Beastboy was for the most part a highly emotional boy, running on lots of energy, irrepressible cheer and a sense of humor that was...unique at best.

But sometimes...sometimes he needed time to think and be quiet. Usually he could do that while playing game station, reading comics or going for a flight.

Today however despite his lack of desire to socialize he had energy to burn. That creepy robo chick had teased him with cake and gotten him all worked up, only to drop him just in time to find out he'd missed a huge fight.

So being the responsible and intelligent hero he imagined he was, Beastboy decided he needed a little training to get back into the swing of combat.

The Sensoriums were awesome in his opinion, like a giant do it yourself video game.

So the scene? Jump City streets just outside the his favorite Pizza parlor.

The enemy? Sladebots! The best for cannon fodder, they were robots so he didn't feel bad about stomping them flat, and they were just scary enough to be a challenge.

This was his right? No way he could lose...

***

Within ten minutes he was being rolled down the street by the over zealous Sladebot projections...his imagination was running away with him.

While she did redden a little at the "hot girl" comment, se did come out of hiding, placing her hair back in place.

"I'm right here!" She said, waving. "Sorry about running...we had to fught one of those things a little while ago, and well, it wasn't pretty. THey're pretty hard to take down!"

She walked over to him. "So what's thsi team like that you were talking about, the ones on that island?"

"It was during the invasion of this evil god known as the Nightmare King," Katara said. "Basically, he was this evil entity that was able to being up all of your worst nightmares and feed off fear. The stronger he got, the more dangerous things became, until finally everyone's worst nightmares started to manifest. That dinosaur was only one of a long list of things we had to fight. That's why destroying those robots just now weren't that freaky: they pale in comparison to fighting a terminator."

Katara watched him describe each of the members of his team with glowing pride, and it actually made her a little happy. She knew exactly what he was talking about: Zuko, Sokka, Toph, they were her team, her family. She didn't get to see them much, and that was sad: she missed being around them, talking with them about things they knew about. It was as if they'd become strangers, and she wanted that to end.

"Well, it looks like your friends wanted me to see them!" Katara said, pointing to them, and then pausing at the blond girl. "But who is that?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-04 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Katara had to laugh at Beastboy's reaction to bringing up his friends without meaning to. She couldn't help it: his humor was actually pretty comforting, a reminder of why she really liked being on the ship even when all of the misfortunes were piling up on her. It was always hard to feel lonely here!

But she couldn't help but notice his reaction to that blond girl. She knew the reaction pretty well: it was the same type she had whenever the subject of Jet was brought up. She guessed there would always be that reluctance to talk about something like that, especially when it was so personal.

But she did laugh when he dismissed his friends so abruptly. "Guess you;re still getting the hang of the Sensoriums, huh?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-05 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Katara laughed. "Beastboy, we don't have anything CLOSE to this back home. Where I come from is all ice and snow, and in the rest of the world, we haven't gotten far enough to make anything like machines yet. The Sensoriums is like something out of a fairy tale!"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-05 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Katara turned a hint of pink. This was way too much deja vu right now: once again someone green was reminding her how not with the modern technology she was. She shook this off though: there was no point in her getting bothered by it now.

She laughed a little when he turned into the small bird. "We don't have any of those things where I'm from Beastboy. Most nation have their own kind of recreation: sports, active games, bending."

Shore leave was certainly interesting, to say the least. Not just for the final day, for that matter. In fact, the second day still had her in quite the shellshock (although she wouldn't admit that out loud). Whatever had gone between her in the Colonel during that simple conversation, it was obvious that the feelings behind there weren't purely professional. And that was no matter how much she'd prefer it otherwise. (Although, thinking on it, she wasn't sure she'd care for it the other way, either.)

For now, however, she couldn't think on it. With the recent events had certainly gone under critical aim training, especially since she felt she could have hit more accurately (a sane person might try and tell her otherwise). Currently, however? She was walking with Hayate, once more trying to completely familiarize herself with the ship. Said pup was doing all he could to try and run forward a little bit until his master said something, to which his ears would fold down for a minute before perking back up and trying to walk proudly. This was done to a lot of rolling of the eyes by Riza.

However, as they passed the Sensoriums the pup decided to stop and nose his way to get in.

"Hayate," the woman said sharply as he pulled her in the room.

However, she stopped at the sight of a very... more advanced city than she was used to and whatever the creatures were that were rolling a young man down the street. While her hand went for the gun on instinct, Riza's eyes narrowed. Soldier's instinct both acting and analyzing, the gun was prepared but it was likely to be a training session (considering she used this room for such, and she had heard of others, as well as the fact it did seem offensive). She was more than certain the ship would have said something if there was truly something attacking. So it took a minute of watching before she sighed slightly.

Riza recognized the boy too. They had spoken through text only, but the image was tell-tale and she doubted there would be many green people on the ship. Holding tight to Hayate's leash she spoke.

"I certainly hope these aren't the tactics you mentioned, Garfield," she said in a casual dry-humor, "...do you need assistance?"

Katara thought for a moment. "Depends on which nation you are. In the water tribe, we play ice dodging and go penguin sledding. The air nomads used to play airball, or Bison Polo. In the Earth Kingdom, you could play soccer with earthbending, or ride the Elephant Koi if you were in Kyoshi Island. The Firenation had games like Hide and explode, or Kuai Ball. I haven't played all of these games, and I know there's more I've missed, but those are the ones off the top of my head!"

At his response, Riza nodded shifting the gun into one of the makeshift holsters (yes, even on ship Riza did not go anywhere without two guns). Hayate, on the other hand hunched down and let out a small growl as Beastboy transformed into the huge dinosaur. While Riza was reminded of a certain homunculi for a brief moment, she had remembered what the boy said and with the small noise of command silenced Hayate and gathered the pup up in her arms.

If he had been making anymore noise still, it was definitely gone.

For now, Riza kept her eyes trained on the boy-dinosaur as he attacked the robots. This was certainly interesting, at least. Still Riza being Riza, she kept quiet until he was done.

Riza rose a brow, shaking her head to herself. Taking a moment, she returned Hayate to the ground where he sat, wagging his tail cheerfully. Friend to play with?

"I'd hope so, considering there doesn't seem much of a chance for us to leave any time soon," she returned straightening, with the small thin-lined, just for, you know, kids smile.

Riza rose a brow at the interaction, but smiled lighter as Hayate pulled on the leash she had on him to play with Beastboy. It wasn't often he got to play with another dog, especially considering his master.

Taking a moment, she bent down to undo the hook from Hayate's collar.

"His name is Black Hayate," she responded quietly, although stern, "and he's highly trained." Also known as, don't spoil or break my puppy's regiment of training.

Hayate, also, was much too enjoying the fact there was another dog here (although senses did tell the thing it was still human). He glanced up at Riza and when the stern look didn't tell him otherwise, the pup pounced on Beastboy in gentle roughhousing.

Ah, Riza's boy.

Spoiled, Black Hayate was being spoiled (not that Riza didn't have that tendency herself). He rolled around at the tummy scratch, tail wagging furiously.

Shifting her position, the faint-lined smile remained. "I think so at least," she responded watching her pup, "and he makes a pretty good guard-dog when he wants to."
