pilots make the worst patients? | medbay [OPEN]

[Bendytimed to the morning after this post]

Tycho had slept for a very long time indeed- obviously he'd need a lot of recuperation from Arha's healing. After he finally awoke, he got on the com network and sent messages to those people he knew, letting them know that he was okay.

Now, he had been ordered to stay in bed until the doctor came to check up on him again, so he sat, with the head of his bed raised, data pad in hand, looking over the numbers from the latest Rogue Squadron training exercise.

He's honestly not paying that much attention to what he's doing. Won't you come in and bother him?

Arha had eaten and then fallen asleep, glued to Tycho's bedside, her fingers curled into a light fist and her cheek against the edge of the bed. She had slept for at least as long as he had, if not a bit more, her coppery hair mussed as it had slowly but surely fallen out of its elaborate braids. It was mostly free, now, tousled and wavy against her shoulders and forearm.

She half dozed, still.

Predictable.

True, Rhiow had spent most of the day working - she had much to take care of, between the slow rebuild of Grand Central and her commitment to purge Haku of his corruption. The former was going... frustratingly slowly, and she had made very little progress on the latter. Hopefully a couple more days of working with the spell would shake something loose.

But still - she was allowed to go to work. She wasn't injured. "I thought you were supposed to be resting," Rhiow said, leaping up onto the bed next to Tycho's elbow. She would have walked in between him and the screen again but she didn't want to step on his chest.

Kyle stands back a bit watching his friend before shaking his head, and moving to the bed. "Are you trying to get Winter to kill me? Here I am doing a lot of nothing and my friend goes off and gets in trouble without me. I mean how's a guy supposed to feel after that?"

The smile on his face betrays Kyle's real feelings. Those who have known him long enough would also notice the concern. "You had me really worried when I got the news. Are you sure you're going to be alright?"

Her fingers curled against the blanket as she let herself drift for a bit longer, listening to him working away. It was Rogue Squadron things--it would be surprising if it were not. Arha finally shifted some moments later, forcing an eye open in an attempt to peer at him. Mostly, all she saw was blanket until she shifted a little more.

"Busy already?" she mumbled, her voice graveled by sleep.

Still dripping water from his spar with Ben, Luke tried to wring out the sleeves of his cloak as he made his way into the medbay. He was fairly certain whoever was on duty down here wouldn't appreciate the trail of drips he was leaving all over the place, but then again, it wasn't like he could do much about it. Jedi weren't able to instantly dry themselves after all. What fun would that be?

"Back to work already?" he asked, grinning as he came up to Tycho's bedside.

"Mrr," she said, whatever she had been about to say getting cut off in a pleased trill when he began scratching behind her ears. Ooooh, but he was clever, trying to derail her that way.

"You and I have to have a talk," she said, trying to sound stern and probably failing. "There are some things you should know about my wizardry."

Rhiow hesitated for a moment, thinking about where to begin. She could explain the Oath given to the Powers - but that was probably too much too soon. She knew that the thought of talking to the Powers That Be turned some people's heads right around.

She'd start with the basics. "Wizardry is... well, one of my ehhif colleagues says that the Speech is the programming language of the universe, spells are the Speech put into syntax, and wizardry is the code compiler... but then again he's a programmer himself. But the main thing that you must remember about the Speech is that it's incredibly specific. I asked you all those inane questions because all of those things about you make up your name in the Speech... and when a wizard reads something in the Speech, it makes it true." She flipped her tail. "I must know all the variables before I perform a spell. I must know what those variables affect and how. I must know the names of everyone involved."

She put her ears back forward. "In short, wizardry has rules, and many of them."

"Ben and I were in a simulation," he explained, wringing out his cloak a little more before pulling a stool over with the Force and sitting on it. "It was wet. Makes it more difficult to see--or to stop, on a slick floor."

He was quiet a moment, looking his friend over. "How are you doing?"

"You're still here and not out trying to get back to business as normal," Luke pointed out. "It wasn't good."

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
"And when Arha insists on something, you'd better obey." Luke grinned. "Don't I know that one."

"Think of it like a set of parameters," Rhiow said. "I'm reasonably certain there's more than one person with your name in the universe - because of the specificity of the wizardry, I have to make sure I target the right person with that name."

She yawned, beginning to lick her paw and wash her ears as she spoke. "I have it now. I could chew my own tail for not getting it before it was vital - I'm usually better prepared than that. The other thing you need to know is that most pieces of wizardry are bounded by circles - transports like the one I used to get you here always are." She graced him with a stern look. "So next time I tell you not to move, please don't. I was worried that you would squirm around and drop a hand outside of the bounding circle, and get it left behind. Then we would have more than just scratches to worry about."

"Mm, if it can be called morning, good morning to you," it came out as a mumble as she carefully stretched. "It is not ever done, yes." Arha pursed her lips and studied him for a good long while. He was not a person to pause, such was true--just as much as she was not. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she peered at him through the Force.

"You are feeling better?" she asked and resisted the urge to do anything but rest her cheek against her folded hands.

Sam had decided it was time for him to make his debut in the Medbay. He wanted to see if there was any space for him, or if anyone needed help with anything.

But he wasn't prepared to meet one of his victims face to face. And the one that had suffered the worst. But there was no turning back now. "Ah... hello. Are you doing alright?" he was hesitant, not sure if he would react violently or not. He lifted his hands to show that they were normal.

"She's got a certain disregard for things like rank and authority when the well-being of her friends is involved. It's one of the things that makes her such a good friend, and such a promising Jedi." Luke smiled. "And probably one of the best of the recruits here to have on your wing."

[identity profile] mercjedi.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
He steps forward and takes his friends hand holding it firmly. Politely he chose to let the fact that he knew damn well it was more than a couple of scratches pass. Just knowing Tycho was okay was good enough. "Well that's good because I'm sure we're going to be very busy soon enough. So best take your chance to use this as an excuse for rest. We have all those recruits we're going to have to teach to be sneaky."
