Hubris is defined in the dictionary as: a noun which means excessive pride or self-confidence or arrogance. (dictionary.com)

Hubris in Xander's case meant that after laughing at Carol getting stuck by the mistletoe, the one eyed Scooby should have realized it was only a matter of time before GLADOS caught up with him. So while being suddenly stopped by a forcefield and told that a crewmate needed to show affection wasn't that big a surprise; it sure as hell was annoying and a nuisance.

"Oh come on! Hey, can't I trade this for cake? Or the maze! I'll take the maze behind door 2 if you let me out of here!"

Although she had several things to do (eventually finding this Hanukkah party being one of them) Katara came across one of her old friends from the jail cell: she could recognize him by the eye patch. She gave a grin when she realized exactly why he was staying there, and saying funny things too: it looked as if GLADOS had just caught up with him and he wasn't liking it.

"Hey Xander!" Katara said, giving him a wave. "Whatcha doin?"

Xander gave her a sheepish grin and wave, "Hey Katara, uh, crazy maze computer lady thought to play a lil' joke on me. Kind of stuck."

Katara giggled. "Trust me, I know all about it. I've had to kiss a guy and a girl to get out of those stupid mistletoe plants. It looks like you might be here longer than you have to unless someone helps you out. Want me to lend you a hand?"

Xander gave her puppy eyes, or rather eye, so it's not quite as effective or maybe doubly so due to the extra pathetic aspect of the eyepatch.

"Would you? I'd get you whatever you like if you do."

Katara giggled. He was being playful, and that made it so much easier. But she had also been watching and listening to things, so she knew exactly what she was going to ask Xander.

"Tell you what: you try and not shooting at my good friends and mother figure like Carol, and I'll get you out. I mean, come on Xander: we all have to do our part not to kill each other. Even...if some people act like they deserve it."

And here she glared, thinking of a certain arrogant redhead.

Xander's mouth dropped open in protest as he exclaimed, "Hey! She attacked me! And was going on that we shouldn't have tried to ice the slug! Even after I explained how that slug's just like the threats killing people back home."

Katara did glare here. "Xander, you still shot at her! Whether you think we're right or wrong isn't the issue: you SHOT at her. Don't you think she'd still be mad about it, only a little? I know I'd be, no matter what side we were on! I don't even think even you'd be happy about that."

She wouldn't mention her feelings about the Yeerk now. But true to her wrd, she walked over to Xander and gave him a soft kiss on the lips.

"I wasn't trying to kill her, it was just to keep her away! I'm not the bad guy here."

Xander did relax a little at the kiss, and stepped away from the booby trapped area.

"Thanks."

"Well, she's still mad about it. I'm not saying you're a bad guy. Just...think about it, okay?"

Katara grinned. "No problem, glad I could help! By the way...did you meet Buffy yet?"

Xander started to answer that, but was immediately distracted by the name mentioned last.

"Wait, wait, Buffy's here? Buffy Summers, one of my best friends? She's here? Since when?" And why hasn't he seen her?

Katara looked a little stunned.

"You mean she didn't go to see you? I thought she did! Um...er, maybe she was busy?"

Xander shook his head, "No, she didn't. Aw hell, I hope she's ok." She was really good at fighting, but maybe GLADOS had her somewhere stashed away in those stupid mazes or something.

"I gotta go find her. Thanks Katara!" He yelled as he went to run off.
