Fighting the Ohm....IN SPAAAACE!

As soon as the Ohm appeared, Wedge had begun moving. He practically sprinted off the Obs deck, yelling at Stacy as he headed for the hangar bay.

“Stacy, I need our fighters prepped now..” He doesn’t wait for an answer, instead lifting his comm ring to his lips and speaking into it, the message transmitted across open channels to everybody in range with their own rings.

“Attention, Rogue Squadron. Scramble, scramble, scramble! All pilots report back aboard Stacy and to your fighters. This is no drill! Again, Rogue Squadron, scramble! All pilots to your fighters!” He glanced back at the others who had been close enough to the Obs deck to accompany him back aboard Stacy.

“This is it. We’ve trained. We’re as ready as we can be now. This is for real this time.” With that he headed deeper into the ship.

As he arrived in the hangar, he was already discarding the civilian clothing he’d picked up and was half-running, half-hopping across the bay to his fighter as he struggled into his flight suit. His helmet was waiting in the cockpit. He clambered up into the cockpit, kicked the ladder free to be caught by a tentacle and tugged his helmet on. No time for a walk around. He simply had to trust that the ship was in shape to fly. He keyed the comm system on the fighter, as well as speaking into the comm ring.

“This is Rogue Leader to all fighters. Launch as soon as you’re ready. Form up in wing pairs and engage the enemy. Our primary objective is to keep additional Ohm fighters from reaching the planet and from attacking Stacy. Fly your best out there, everyone. May the Force be with us.” With that he, began a quick-start check of his systems, and punched the throttle as soon as he was sure that his fighter wouldn’t explode when he launched.

“Rogue Leader is away, four lit and green.” His fighter slashed out into space, free of Stacy. And the Ohm were everywhere.

[[Alright! No post order for now. Just get out there and into the furball. Have fun, tag each other, back each other up. Late arrivals can join the fight, of course.

Kyle heard Wedge's scramble, and beat the decks getting to his flight suit, and X-Wing. He'd thankfully left the former in the later for just such an occasion. Firing up the systems he hoped to the Force everything was still in shape from the last inspection. Zooming out into space he immediately had to dodge incoming fire from the Ohm. Force he hoped the new kids would be alright. They still didn't have enough training to be out in the this kind of mess. Hell, he didn't have enough training, and experience to be out in a fight like this. Opening up with his lasers on the nearest Ohm he flicked on his comms.

"Rogue Fifteen joining the fray Rogue Leader. You alright?"

"Rogue Sixteen right behind you, Rogue Fifteen." It was time to see just how these X-Wings held up in a fight, his first ever in space at that. "Come on baby, let's see what you've got."

Asuka's heart was racing - she could hear the blood rushing in her ears. Finally, real combat. A real chance to show she was the best. TO show that she wasn't a useless waste of space. That she was more than just some little girl. She was still struggling into her suit as she half-hopped across the hangar towards "her" X-Wing. She was going to do this. She tugged her helmet on awkwardly and then shot up the ladder to the cockpit. She secured herself and ran through a hasty pre-flight checklist as the canopy lowered. She flexed her fingers over the control stick and then kicked her throttle wide open as she roared out of the hangar and into the inky blackness of space.

"Rogue Four away! All engines green!"

Below her, she could see the blue-green planet. Not to mention the millions of Ohm.

"Four," Arha said, a small grin flickering across her face as she tok out another enemy fighter. "Watch your six, mm? And don't scratch the paint any more than it is. I just buffed it out."

Despite the light banter, Arha was working hard and clearing a significant amount of Ohm in her range. She was also keeping Ohm away from Wedge's ass, rolling, dodging, but always working herself back into formation.

Lowe was support. Lowe was a technician. Lowe... was NOT going to let these bug bastards get away with this!

Forgoing a space suit and racing into the hangar, he boarded the Astray Red Frame, hooking up 8 into the machine and allowed the Mobile Suit to kick on. This was going to be a tough battle - the Mobile Suits still with batteries were still that way and if they ran out now...

He shoved that out of the way for now.

[Red Frame is armed and ready to go.] 8 chirped up, his computer screen showing that the suit's beam rifle, anti-beam shield and flight pack had been installed. [Battery power at maximum. Are you ready, Lowe?]

"Ready as I'll ever be, 8. Alright, let's show these bugs who's boss! Lowe Guele in the Astray Red Frame! Heading out!" With that, the Red Frame raced out, joining the X-Wings already in flight.

Danny, hearing the call, had left the ground battle and gotten back to the ship.

The battle had been raging for a while by the time they'd gotten there, but better late than never, right?

Two yellow blasts speared an Ohm, shredding it - and as the Strike Freedom's railguns folded back onto its hips, Kira's voice crackled over the communicator. "Lowe! Is that you?"

Arha barked back a quick response and then jammed herself into her flight suit quicker than she'd ever pulled on anything in her life. She did a quick pre-flight check and then launched. With the utmost care, she eased off and formed up on Wedge's wing.

"Rogue Leader, I have your wing," Arha said, her voice crisp as she rolled and took out an incoming Ohm ship, then juked back into formation. "Ready, steady, and green across the board."

The moment Yzak was informed that the Ohm were attacking, he sprinted off, away from the crowds. There were enough crew members taking care of the evacuating civilians, and if there weren't enough fighters resisting the Ohm, they'd all die anyway.

He ran as fast he could (which was fast, faster than most of the civilians) down the streets, desperately aiming to get to his mobile suit. He brought his comm ring up. "On my way!" he yelled breathlessly into it.

There's a fighter plane flying at dangerously low altitudes nearby, Yzak - and in the back, Kira spots a familiar head of blue-gray hair even as he swivels in the turret to try to bring down the Ohm that are everywhere. "Is... that Yzak?" he calls to Shinn in the pilot's seat.

This isn't working like this. They need to get into their Mobile Suits.

The steady stream of curses heading down the hallways towards the Hangar was unmistakable in its source, spoken in gruff Russian and muffled by a fluttering greatcoat flung over knobby shoulders. Exactly what this person was doing on-ship so soon after leaving the reactor had yet to be established. Perhaps he was running away. Perhaps he was getting more supplies.

Or perhaps Dustin was on the way to his ship, knowing that the Ohm were still dropping troops upon the planet, and he felt like he actually had a chance of fighting against them this time. This time.

This time they wouldn’t get away so easily. This time he would look one in the eye(s) before shooting it out of its ship with several megatons of compressed Elemental energy.

They would remember him.

The Dart was waiting, sleek black carapace fresh, untouched, a splash of darkness against the assortment of worn vehicles around her. A simple command from his phone opened up the main hatch, bringing Dustin directly onto the bridge. For a fighter she was spacious: not much larger than some of the X-Wings she would soon be accompanying, the Dart still managed to have a full control panel with room for two, one chair borrowed and the other—the obvious pilot’s seat—an old swivel chair, the one that sat inside an abandoned warehouse for all those years, bolted to the floor with straps and audio links. Just behind that was the airlock, from which Dustin had entered, which was a small cabinet with a fitted, armored suit inside, one that its owner slid into before entering the bridge proper. A lab and sleeping quarters hardly larger than a walk-in closet was in the back, circling around the weapons store and fusion engine, but that would not be necessary for this trip.

Dustin strapped himself in. He took several deep, calming breaths.

He’d never tested the Dart before. He’d never flown before. Not even a single simulation—Dustin just didn’t have the stomach for it, not when he was younger, and he wasn’t entirely sure if that had changed after a little more than a decade of traveling and age.

…Ah well. At least the suit was self-cleaning. Dustin resigned himself and flipped on the first few switches.

Silently, running with a liquid purr that mirrored her form, the Dart streaked from Stacy’s open airlock and into space.

An open audio source automatically linked in. Dustin somehow managed to find enough air to announce his presence over it, though it took a bit of convincing to get a hand off the steering apparatus so that he could connect on his end.

’Dart incoming, six-o’clock and passing left,’ he croaked at the X-Wing in front of him, quickly falling into the swing of things despite having never personally met most of these individuals before, ’Give me some room—still figuring out how to drive this thing…’

It should be said that Dustin was doing a superb job so far. That would remain so, as long as he was able to keep his breakfast down—and chances of that happening were getting steadily slimmer.

A life in the military meant a life used to last-minute scrambles and sudden attacks - it had been a long vacation on the ship, but her reflexes still remembered late-night alarms on Pandora.

The stakes were higher this time - much higher - but she shoved that to the back of her mind as she vaulted into the cockpit of her X-wing, letting her fingertips brush lightly over the controls as she ran it through its startup sequence. She didn't give a shit about the flight suit right now, and barely managed to get the helmet jammed on her head before the cockpit sealed.

She took a deep breath and punched it, zooming out of the hangar. "Comm check - Rogue Fourteen is away," she said.

They were everywhere. Trudy hissed something very nasty and began evasive maneuvers. Then, softly, almost too soft for the comm to pick up - "Dios te salve, Maria. Llena eres de gracia: El Señor es contigo. Bendita tú eres entre todas las mujeres..."

[OOC: Trudy is saying Hail Mary, for the curious.]

Yzak scanned his screen, making out all other allies in the area. Some were already in battle, some looked like they could use an extra hand...

The huge, white mobile suit swooped downward, in the direction of the X-Wing. Yzak opened the communications line.

"Hey," he said. "I'll keep you company."

It took Sam a bit longer to get to his X-Wing because he'd still been on evac duty when he got the call. But Dean got him back to the Obs Deck, which meant he could get back to the ship. Then it was a flat out run to the hangers and a murmured thanks to Dad and Dean for all the damned running they'd done over the years.

It took another few moments to get into his X-Wing. Helmet. Strapped in and turn on the comms for launch. "Rogue Two is awa...holy crap." There were Ohm everywhere. He took a breath and let it go. "Christo." Yeah, definitely not demons. "Right. I'm coming in on your wing, Rogue Leader."

Hopefully the lessons settled in better than he was afraid they had.

"Kira Yamato, Freedom... heading out!"

The mobile suit dropped into empty space, the planet a glowing orb far below them, and Kira pushed the throttle to maximum as the Phase Shift armor activated, color spreading across the machine's 'skin'. There were so many of them...

He drew the machine's beam rifle, though didn't fire yet - he'd just be wasting energy at this distance.

DEATH STAR TRENCH RUN (sorta)

[personal profile] jesushasagundam 2010-06-24 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
There's probably quite a bit of comm chatter between wingmates on the Rogue bandwidth, but if you're listening, you might catch a bit of pertinent information:

First, Shinn's voice: "We've got a shallow breach on this carrier's hull if you've got some bombs."

And then, Yzak's: "Some assistance in keeping a path clear for one would be appreciated as well. These things are everywhere!"

If you have any spare torpedoes, the small hole near the rear of one of the carriers would be a very good place to drop them.

[identity profile] quark-assassin.livejournal.com 2010-06-24 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
If there was one thing Dustin did have, it was spare ammunition. Well, the heavy-duty stuff; mostly he stuck to using Elemental charges which, though obviously less effective than he would’ve liked them to be, they were self-replenishing and sufficed for most of the smaller, singular targets.

Taking out a carrier was a priority Dustin was saving for later times, once he got used to flying this ship in the first place and once he felt confident enough to take it on. This included convincing himself that his vessel was nice and airtight, and thus would not spontaneously develop a fault somewhere and explode and have him fall either in perpetual non-gravity or to the ground of the planet below. But then he would think of a bit of wiring that he could’ve done better, or perhaps a safety feature that had just enough holes in it to make it unnerving, even if they were the microscopic kinds of holes, because those were the worst kinds of holes, and—

—Damnit, he needed to focus. Dustin bit his lip and guided the Dart into a sharp ascent, ducking past Ohm headed for the surface. Their numbers increase as he got closer, and only then did they begin to notice him; in a desperate attempt to shake off the ones on his rear and surprise those above, Dustin brought the fusion engine up a level, pulled the steering into his chest, which consequently began compressing as soon as they went vertical. The G-Forces at this stage were manageable—perhaps it would’ve been better if he didn’t start spinning.

Like a semi through a swarm of gnats, the Dart’s razor edges sliced through unsuspecting Ohm, damaging and distracting but, unfortunately, not killing. The ones that saw him coming got a face full of crystalline plasma matter and were thus significantly deterred. The Leviathan came quickly into view and continued to grow at a frightening pace.

Dustin probably should’ve said something official into the comm system, as it was on during this entire time so that he could say that he was actually headed up there, but with the air being forcefully pressed out of his lungs there was little more the genius could articulate, other than perhaps a long, frantic-sounding yell:

’INCOMING!’

A black slab of metal peppered with bits of Ohm flew in a sudden arch over the damaged Leviathan, releasing two bombs of varying chemical compositions. One had a charge, and would make a small explosion upon impact; with any luck it would also ignite the other. The chemicals would react, several seconds would pass, and…

"Rogue Six, heading out."

To his credit, Jamie manages to keep his voice from shaking in the moment before his X-Wing shoots from the hangar bay. He's nervous, sure, but like Wedge said, they've trained for things like this, they should be prepa - OH SWEET JESUS BUGS EVERYWHERE.

With a sharp intake of breath Jamie surveys the swarm already engaging his teammates; he singles out one, clenching his jaw as he follows its movements, struggles to line it up in his targeting reticule, gets a lock - and vapes it, his target vanishing in a brief gout of flame.

Abruptly he's put on the defensive as two more Ohm appear on his tail, peppering him with their own weaponry. Jamie jukes, weaves, rolls to evade, muscles taut, a gaping black hole of panic lurking at the back of his mind to suck him in.

He dives, and the bugs follow.

Char was out and moving straight into the fray as soon as he could - having done what he could evacuating, but focusing on getting back into space and into Stacy's hangar to do what he really does best as soon as possible.

Still distracted slightly by the huge presence of Stacy's mind but moving quickly nonetheless, Char moves his Sazabi directly into the thick swarm of Ohm units, slashing with a sizeable beam saber and blasting away with his beam rifle in spreadfire mode. He's holding his funnels and scattering beam cannon in reserve for now - he still hasn't gotten a chance to revamp the power system, and he doesn't want to risk running out of energy again. There are bigger bugs to fry later.

Sazabi, in spite of its bulk, practically dances between the Ohm units, not taking even a glancing blow in spite of its proximity as it does its best to cut or blast away at them. "Fast little small fry, aren't they..."

"Funnels! Hit em!"

With the cry of the familiar voice, the Sazabi is flanked by a pair of the familiar tuner-shaped remote weapons. As quicky as they appear, they fire! Outwardly into the incoming Ohm.

The weapons pull back, reforming the single wing on Nu Gundam's back as it boosts in in next to the Sazabi, firing off a rocket from it's Hyper Bazooka as it breaks to a stop before drawing it's beam rifle and proceeding to draw a bead on several units. If Char is holding back, Amuro clearly isn't.

...Of course, this movement leaves him incredibly vulnerable- not to the Ohm, but to friendly fire...

"That's for damned sure," Yzak grumbled as he tried to focus on the movements of the Sazabi. It was a bit difficult to concentrate for too long when there were Ohm coming in at him at the same time. He'd seen the suit docked, so he was at least aware of who was in it. "Captain."

Quick and red, Yzak's GOUF snapped its Slayer Whip outward at an enemy - cracking with the electrical shock it produced.

The planet was in chaos, the skies were filled with the flashes of orbital combat. One Zokez evacuation shuttle had decided to risk flying through the shifting webs of plasma and laser fire for open space – and run right into a swarm of attacking Shrikes.

“They won’t make it!”Shinn shouted, launching the Destiny after the evac vessel.

"No...!"

Yzak had experienced - caused, even. He hated to reflect on it, he was so stupid and so immature back then - too much civilian casualties already. And when he thought about it now ... sure, millions died when the Requiem was fired on PLANT, but after the Ohm had come...

The white GOUF boosted in at full speed, swinging its beam saber at and through some of the seemingly endless amount of Ohm.

Winter had made it back to Stacy without incident. Now she sat in the cockpit of a rescue shuttle, part of its crew. Normally the crew consisted of six people, but the communications officer hadn't been there at launch, so she was filling that role as well as being navigator.

The shuttle was well armed and shielded, but slow. The pilot and copilot were trying to keep it out of the main action, but still close enough to tractor anyone who was too damaged to keep fighting. Easier said than done - Ohm were everywhere. Rogue Three had had to put down on the planet; there hadn't been time to get to her before that.

Fighting memories of a hundred other battles, Winter eyed the nav board. So far the gunner was doing well, but space was three-dimensional and the shuttle's weaponry couldn't point in every direction. She toggled the comm and spoke coolly into it.

"Pickup shuttle two, coordinates five-ten two sixty-three seven sixty-nine, we have Stingers at subjective above. Any Rogues mind picking them off?"
