment before he switches it off with a wry smile.
"It's a bit useless. I'll have to find something new to do with it."

That meant that they had returned safely to the ship.
Still, enjoying being able to familiarize herself with the ship better now that she could see, was not enough to distract her from the sound of the beat of two hearts in one body.
The Doctor must be in the room. She enjoyed her banter with him, even if last time she had met him, he had awoken her with that irritating sound. However, looking around, she did not see the Doctor. Just the general body of the ship wandering through the decks.
Eyes failing her, Nanashi used her ears, and discovered a peculiar man playing with some flashing disc had the same heartbeat as The Doctor.
How odd.
Nanashi walked towards The Doctor- The Tenth Doctor that is- and sat down on the nearest bench to the Doctor, leaning towards him. Her introduction to the last odd man with two hearts had gone rather interestingly. Time to experiment!
With the exact same politely inquisitive smile, Nanashi asked the exact same thing she had asked the other man with two hearts, "Excuse me little one, but you are not quite human, are you?"
She wondered if they were from the same world, the same species. She also wondered if the quirkiness was a cultural thing, or if this man would react completely differently.

"Little one," he repeats, sounding deeply amused. "Oh, it's been a very long time since anyone's called me that. And no, I'm not human, but I do a very good impression."
He tucks his device back into his pocket and leans forward, studying her face for a moment before he goes on, "And neither are you. Are you?" No, he's not actually sure about that, but most humans can't tell what he is - or, rather, what he isn't - right off. It seems a pretty safe guess.

Annoyed Doctor? Prepare to be more annoyed!
He was sitting on one of the squishy couches, legs up on the cushions and taking up the whole thing. He wasn't really doing anything, just thinking. As he did so, he played with a plain gold fob watch. It looked like just any other watch when it was closed, but the look he gave it and the reverence he treated it with was a clear indicator that it wasn't just a normal watch.
He'd gone a pretty long while sitting there, not noticing the Doctor. What got him to finally look up and see the annoying time traveler he didn't know. But as soon as he did, he groaned. He hadn't realized he'd done so aloud, though.
no subject
"Oh, really. Stop it, that's... completely unnecessary." He at least had the good grace to be civil. If by 'civil', you mean 'ignoring Rei entirely', anyway.
