Katara had no idea what to expect back on Stacy, but popping into the Sensoriums, it was certainly not this. Nanashi was there, and so was Negi, who she'd been hoping to catch during their vacation but hadn't, and she seemed to be screaming at him. Katara rolled her eyes: this wasn't the first time that a girl had done this to Negi and was very likely not to be the last, so she decided to walk gingerly into this, see what was going on. Poor Negi didn't need to be screamed at.

"Your majesty," Katara said, then looked at Negi. "Um, Negi is a friend of mine, so if he's getting screamed at, I'd like to know why. See, I know that Negi's magic had a tendency to do weird things, so if that's the case, I'd like to speak in his defense."

When Nanashi had stormed up and snagged the holo-cig out of his lips, he just blinked through the tirade. That same goofy smile was still on his lips for the most part and it quirked in amusement at Nanashi's enraged state. Ah she did care!

And oh thanks Katara for sticking up for him too. That made things a whole lot better.

"It's not real," said Negi as the holo-cig winked out of existence. "It's holographic. I know I'm still too young to smoke but I also felt that it was the only way I could express myself at the moment."

He rubbed his head, chuckling slightly. "Sorry, I just had a REALLY great night and somewhere down the line, I felt like conjuring up one of these."

He flicked his fingers as another materialized, already lit.

Nanashi blinked. "W-" She caught herself before she stuttered 'what?' but she still looked surprised.

"So, it's not real?" Well, yes, that was what he just said. Nanashi was usually faster on the uptake.

She glared at Negi again when he mentioned his great night. "You did not have sex with a courtesan- or any other woman, did you?"

She had seen human, and even women sometimes, smoke from pipes before after a 'great night'. So, the cigarette was fake, but she was not sure if ruining his innocence with sex was worse.

"Nanashi!" Katara blurted out, turning red. She couldn't believe this conversation was happening. The very idea of sweet little Negi doing something like that!

"First of all, Negi, you shouldn't smoke okay? It's.." she turned and gave Chamo a We'll-talk-about-this-later mom look, "...bad for you."

She turned to Nanashi. "He didn't do that, but even I'm a little curious about the girl you spent that time with." She gave him a wink.

Chamo snickered even though he was glared at. "Ai Ai, anesan, both of ya. Aniki had a great night though, isn't that right aniki?"

"Oh it was swell," said Negi, still floating on cloud nine. "We went to a nice dinner even though it was kind of small portions, hit a hamburger joint for a drink and more food, and then we took a long walk down the beach and went to bed together..."

Keep digging that pit bigger Negi, it'll keep getting wider.

"Sasami-chan's really warm..."

THERE we go. And he raised the holo-cig to his lips.

Oh... My.
Nanashi was silent for a second, and then, "YOU DID WHAT?"

And Negi was up in the air, Nanashi holding him by his shoulders, attempting to gently shake him, and only being slightly successful.

Katara face palmed. She knew, KNEW, that Negi had not done what Nanashi thought he had. But if he was going to phrase it like that, she knew that he had to learn to talk more cautiously. What she was not going to do was let Negi take all of the heat for this.

Now she punted the ermine, not in an angry way but in a concentrated motherly irritated way. "If you wanted Negi not to get in trouble, you could have phrased that better. You're being perverted on purpose!"

Like Negi didn't have enough problems!

"I regret nothing!" exclaimed Chamo, flying along and making squeaky toy noises as he bounced.

"What?" asked Negi curiously as he was shaken. "Nanashi-sama, I would like it very much if you didn't shake me."

He looked down at Nanashi and asked, "So um... is sleeping together a big thing where you come from? Asuna-san and I sleep together all the time and so do you and I oneechan."

Nanashi slowly let him down. Well, you just managed to shock the vampire who thought she had seen everything.

And terrify her as well. "You- you sleep with..."

"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?"

Maybe if Nanashi had not been so shocked by what Negi said, Katara's statement and punting of the small creature would have set in a bit more.

At this, Katara took notice. Last time, she had felt so awkward and vulnerable, caught in a stupidly compromising position with Negi and looking so guilty. Now however, she crossed her arms, keeping her feet in place.

"Honestly, you really should believe me when I told you the only person I want to be with is Aang! Negi is a ten year old magician who misses his sister. He sleeps in bed with me the way he would with his sister: fully clothed but feeling protected. Negi is like a younger brother. That is our relationship."

She looked at Negi now, her face curious. "You know, you're acting a little slower than I remember Negi. Your reactions are almost...delayed. Are you all right?"

Thank you Bene Gesserit observational skills.

"S'true. Oneechan and I sleep together. I get nightmares..." said Negi with a little shuffle to his feet like the kid he was.

He blinked at Katara's question. "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" He grinned though. "Though maybe it's the drink I had... Sasami-chan and I had some of that awesome fruit beverage at the restaurant... what was it called...? Oh yeah, Meelar Water!"

There was a long pause. And Chamo looked up in alarm. "Oh no..."

Negi was a cheap drunk. And he drank only a grand total of a couple of times.

He and Sasami FINISHED THE BOTTLE.

"I wonder why it was so fizzy and good? We didn't finish our sodas but we drank the alien soda..."

Yeah, sneaking away now. Run Chamo Run.

Okay, so he had meant Katara by 'oneesan', not his real sister, but a sort of surrogate. And it was acceptable if it was like how Katara had described.

But Nanashi's temper was still high, and even more worrisome, Negi was drunk. So that was the sour smell to him.

She moved so fast that it would have been impossible for these human eyes to track, raising her arm up and back-handing Negi across the face. It was hard enough that he would stumble, but she decided to not break his cheekbone.

Ciggarettes killed slowly, and sex destroyed innocence, but drinking, that was dangerous. it could kill you if you drank too much, and it lowered your inhibitions, making other mistakes more likely, and it kept you from being able to judge a dangerous situation.

And angering Nanashi was most definitely a dangerous situation. "You got drunk." Her voice was full of blood. Not a good sign.

Ok, now Katara was really mad at Chamo, and was about to tell him so when she heard the slap from the other direction. She didn't even think about it: she was just there, from one place to another as she'd been taught by Arha, in Nanashi's path. She knew Nanashi was a vampire, that she could hurt her pretty badly.

Buts she also knew Negi Springfield better than that.

"You are strict, and I get that," Katara said, "but don't hit Negi. I'm his oneesama, and I'll make him understand what he did was wrong. He's a good boy...I refuse to believe he did it on purpose."

She gave a sharp, tell the truth glance to Negi. "Did you want to get drunk, Negi-kun?"

Negi rubbed his cheek. He had taken much harder blows than that but the slap actually did him some good, breaking through the haze of his mind for the moment so he could focus on Katara. "Um... not really?" said Negi, uncertain. "I didn't even know I was!"

He dug around in his pack, and held up the bottle with alien script on it as Chamo ascended to his shoulder unsteadily and ran the script over the translator core. "Meelar Water. Caution: Children should not drink this. While a regular soft drink engineered for adults, it is not intended for children as intoxicating effects will last for a duration of 48 hours." Chamo lowered the Omnicom. "Aniki... did you read this?"

"We didn't get past Meelar Water," said Negi honestly. "I thought it was okay. It tastes like sparkly fruit juice."

Taking a deep breath, Nanashi covered her face with her hand. "Please, please be more careful, Negi." Lowering her hand Nanashi looked sternly at Katara, "I am sorry Katara, I see we have very different ways of going about things. Still, it is rather unlike me to raise my hand against my-" Had she really just made that slip? "a child. I was just extremely concerned."

And drinking... It led to all sorts of other drugs, and she frowned upon that at least until you were done growing. "Negi, I do not want you to drink any more of this Meelar Water... Or anything else that will impair your senses. Do you understand me?"

Katara nodded. "I understand that. I also know Negi, and he has this tendency to get intro trouble by accident. It often gets him hit by girls, something I'm trying to help with positive reinforcement." She shot a look at the ermine hidden in the room. "Which could be avoided if a certain someone does his job of making sure he doesn't get into trouble!"

She sighed. "Negi, make sure you read the packages of strange things on different worlds you've never been to before. Use some common sense, or you'll get into trouble, okay? Just because you can make yourself doesn't mean you have adult tolerance."

She would find out who the lucky girl was later.

Negi nodded, shuffling his feet and looking a little too adorable for his adult frame. "I understand," he said softly. "I honestly didn't know... oh gods Sasami-chan!"

"She was fine," said Chamo, deftly avoiding Katara's Death Ray Glare. "She left the room looking all smiles though. Nice DATE aniki."

"FFFF it wasn't a date, it was a friendly outing!"

"Friendly outing my furry butt," said Chamo with a snicker. "Give me my cigs, I'm going out for a while."

Negi rolled his eyes, fished out a real packet and lighter and tossed it at Chamo who caught it and bounded away rapidly.

He turned a shamefaced expression onto them. "So um, about the drinking thing, I promise I won't touch it again. Till I'm 18."

Nanashi hugged to boy tight- but not too tight. We did not want to crush him now. "Good." She let go, and gave him a stern look, "But you will be in a world of trouble if I catch you smoking any of..." What was that thing? "your... pet's cigarettes! Or drinking again. If you are not cautious you could be poisoned drinking some alien drink with out reading it's contents!"

Nanashi folded her arms. The subject was closed. At least he was not putting up an argument.

But now who was this equally irresponsible female? While still stern, Nanashi did not look like she would be giving too much more of a lecture, "Who is this Sasami-chan?"

"Seriously, don't learn bad habits from Chamo," Katara said, shaking her head. Jeez, he must have been the reason Negi got into trouble all of the time. "And read what you're taking, okay?"

Katara had to admit feeling a little resistant to Nanashi's way of disciplining Negi. He was really way more innocent than he acted.

But she was curious about this Sasami person too. "Who is she, Negi, that you're 'not dating?'"

Negi reddened in his cheeks, just slightly. "She's a good friend, one of the young girls here in this place," he said, shuffling his feet just a little. "I like her. B-but it wasn't really a date, just a chance to do things kids don't get to do..."

He nibbled his lip. Why was it so hard to talk about this? It was like admitting what he felt about Nodoka and even then... that seemed easier.

"I don't know if I'm in a relationship really. We're... kissed... a couple of times but um..."

Nanashi blinked. And stepped back, "You kissed? Katara, you better stand between us before I lose it again."

Perhaps it was not the best thing, but Nanashi did not approve of "young love". It led to "young hertbreak" and a crying child.

Katara looked a little surprised. "You two kissed? But you're so young! Oh wait you took one of the pills, didn't you? Of course. But yeah, you're probably too young for something like that. But really, acting so smug and happy just because you got a few kisses! You really are such a boy, Negi Springfield."

Oh, she'll want to hear all about it later, and he could see the teasing smile in her eyes. Unlike Nanashi Katara approved of Negi being with this other girl, provided they were both equally naive in this area.

But she DID get between Negi and Nanashi now. Her reactions were getting harder to understand.

"Well um, it's just on the cheek really a couple of times," stammered Negi, twiddling his thumbs and poking his fingers together. "Oneechan are you trying to make me feel on the spot?"

He was whining, just a little like a kid should, but he couldn't help it. Katara was amused and Nanashi, well, he didn't quite understand why she was so upset.

"It's... not like I wanted to forge a pactio with her," said Negi, going red, clearly having thought about it. Her lips are soft too and... oh gosh... "I wouldn't want to put her in any danger from it..."

Nanashi was tapping her foot impatiently, giving Negi a very motherly "you are in trouble now" look. Nanashi did not like the idea of love. It caused too much pain. But what she was more concerned about was, "and what is this pactio that you were considering forging with her?"

Kano's well timed whisper chimed in now, "You know that there is no such thing as love. Why don't you tell him so? Ignore his tears! Break his heart."

"I'm just playing with you," Katara said, giving Nanashi a what are you doing look. This was another one of those times where Nanashi started think of love as this horrible thing, even though it was possible to find love again. She shook her head.

"It strengthens your magic, doesn't it Negi?"
