"OW! That so totally hurts!" -- Charles Xavier

The battle against the Ohm raged on, and the casualties on the ground were mounting. Injured crew members got emergency treatment in the field, which largely amounted to patching them up so they wouldn't die sometime within the next fifteen minutes. After that, they were quickly picked up by shuttle and brought back to the ship, where they were sent to a medbay that was getting progressively more crowded.

The situation was growing increasingly dire, to the point that Stacy activated one of the AI's to help out.

"Please state the nature of the medical emergency."

Nanashi managed to stumble into the medbay, looking rather exceptionally pale. For her, this was saying something. She knew she had to drink before she ended up passing out and turning on an ally.

Nanashi dragged herself over to where Sam was keeping the animal blood he had brought out earlier and bit into one bag, taking another bag with her to go sit on the nearest bed.

That bed happened to be Negi's, but she was far too consumed with draining the bag of every drop of blood to realize this.

"Hiya," said Negi as Nanashi sat down next to him. Was that a blood pack? It was. Huh. Was it his lot in life to be surrounded by vampire women?

"Blood any good?" he inquired casually.

[identity profile] sanguineroyal.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
Nanashi's eyes snapped up, though the rest of her remained frozen in place. The look in her eyes was fierce. It was not usually a good idea to interrupt her while she was feeding. Instincts told her to destroy the danger, but she ignored it. She instead relaxed and finished the blood packet.

A bit of colour had returned to her as she finished draining the blood. After she finished the blood she said quietly, "It's better than that slop on the ship."

It was better, but not fantastic. It was nothing compared to human blood, even if it nourished her. "Animal blood is actually unprocessable by many in my world. I am lucky." It wasn't the first time this difference had come in rather useful.

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
Negi nodded, thinking about Evangeline for a moment. "I don't think I've ever really seen master go out feeding every full moon save for when I arrived for the first time. I know she eats a lot of normal foods and enjoys Chachamaru-san's tea a lot."

"Then again, I don't know the differences between vampires and High Daylight Walkers."

[identity profile] sanguineroyal.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
Nanashi ripped off the top of the other blood packet, deciding to drink this slower, less carnally. It helped to keep those instinctual urges from arising.

"I am unable to eat any human food. My body will reject it. Most times I can not even swallow it. If by High Daylight Walkers you mean humans, I barely would know where to start about the differences we have in our world."

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
"No, no. I mean Evangeline, Master. She's of a type of Vampire known as a High Daylight Walker. Unaffected by holy items, direct sunlight and can cast spells like the dickens," said Negi with a shake of his head. "I guess over time she gained the immunity values against the usual stuff."

[identity profile] sanguineroyal.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
Raising an eyebrow, Nanashi sipped at the blood in her hands. She wished it had been warmer.

"She sounds pretty powerful, this master of yours." Nanashi didn't want to admit that she had already met Evangeline and been rather intimidated by her. "The only 'holy' items I am effected by are the ones 'blessed' by 'angels'. These creatures that call themselves angels have recently surfaced, and their blood is like poison to us vampires. When they coat something in blood they call it 'blessing' it, and the remnants of their blood continue to act as a poison." Nanashi turned the bag upside down, pouring what was left of the blood into her mouth.

She stood to get more, but felt light-headed and could not help but to sit back down.

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
"She is, and it's part of the reason why I admire her," said Negi honestly. He had to worry about the angels and if they would show up here, but decided against asking her.

"Do you need another one?" inquired Negi as he started to get up.

[identity profile] sanguineroyal.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
Nanashi put out a hand to keep Negi down as she stood again, encountering the same problem. She tried once more, and was able to walk over to the cart and kneel in front of it, resting her head against it.

"You need to stay lying down, Negi. You were hurt bad."
She was certainly one to talk, with a horribly dark bruise visible through the giant rips in her dress.

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
"But you're hungry," protested Negi weakly as he was pressed down. He sighed. If only she wouldn't be stubborn and take a drink once in a while. Man, what was it with white knights all around him?

"Are you okay though? No other injuries?"

[identity profile] sanguineroyal.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
"No, I am fine." Nanashi had received plenty of other injuries, but one of them quite as severe as being run-through. She had completely recovered the rest of them. She pulled out two more blood packets and pushed herself back to her feet, carefully making her way back to Negi's bed.

In all honesty she should be in a bed herself, her internal injuries far from completely healed, but she just needed more blood and she would be able to move about again. Even if with this injury she moved slower- to the point where it felt like she was moving through molasses- she could still keep up with the fastest human at least.

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Alright," said Negi, hoping that she was telling the truth. She did seem pretty roughed up at the moment and it worried her. Nanashi was important to him, despite the stand offishness she had. But he was used to that all around.

"Need a pillow at least?"

[identity profile] sanguineroyal.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
A pillow seemed like a wonderful idea. She was really tired, but she would be damned if she did not return to the battle as soon as she had drank enough blood.

Nanashi smiled at Negi, lifting the bag to her lips, "No, I am fine, however," she handed him the other blood packet, "If you could hold this against you and maybe keep the blood inside moving...?"

His body heat would warm it up, and it would not clot as long as it kept getting shifted.

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
Despite how creepy it was, okay scratch that REALLY creepy, Negi nodded and pressed it against his bandaged chest, squeezing it as he pulled the sheet over himself.

"It's better warm?"

[identity profile] sanguineroyal.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes," Nanashi nodded. "When I drink it cold it is like ice is running through my veins. Cold does not affect me the way it does humans, but when that ice is inside of you... It is very uncomfortable."

Nanashi was so accustomed to these concepts they did not even strike her as creepy. She would even be confused as to how it could possibly be creepy if told it was. She often had a hard time seeing things from a human's point of view- especially a human unaccustomed to living around vampires much like herself.

This is what led her to say such things so matter-of-factly. "After all, normally when I drink blood it is rather warm." The more she spoke, the creepier she got sometimes.

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"That... makes a lot of sense," admitted Negi, thinking as he rubbed his chin thoughtfully. It would also make sense why he never saw Evangeline drink any blood that was chilled. Though he definitely knew Evangeline and Nanashi were different people entirely.

[identity profile] sanguineroyal.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Nanashi smiled at Negi, "we never stored blood back home. It would be unrealistic since it only was cold in the winters. And when blood is warm but does not move it clots, making it undrinkable."

Draining the last of that blood bag, Nanashi held her hand out for the bag she had given Negi.

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2010-07-01 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Negi handed her the bag, the liquid already warmed. "Here you go," he said.

Ahd he nodded. "It would make sense all things considered."

[identity profile] sanguineroyal.livejournal.com 2010-07-01 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah," she muttered with a bit of nostalgia washing over her. "Back home, the war we had, it was hard on the humans of the country too, even if they were not allowed to fight. Once the Angels arrived, the war finally went from being a series of unsuccessful invasion attempts by the humans to a true all out bloody war. We needed to have many living humans cycling their duties in the med tent. If we could have kept and stored blood..."

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2010-07-01 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
"It must have been hard," said Negi as he fiddled with the IV just a little. "I can only imagine how tough it had been for you and your people."

He bit his lip a little. "I hope you enjoy your drink at least."

[identity profile] sanguineroyal.livejournal.com 2010-07-01 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Nanashi smiled, bittersweetly, "Yes, we lost many, and the humans lost even more." Nanashi took a draught from the blood bag, "Even now, for me to recover enough to return to the battle field, I would have needed enough blood to endanger one of our human's lives." So used to thinking as the nameless humans that served her as tools more than people, she slipped up with the unattached manner about which she spoke of them.

"Thank you for your help, Negi. You are very brave, little one." Nanashi patted his leg, "I am glad you are not too severely hurt. I could never forgive myself I I failed to protect you. Or Katara for that matter."

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2010-07-01 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
"I'll be fine. I've incurred worse actually," said Negi in a way to try and sound nonchalant. "I'll heal up soon, don't worry."

"You're very good with handling the magical weapons of an artifact though," poked up Chamo as he poked his head up. "Maybe someday we'll have to..."

Negi grabbed Chamo and made him bounce. "Enough of that!" He was blushing red, something he didn't want to let her tease him for.

[identity profile] sanguineroyal.livejournal.com 2010-07-01 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Nanashi followed the little ferret-like creature's train of thought, and found herself going bright red as well.

She had been thinking that it would be rather beneficial for her to from a patico with Negi, after seeing that one in action, but the thought of kissing him on the lips seemed so wrong. She was ashamed that she had even considered it, and embarrassed to have Chamo bring it up.

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2010-07-01 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
Meanwhile Negi was sputtering. Kissing Nanashi like that would be like kissing Shizuna-sensei. Just wow... he admittedly liked older women but still!

"C-chamo-kun mou..."

[identity profile] sanguineroyal.livejournal.com 2010-07-01 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Downing the last of the blood bag Nanashi stood stiffly. "I really ought to be getting back into the fight."

She rolled her shoulders, trying to keep the flush in her cheeks down- which was a good deal harder with all that blood freshly in her system.

She ran her fingers through her hair, glancing over to Negi with a nervous smile.
