Mission 02 - Stacy Says Follow the Yules

There is a resounding mental alarum that sounds through the ship. Nearly "deafening." Lights flash from places for extra emphasis, making it impossible to ignore.

||Attention, Attention. All personnel please report to the Observation Deck. Attention, Attention. All personnel please report to the Observation Deck. Attention, Attention, all personnel...||

It's entirely likely that she won't stop repeating the announcement until, well, everyone reports to Obs Deck. Outside the windows, a very Earth-like planet is visible, hanging in space. The mouth in the huge statue opens, revealing a screen. On it, the dossier for the mission flickers into display, understandable to every person there. Smaller copies of the dossier appear in holographic form in front of everyone.

The planet's stats, right next to a rotating holographic picture of it, marbled blue and green, are as follows:

Planet Designation: Earth-78734XM45
Status: Terrestrial, H-class.
Non-sentient life: Extensive flora and fauna.
Semi-Sentient Life: Yes.
Sentient Life: Homo Sapiens. [Various translations of "human" appear here so everyone understands it]
Water: 69.5% of the planet's surface.

Climate: Earth-like, in the throes of a mild nuclear winter [Click here for cultural equivalents for non-Earth cultures.]
Landscape: Varied.
Air: Normoxic concentration. Slightly elevated levels of carbon dioxide.

Air Pressure: 101.3 kPa (kilopascals) = 14.7 psi (pounds per square inch)
Sky: Blue. Often overcast.
Sun: A class G2V, yellow star.

Warnings: Wildlife and plant-life can be hazardous. Humans can be hazardous. A human cultural and legal database is available. [click here]

Mission: Revive the spiritual entity at the North Pole.

Following that, there are various maps and things visible. The version of Earth this world is may be very recognizable to some, but vast cities dot its surface.

||Attention, podmates. Attention.||

Apparently Stacy wants their attention.

||It is critical that you pay attention at this time.||

A few people will be able to avoid the call by being in the right place at the right time, but most will be gathered up on Obs Deck.

[ooc: Organization Post | You can post into the gathering thread. I'll add more subthreads with explanations of aspects of the mission as we go. Note: If you don't have time to post to this mission briefing but still want to have your character in the plot, that's fine. You can just pretend they were there the whole time. If you DON'T want your characters to be in this plot altogether, however, don't have them in the briefing--Stacy could have missed snagging them.]

Shadow Link wasn't sensitive to extreme temperatures. He could still feel them, but he felt fine with just one layer of the warm clothing.

"Can you even see in that get up?" Shadow Link asked, stopping beside Sheik. He wasn't sinking in at all, preferring to just float above the surface of the snow an inch or two.

It was the first time he'd actually floated in a while. Well, unless he counted the fighting the zombies, but it wasn't quite the same enjoyment.
redeyes_andblue: (S - small smile: that wasn't too awful)

Oh, floating would definitely come in handy now... even if he was doing much the same, manipulating the shadows beneath his feet to be a little more solid.

"Mostly," he shrugged - alright, slight disadvantage on his left side, but that was less to do with his outfit and more to do with his hair. "Are you alright in just that?"

Shadow Link shrugs. "If I just went around as a shadow, I wouldn't feel anything at all. But it's too bright of a night for me to really want to do that," he said, looking around. The snow had to be reflecting what little light there was. It was bouncing around too much for him to want to.

He could deal with a little cold for a bit more resistance against the light.
redeyes_andblue: (S - confused: what in the three's name?)

[personal profile] redeyes_andblue 2009-12-28 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Mm, I suppose." Green lights in the sky - the shadows over the snow are pale and wavering, utterly bizarre but at least enough to manipulate. "There is enough to manipulate, at least... but this is a very strange light."

"It's night. There should be plenty. It's just how snow is. Seems to hold it all in," Shadow Link commented, looking around more carefully. "Why I prefer a volcanic mountain instead of another. Enough heat, snow doesn't build up and it's dark when it should be." Unless you were in the volcano, but there was plenty of shadows there.

"You've been to Death Mountain?" Sheik pulls a face. "I've been there a few times... Goron City was fine, but I honestly thought I was going to collapse in the crater."

Still, if it helped Link...

"I had set up base on Death Mountain," Shadow ink explained. "Never saw any of the Gorons who were supposedly to be there though," Shadow Link said, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. Odd, now that he thought about it. Where did they go anyway?
redeyes_andblue: (S - apathy: cryptic bastard)

Re: The Polar Night

[personal profile] redeyes_andblue 2009-12-28 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe they had moved on," Sheik muses, "The Gorons have known to be migratory on occasion... the follow the best rock."

Re: The Polar Night

[identity profile] actuallyahero.livejournal.com 2009-12-29 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
"That could be," Shadow Link said, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "They don't sound like they would be a run and hide type, anyway."
redeyes_andblue: (S - small smile: well then)

Re: The Polar Night

[personal profile] redeyes_andblue 2009-12-29 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
That gets a smile. "No, they're not ones for subtlety, much. If they were around, you'd know about it."

Re: The Polar Night

[identity profile] actuallyahero.livejournal.com 2009-12-31 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, it did make things easier for me and the Cyclops," Shadow Link said with a shrug.
redeyes_andblue: (S - confused: I have no idea)

Re: The Polar Night

[personal profile] redeyes_andblue 2010-01-01 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
That's getting a blink. "The Cyclops?"

Re: The Polar Night

[identity profile] actuallyahero.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
"I said I had been working for Ganondorf. Cyclops were the forces I had on Death Mountain," Shadow Link said.
redeyes_andblue: (S - confused: I have no idea)

Re: The Polar Night

[personal profile] redeyes_andblue 2010-01-01 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh," he said with a slight frown - not disapproval at working for Ganondorf, just a moment of puzzled thoughtfulness. "Hmm. I don't think I have ever seen of anything in Hyrule called a Cyclops."

Re: The Polar Night

[identity profile] actuallyahero.livejournal.com 2010-01-03 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Really? No big hulking humanoid figures with only one eye?" Shadow Link asked. "Didn't think they were a new species..."
redeyes_andblue: (S - apathy: neutrality)

Re: The Polar Night

[personal profile] redeyes_andblue 2010-01-03 09:56 am (UTC)(link)
"A few big hulking humanoid figures with two eyes," Sheik said helpfully, "Like Moblins, and some things with only one eye, but nothing combining the two. At least, as far as I've seen."

Re: The Polar Night

[identity profile] actuallyahero.livejournal.com 2010-01-15 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Hm, maybe the trait just got breeded in when one of the two eyed hulking beings was born with a deformity?" Shadow Link said with a shrug. "They aren't very bright."
redeyes_andblue: (S - small smile: well then)

Re: The Polar Night

[personal profile] redeyes_andblue 2010-01-15 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Sheik stifled a laugh. "Inbreeding, perhaps. That would explain a lot - although, over time, new monsters do tend to appear that bear little resemblance to the ones of the past."

Really, he was better qualified than most to make that observation. Shrugging, he added, "I remember things from a long time ago that are no longer around, and some that seem to have come out of nowhere."

Re: The Polar Night

[identity profile] actuallyahero.livejournal.com 2010-01-17 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
"It's weird how some creatures do that. Where there's no source for them, it seems," Shadow Link said, looking around. "Kind of like you'd never expect to see anything here."
redeyes_andblue: (S - apathy: neutrality)

Re: The Polar Night

[personal profile] redeyes_andblue 2010-01-17 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
Sheik gave him a look. "Naturally, now that you've said that, this place will probably be swarmed with monsters."

He sighed, stretching a little. "Well... we should probably get started with the mission."
