Just for show

Char has only one focus in mind when he reaches the hangar - well, technically, two.

Sure enough, there stands his Sazabi, looking to be completely undamaged from its fight with the Nu Gundam standing next to it, despite Char having a rather vivid memory of it being nearly totaled no more than a day ago, tops. Pleased as ever, Char mounts the scaffolding next to it and makes a beeline for the cockpit. He doesn't have any particular plans for the unit (although Nu being right there within punching distance made vandalism awfully tempting), he just feels the need for the familiarity of its cockpit, and the psycoframe system, in the strange, strange new world he had suddenly found himself in.

"Never thought I'd be this attached to a unit," Char mutters to himself as he starts the machine up and dons the psycommu helmet unit to link up with the sensor and weapons systems. "I must be getting dependent in my old--"



"Wh-what the hell is this pressure?" Char practically yells once he's connected to the psychoframe. "It's enormous...could it be the ship?"

Char takes the helmet off, disconnecting himself from Sazabi's psychic enhancement. He's breathing heavily from the effects of the shock. "That's going to take some getting used to."

"That would be the name for that whole design lineage back home," Char says when Kira reaches the top. "Gundam's been my worst enemy and my best friend...usually worst enemy, though."

"The official term for them was the G-unit series; 'Gundam' was a nickname I gave them off of the OS that they used." Kira had examined the suit on his way up - some of the elements looked familiar, but it was clearly nothing he'd ever seen before.

"There were Gundams on both sides of the war, so... I guess you could say something similar for me."

Char nods. "People would try to claim them, or build things with the same design, just for propaganda reasons, but in the end, mobile suits are just weapons. What matters is the will of their pilots."

"That's true," he agreed. "They can't do anything we don't tell them to. They're tools of war, nothing more."

Kira pointed out over the cavernous hangar bay to where the Strike Freedom stood, grayed-out and inactive. "That's the one I flew," he says. "The X20A Strike Freedom."

"Looks a bit...monochrome," Char observes. From his giant red eyesore of a command mech.

"It's powered-down right now," Kira explains. "It's the Phase Shift armor that gives it its color, and that isn't active outside of flight."

"Phase Shift Armor?" he asks. "That's a new one to me."

A nod. "Yes, Phase Shift. It reinforces the suit's armor as long as the power lasts. It works well against any kinetic weapons - it's pretty much invincible against bullets or missiles - but beam weapons are better at getting through it."
