Light?

Oh. The Human's hand so close to the spot, Renne can't fail to 'feel' it. Cold so near to a hot little stone. Backing up a little, quite afraid of darkening the halls of Billy's own 'self' with a past shadow, the oddity's expression takes on a somewhat serious note.
"Heartless" in a lot of ways, literally applies.

"This...per-mits Life. With-out, One not exist."

A breath. He commands his temperature under strict moderation. It's likely not needed in this place/time/existence but he does so anyway, understanding at least a little about Human anatomy regarding intense heat.
With the temperature cooled down, the creature then nods, permitting a memory to play out.

-The Before-Time. When, once, he could make himself appear at least humanoid in appearance. He stood a respectable six feet and a single heart nearly ready to grow/split into its one-and-three final stage thundered inside him. He had just gone through the Time-of-Change, a process akin to death-and-rebirth.
The problem?
The seven foot tall demon standing enraged in front of him -- a former commander, furious that not only had this six-foot upstart unwittingly broken a law, he dared hold onto the NightRunner name.
"Rise from the dead, eh? Let's see you come back from this!"

A taloned hand thrust forward. In seconds, where a breastbone and the front section of a latticed ribcage resided, an empty hole replaced it.
The fledgling heart and bone lay in a talon-ended hand.-

The memory concludes abruptly, sparing the Human any seriously gory details -- no one really needs to see all that.
Without words, the stone sort of 'explains' itself as the oddity offers a smile. Strong emotions cause its glow to flare up. Strong enough and it's akin to a heart skipping a beat.
