BEACH BAD, BEACH BAD [OPEN]

To say Vader was out of his element was the understatement of the millennium. He'd taken refuge under a large umbrella and was seated in his his chair as though it were the Emperor's own throne. Under the pretense of meditating, he was keeping a three-foot radius of space around him sand-free.

His beach towel would stay immaculate until he got someone else's blood on it.

"I did not know you were so fastidious about your sand," Arha said mildly. She had been slip-sliding in the Fremen walk, leaving no trace of herself behind as she walked. Clad only in the tiny black bikini she had purchased when Wedge had taken her for swim-ming, she paused, her head tilted to the side as she examined Vader and his umbrella.

She bent down for a moment.

"You have missed a grain."

"Oh wow," said Ben, which summed up his feelings on this pretty well.

Leia squinted behind her dark glasses and adjusted her wide-brimmed hat against the sun.

"How strange. Do you think someone left him there?" She whispered to her nephew.

"I have no idea. Bet someone'll be mad about us messing up the beach, though."

"I have been told this is the style of dress for beaches," Arha said (without any malice at all), peering at him. She saw the movement and sighed. He was going to be a child once more. She caught nearly all the sand with the Force and kept it from invading his clear spot before scattering it back to where it had come from. The few grains that peppered her shoulders and the back of her neck fell away with a light sweep of the Force.

It was good practice and she thanked him for it with a tug of a smile.

Arha supposed she could have been childish back and let his foolish actions pepper him with sand, but she had found his display a challenge.

"What precise breeze that was," she said as dryly as possible and sat herself down in his pristine, bare patch of earth.

After restocking the Shadow, Luke (and Mara) had made their way back down to the planet sans speeder, for a little relaxation. Luke had been cajoled into buying a pair of swimming trunks (http://shop.pacsun.com/boardshorts/New-Boardshorts/Monsoon-Black-Boardshort/index.pro) and a white shirt, and although he'd protested the close-fitting nature of the shirt, Mara had insisted it was fine.

Now, walking along the beach, he'd found his father, sitting in an inexplicably void area.

"Do you not like sand?" he asked curiously.

"These? This is this world's version of swimwear--Mara picked them out." He grinned. "Pretty nice, huh? I kind of like the design." He looked a little awkward for a moment. "I guess you can't exactly go swimming..."

"Are you sitting out here on your own accord?" Leia shouted back, annoyed, and also concerned that the beach towel would have to be burnt due to Vader's oozing. She hated waste.

"I'm sure you could go back aboard Stacy," Luke offered helpfully. "If you don't want to stay planetside. But I'm going to stay down here with Mara and everyone else."

"I could fight without a stitch on, if it were needed," Arha said with a laugh. "Unarmed combat was something I was taught as a child. I can kill, if it is a necessary thing. I do not relish the death, but sometimes it is unavoidable."

"If they had weapons, I would take what I could and use them," Arha said. "Perhaps I would not defeat a thousand, but I would kill a great many before my own death. I am not a soft thing." She blinked at him from where she sat and made a soft noise.

"I have gotten grit in many places. Living in the desert, it is seldom that it does not get in unwanted places." She shrugged. "It is its nature."

"A Jedi is never truly unarmed," Luke said, smiling. "Besides, I've got Mara with me. The two of us can take on almost anything together."

"It was my home," she said with a lopsided smile. "And it had a harsh beauty of its own. One may appreciate the finer points of survival when it comes to a planet such as your home and mine own. It was a fierce thing and it bred fierce people. It was also a place where I found a measure of peace, solitary an existence though it was."

She shook her head once.

"I think I became a little of the desert and the desert became a little of me. In the deep night, there was a sort of kinship. Perhaps that is why I like the sand in such a manner. I remember the good parts." She used the Force to make three grains of sand chase each other as if they were in a dogfight. Her delight in the simple act was bright and her unvoice laughter was brighter.

A green seagull made slow sweeping circles around Vaders chair before landing at on the edge and blinking at him.
