"OW! That so totally hurts!" -- Charles Xavier
The battle against the Ohm raged on, and the casualties on the ground were mounting. Injured crew members got emergency treatment in the field, which largely amounted to patching them up so they wouldn't die sometime within the next fifteen minutes. After that, they were quickly picked up by shuttle and brought back to the ship, where they were sent to a medbay that was getting progressively more crowded.
The situation was growing increasingly dire, to the point that Stacy activated one of the AI's to help out.

"Please state the nature of the medical emergency."

"Please state the nature of the medical emergency."

Clapping his hands, dark blue magic flowed up one arm and pink light flared up the other. "This is going to sting. I suggest don't hold back and yell if it hurts too much. I have to detox AND get that flesh regenerated asap before it becomes gangrenous."
And Matt slammed his hands into Billy's wounded limb. "GET BETTER DAMN YOU!"
Lightning crackled and coursed up and down Billy's body.

Billy waited anxiously, becoming somewhat concerned when Matt didn't grab any tools. Instead, he held out his hands and---
---summoned a shower of lightning, piercing him with its intense energy. He choked back the cries of pain, instead gripping the cot so tightly that his hands turned white and locked into place. More pain now would result in less pain later. That, at least, was the idea.
When his brain started to catch up, he idly wondered whether the words Matt had yelled were a necessary incantation.

Chugging a little of the giving liquid, he added, "I detoxed your poison as well, and repaired your leg as well as the little tears in your muscles from fighting for so long. I wouldn't put pressure on your leg though since you need to rehab it just a little. How do you feel? Minus electrocution."

Shifting the hole in the plantsuit, he found that Matt was correct about his leg. "Got it. I feel...surprisingly normal, actually. What was that process?"

"In laymans terms, I just quintessenced you back to health. With magic. Life magic, mana, whatever you wanna call it."
He pulled out a juice box. "Want one? You need electrolytes."

Normally he would have said more, but he was still feeling strangely exhausted. "Thanks again. Oh---sure!"
Billy happily accepted the juice box. He'd been rather thirsty, come to think of it.

"But quintessence, it's commonly known as the fifth element and manifests as lightning, or vice versa, as pink light. It's what makes up everything on a molecular level but in a spectrum uncommon to normal scans and checks. Sort of a sub-field like a grid all around us, and what we see here is the external layer of it."
"Food and water replenish mana, but I've been siphoning a ton of magic from our bus' engine. Glad it's self-maintaining and self-perpetuating." and Matt sipped his drink. "It's like they say, eat and drink before and after blowing up a mountain."

"What are the other four elements? I'm guessing Irma's water is one of them." True, the elements being discussed weren't the ones he would use to describe the world, but it was useful information to know.
A pause, and he looked over at Matt with concern. "Is the detonation of mountains a regular occurrence where you come from?" That last saying gets an eyebrow quirk.
Don't worry, the questioning's just a way to distract himself from going numb with worry about the carnage below.

"Once in a while," admitted Matt, thinking of the last few battles he had been in. "Usually we refrain from doing so but when in Rome, you make due with what you've got."

Leaning back, he chuckled over a sudden yawn. "Wow. Just...rest up if you can, all right? Is there someone around to relieve you?

"I'll be fine. Got a couple more people to look after before I get off shift. Lots of people to look after, and I think Vivio wants me back soon by her bedside. I promised her moms I'd look after her." added Matt, stifling a yawn. "You get some rest. I'll be on my feet for a while longer."
no subject
Satisfied, he slowly nodded and dropped his head onto the pillow. "Go to Vivio. I saw her on my way in, and she could use her company."
