Above the planet on a wing and a prayer [Open]

It had been ages since he felt earth under his feet, and a sky overhead. A real one. Not like the flights over the city or even in the Sensoriums. Nathan breathed in deep, relishing the feel of the wind on his face. He could see some of the crew milling about, looking to shop or stock up on supplies. There were a few things he wanted. Some suits eventually, he had a feeling he'd need them to look professional soon. Things were shaping up and power was shifting. An election was coming up and he wanted to be prepared.

But right now. Now. He felt pressed in, even as large as the ship was, it was still finite. Granted so was this planet, but it was different. Weather patterns, air, more like home. He then shot up into the air, and took to flight. God it felt damn good to just let go. He wouldn't be surprised if others with flying ability felt the same way. The warm beat of sunlight, the air trailing over him as a boom sounded across the sky.

Nanoha had described herself as a person "of the sky" before, and she really had missed the ability to soar into a genuine sky - to feel the breath of the sea on her face as she swooped down, skimming the surface of the water so close she could reach out and trail her fingertips across the surface.

She hadn't even bothered changing into her Barrier Jacket this time; she just flew, spreading her arms wide and letting wind rush through her fingers. Of course, given that she leaves a translucent magenta trail behind her as she flies, Nathan, she's probably a lot more conspicuous than you are.

Just a little more than the white contrail he was leaving. Nathan did notice the colorful trail, and dove around to follow.

"First time off the ship too?" He couldn't recall offhand some of the folks who went on missions and who didn't.

Nanoha saw a shadow overhead and heard a voice - she turned over onto her back, smiling up at the man flying near her. "First time I've gotten to fly like this." There hadn't been much time on the Christmas mission, after all.

Nathan flew in closer so he could hover nearby.

"Yeah. Feels good to stretch out like this. Even with as big as the ship is... you can still feel..." trapped "cramped."

Nanoha pulled up, slowing to a halt and letting the waves lap at her bare feet as she hovered in midair. She nodded in agreement. "There's nothing like flying through an unlimited sky with a real sun and a real breeze in your hair."

"Mm, exactly. I wouldn't mind a desert field to fly over, but gotta admit this is refreshing."

There was someone else in the sky, wanting to enjoy every last minute of it.

It felt wonderful to fly through the sky again. Not only that, but also be at full power. For Superman, even just for a moment? He just wanted to cut loose and fly through the sky.

Thankfully, he opted for normal clothes over his usual costume - he'd probably get yelled at for wearing work clothes on a vacation.

"I grew up by the ocean, so this suits me just fine, actually," Nanoha smiled.

Nathan noticed the familiar figure, and swooped closer, keeping speed.

"About time we got to cut loose, right?"

Nathan nodded at that, "So did I, or there was New York Harbor. Guess that sort of counts. But was stationed in Texas for a while. Kind of liked it out there with the prairie and deserts in nearby states."

"I agree." Superman said, acknowledging Nathan. "It's been... confining being inside that ship for so long. Especially as long as I have."

She chuckled politely. "I'm sure! Japan really isn't known for its wide plains or deserts, though."

Nathan nodded at that, though the Japan ref made him think of Hiro. Guy was kind of weird, but earnest and good hearted. He wondered if he was sleeping somewhere on the ship right now. He hoped so.

"Right, right, heard you have some beautiful mountains and coastlines though."

Nathan nodded, "Me too. It's not the same."

He glanced upward, "Almost forgot what a sky looks like, what it feels like. Haven't seen a real one since I woke up all those months ago. Hell year maybe two."

A nod. "Yep! That does tend to happen when you live on one big island. I've always loved the sea."

Hikari had a gleeful smile on her face as she rode of Nefertimon, taking up to the sky. "Oh wow, I missed being able to do this, just flying around..."

Nefertimon chuckled a bit, not that anyone would be able to see her lips move under that sphinx mask that Tailmon's armor evolved form showed. "You're not the only one."

Nathan couldn't help smiling at her enthusiasm.

"Good for you. Good view around here too."

Nathan glanced down. Some kid flying on.... what the hell was it? He swooped down to study it better, but not too close.

"Hikari, there's someone near us!" Nefertimon shouted.

Hikari turned around to look, and sure enough, there was a man... flying. Without anything. "Umm... hi?" she asked, looking over at him. He was definitely older than she was by a lot, but she couldn't tell just how old.

Nanoha's positive attitude did tend to be infectious. She returned it. "Get enough altitude and there's always a good view," the girl said with a slightly wry tone.

"Though flying out too far might make it hard to find your way back when there's so much water."

"Why I'm just looping around the coastlines. At least some of the islands are pretty close together."

Nathan flew closer and hovered near them.

"You're all right there?" Gesturing to her decidedly strange ride.

Hikari smiled. "Yeah. Why wouldn't I be?"

"Just not sure... what is that?" Gesturing again to the creature.

Hikari giggled. "This is Nefertimon. She's my digimon partner."

"Are you one of the people who are aboard Stacy as well?" Nefertimon asked as they continued to fly.

Nathan tilted his head, and wondered if she somehow missed some of his announcements, "I am, I'm part of the Command Staff. And Digimon?"

It sounded vaguely familiar only because he thought Monty briefly mentioned it to him once.

Command staff? Hikari blinked. "Wow... that's..." Cool? Awesome? Intimidating? Hikari really wasn't sure which.

"And well... it's kinda difficult to explain. Back on my world there was another world connected to it, actually created from the world's computer systems... that's the Digital World, where Digimon come from..."
