Kenobi!

Vader's eyes snapped open as he jerked to consciousness, his last memory of Kenobi's smirk burnt into his memory. The treacherous Jedi had thwarted him again. Why he was not dead was beyond him, but the second time Kenobi had left him for dead without having the stomach to actually finish the deed would be the last.

His mouth curled disdainfully as he surveyed his surroundings. It may have been foreign, but he recognized a medcenter when he saw one-- and liked it as little as he liked any other. The ventilator tubes had been reinserted into his nose, and he began to examine the large machine he was bound to. He could, in theory, take it apart and convert it into something more manageable. He had no idea if his kidnappers ever intended to return his suit and lightsaber. If he wanted his revenge on Kenobi and reclaim his son (his son-- no, he had to put that out of his mind), he would have to act quickly, before the...ship...realized his intentions.

"Hey- don't do that." Sofia said, getting up. "You'll just hurt yourself." She came closer, ready to put the screws back in if she had to. "And no, I really don't know. I was only a student at Xavier's and they kicked me out."

Vader turned and gave her a very long, condescending look. "I will do what I please. It is not possible to do any more harm here."

He went back to tinkering, unable to ignore her presence. "I assume you could gain re-admittance if you learned to behave as one on the cusp of adulthood should- it is clear you are in need of more schooling."

"Isn't that helping you breathe?" Sofia was silent for a moment. "They kicked me out because I lost my powers, not because of anything I did." Damn Emma Frost.

"I, in turn, am going to utilize my knowledge to help this machine serve me better," Vader pulled a few wires, scowled as the ventilator squealed in protest, then re-inserted them.

"Lose? You misplaced innate abilities? They do not simply vanish."

She seemed to be from one of the numerous worlds he had heard about-- this was an opportunity for information he could not dismiss.

Sofia frowned at Vader's continued messing around with the intubator but it he accidentally turned it off she could always for the air in manually. Not that she'd ever tried it before.

"They did. I wasn't the only one. Most of the mutants were depowered. They didn't tell us why and they couldn't fix it, not even Josh. Somehow Stacy gave me my powers back. I don't know how she did it but she healed my injuries too."

"Mutants? You appear baseline human," Vader remarked suspiciously, giving her a sharp look. "And you are not touched by the Dark Side."

He chose not to respond to her return of power. He was powerful enough, no matter what Kenobi had taken from him.

"My mutation may not be as obvious as some of my friends but," She raised her hands and created a small, localized whirlwind of air in front of her. "I am still a mutant."

This intrigued Vader enough to stop what he was doing and stand, still leaning on the bedpost, to examine her powers in action. Even with the Force, he felt nothing resembling the Light Side- only her own body at work.

"Is it common on your planet, this power?"

"It used to be." And like that, the wind stopped and was still. "But not anymore. Not when I was taken by Stacy."

Vader took a stab in the dark, mostly based on what he would have done.

"Genocide? Even with the power to control the air around you?"

Sofia shook her head and leaned back against the hospital bed. "No, I don't think so. Although there were many who tried. They killed most of my friends, even when they didn't have any powers. And some who did. But I never heard what- or who- depowered everyone. They said 98% of mutants lost their powers in one day."

"The Force will take from many to reclaim the balance," Vader shrugged. "It is an unfeeling entity."

"There was no Force in my world. Unless you mean God. I asked Him why many times but He never answered."

"Life existing without the Force?" Vader snorted. "Inconceivable. Your planetary ruler has set himself up as a deity? He is manipulating his civilians, then. Your galactic government must be lacking."

Oh, Vader. You are a terrible man.

"...Planetary ruler? No, no there were many different countries and governments were I'm from. And no one is claiming to be a god. I'm Christian." As if he'd understand that.

"You said you were a mutant, but you appear humanoid," Vader said, confused. "Does your planet have no contact with the others surrounding it?"

"I'm human. My planet, well, the super heroes run into aliens a lot, the Kree, Skrull, Shiar, but they don't usually come." Unless they were trying to kill the Phoenix line. "So no, not very much contact."

"Alien is an acceptable term on your planet? Bizarre."

"I'm sorry. What should I call them?" She knew what it was like to be called 'alien'... and 'illegal' and all sorts of things. It was the accent.

Vader shrugged. "It is your planet, I cannot say. Most would use the term 'non-humans'."

"Oh. I will remember that, thank you." She paused. "Are there many non-humans where you are from?"

"But of course. Humans are merely one species among thousands of other sentient beings, some humanoid, some not."

"Have you been away from your own planet very much?" True, she was guessing she knew quite a bit about him but she might be mistaken. And besides, it was always best to hear it from someone themselves. "What's it like?" She couldn't hide the eagerness behind the last question.

"I would not say Tatooine was my planet," Vader replied, bitterly. "It is consumed by deserts. I have not been there in...years."

Not since his mother died.

"My duties require that I am in space or abroad most of the time. I would say I have been to...including Imperial Center and the inner rim, perhaps two hundred planets?"
