Or so he would've thought if he and Khaji Da hadn't been shocked into consciousness by pain. So much pain. Like his head was exploding. Khaji's 24/7 scans were pulling in massive amounts of indecipherable data, there was some kind of feedback, an overload of information, and the pain was the first thing he--that they noticed when they woke.
When they woke screaming, the suit shifting on and off of his body as the scarab tried to make sense of the massive flow of incoming data forcing itself into their brains.
"Nyeeeeargh!"

"Jaime? JAIME?!"
He could hear his friend screaming somewhere nea-- there!
"JAIME!"
no subject
"Mnuh. Can't--unh--can't think--we can't--nuh--too much--too much--scanning--too much--hitting something--feedback--aaaauuugh. Aaaaauugh."
no subject
Dammit.
"Can you turn it off?" he asked. "Khaji, Jaime, one of you, turn it off!"
Oh, good plan, play Captain Obvious.

Jaime collapsed in the pool of goo on the floor, gasping, and still holding his head for a moment, not quite able to move, even with the pain gone.
"Ow. Okay, I'm starting to think we deserved the Posse going after us after what Khaji did to Probe, if it felt anything like that. Neither of us could even think."
Jaime shoved himself up and wiped at his bloody nose with his forearm. All it really did was smear it.
"...How come we're both naked and sticky? And why is Brenda not here making a joke about it?"
The last thing he remembered, the three of them were together, and...

"Dunno," Paco said, running a hand back through his hair and flicking the collected slime off onto the floor. "Khaji got anything? Because this doesn't look like El Paso to me."
He looked around again. "If Brenda's here, all we need to do is listen for the screaming of whatever brought us here, because she's not going to be happy about waking up naked and covered in snot."
no subject
And would be highly accurate if she was here.
Jaime suited up, but the scanners stayed off, as he and Khaji tried to root through the information they got and make sense of it.
"It's alive, I can tell that much. Psychic. HUGE. There's millions of life signs in here, although most are almost like they're dead. And it's--"

"Not Brenda," he pointed out, unnecessarily. "Okay. You're super-guy, I'm sidekick-guy. What do we do now, besides avoiding pissing off the psychic voice?"
This was just levels of unnecessary creepy right here.

He looked down at the glowing pustules and gave Jaime a 'our lives have gotten so very weird' look before following the trail through the cavern.

Abducted by aliens of some kind, ho hum. Jaime tried his best to keep alert without the scarab's proximity scans.
"You are an alien," Jaime muttered to the scarab.
Without scans, there were still other ways of gathering at least some information.
"Sooo, mysterious voice in our heads," Jaime said. "Who and what are you?"
no subject
Paco and Jaime wouldn't actually hear the name, so much as feel it. It felt something like maternal love, duty, and honor all mixed together.

"Once is chance, twice is coincidence, three times is conspiracy, right?" he asked. What was it with aliens and moms?
no subject
no subject
"A conspiracy of Mom-aliens? 'Clean up your planet or no dessert'? 'Leave the atmosphere open a crack when you have girls over'?"
no subject
Jaime paused and reached out to grab Paco's arm.
It stuck out amongst the other colors.

"Pants or investigation first?"
