Doctor doctor, gimme the news

After the meeting, and after some bickering with the Emergency Medical Hologram, down at the bottom of the Hub, Brainy is arranging the MedBay to his liking and familiarizing himself with the medical equipment and its functions.

Right now, for instance, as anyone walks in the door, he's wearing some sort of scanning goggles and a rather sinister-looking surgical glove with micro-scalpels, little lasers and surgical saws on the fingertips.

This makes him look like a green-faced Freddy Krueger with mad scientist goggles. For anyone that walks in like he instructed him to at the meeting, this is the first thing they see.

"Hmmmm."

Will smiles tentatively at the machinery. At least the stuff on Stacy is friendly. It's nice to meet you.

"Oh. Okay. I'm pretty sure I don't have anything weird going on with my biology. I used to have kind of a super-healing thing, for a while, but I gave it up with my friends a while ago because this little boy needed it more. But I still haven't gotten sick much since I became a Guardian."

Unfortunately for him, Will is a perceptive girl . . . but fortunately, she is also a fairly shy one. So she asks the friendlier things in the room for confirmation instead.

Is he okay? He feels kinda upset.

Will giggles softly at that. I could ask him to be a little nicer.

But then she'd have to admit to talking to machines, and that might be a little weird. Even if this guy is green like a Meridianite.

"Okay. What should I do?"

She does.

As she stands, she picks at the material of her plantsuit. "I hope we get some regular clothes soon."

The plantsuit's okay, but it makes her knees look even knobblier than usual.

"We might find some in the lockers," she volunteers.

He must be upset. He's using way too few words, she thinks.

"I don't see why she wouldn't."

She pauses, as she waits for the results.

"So . . .? What does it say?"

"I . . . don't know what that means."

He's going to make fun of me, isn't he? she asks the machines.

"Oh." Will looks contrite. "I could've told you that. I probably should have." She scratches the back of her head. "Sorry. You saw me in my Guardian form th -"

A pause, as she thinks of the glamours that come with her guardian form.

"You, um, knew that was me, right? We talked about magic . . . you were afraid I was going to turn someone into a catperson . . ."

"It helps me keep my identity secret."

A secret which has been busted all over the place here, much to Will's discredit. Still, what could she do? There were enormous evil cockroaches everywhere.

"Anyway, I don't think that's ME that's giving off all the magic. It's probably the Heart of Kandrakar."

She lifts one hand, and a glowing orb of what reads on the scanner as pure quantum probability energy appears, attached to a chain looped around her wrist.

"I'm not all that magical without it." Her jaw is set in a determined line. "But I've been its keeper for nearly a year now, and nobody can take it away from me without my permission."

"What?" Will frowns. "Because it's powerful and dangerous and can be used to take over worlds."

Duh. Aren't you supposed to be the smart one, Brainy? The Heart vanishes in a flash of light and Will crosses her arms.

"But that's why it has a Guardian. So that nobody can do that." She glares at him sternly. The presence of her Guardian form is absent in her normal one, but she scolds him with her expression as if this were not the case. "And believe me, they've tried."

And failed! So there!

Frown.

"That's not how it works. Why are you making fun of my magic? What is your problem?"

[identity profile] its-keeper.livejournal.com 2009-02-17 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Will rolls her eyes. "I'd have waaaaay fewer problems in math class if I could make the answer whatever I wanted it to be."
