Department Meeting [Mainly for Security, but OPEN to everyone]
Leon had called for a full staff meeting for the Security team, though it was also open to whoever else wanted to attend. He had gone easy on his group since the Bridge mission, mostly giving them time to rest, recover, and deal with the things they've all been told. But now it was time to start moving forward again.
The meeting was being held in the Precinct, in one of the larger conference rooms. He gave time for people to file in and sit down where they would. Once everyone was settled, he addressed the group.
"First of all, thank you all for coming. For those of you who don't know me, I'm Special Agent Leon S. Kennedy, from the United States Strategic Command, and current Chief of Security here about Transmigration 9.
"A couple of weeks ago, we all learned some startling information. That our worlds were gone, destroyed by the Ohm, and we're all that remains. That we've been chosen to travel across the multiverse to fight the Ohm, save what remains, and possibly restore what was lost.
"All of that may or may not be true, and we have people working to verify that one way or another. The only thing we know for sure is that, unfortunately, we're all stuck here for a while.
"Because of that, there'll be a few changes around here, most of which you'll hear straight from the Captain and the Commanding Officers in the coming days. As for this department in specific...
"Security was formed with the intent to be the first line of defense for this crew; to protect them from any threats on this ship, and sometimes to protect them from each other. That hasn't changed, and never will. How we operate is going to change, however.
"For the most part, we've taken a defensive posture, waiting for something to go wrong before we deal with it. But a Fix on Fail strategy isn't going to work anymore. Now, before you get started, no, we are not going to start hunting down and locking up crew members who may be a problem someday maybe." He wanted to be clear on that point, particularly with a crew as prone to kneejerk reactions as this one. "But, acid spitting roaches, one of which was crossbred with an Ohm; a variety of class 4 viral and biological weapons, all gathered in a failed experiment to create a biological weapon to annihilate the Ohm; the Nightmare King trapped in Escherville; HAL 9000; the Yeerks... these are all threats that originated on board. Things that were left behind when the previous crew abandoned ship.
"We need to find out what else they left behind; what other experiments they had going that have been left unattended for God knows how long. To that end, we need to root through every section of this ship, search it from stem to stern to locate and deal with these problems. We'll also be working with Engineering and Neuropathy to locate threats and malicious programs in the computer systems.
"In addition, we're also going to be expanding our duties to become a full blown Emergency Services Unit. We have to be able to deal with everything from heated arguments and hazmat spills to heart attacks and hull breaches. Some people here would be better suited for certain tasks than others, but everyone will crosstrained in a number of disciplines. I don't want to be caught short handed because we only had a few people trained to handle, say, hazmat spills, happened to be on an away mission, or were busy running through a maze, looking for cake.
"As for dealing with the crew themselves, Stacy has generally handled that, but we do have a bit more leeway now. We can interfere physically in conflicts between crew members without worrying about violations, provided you're not using excessive force. If you feel the behavior of a crew member has warranted something more than just a violation, you can haul them down to the brig where they can sit and cool off for a day or two, and any other additional penalties will be handed down by senior command, if necessary." Because that whole trial thing worked out ever so well last time.
"We have a lot of work to do, people. None of us want to be stuck here, but so long as we are, we need to make sure everyone stays as safe as possible."

Re: In Private!
Besides, the professionalism spoke well of the man.
"Enter," Leon called back from inside.
no subject
Whoever he was, it was best to go ahead and introduce himself, as well as give him a good, firm shake of the hand. And he did just that, extending his hand with a rather serious expression on his face (when DIDN'T his face have that look, seriously?") as he did so. "Nicholas Angel, based out of Sandford, England."
no subject
Leon greeted him with an equally serious expression and a firm handshake. Which, really, he wore about 97% of the time. Only a handful of people knew he actually had emotions.
"So what can I do for you, Sergeant Angel?" Not that he couldn't guess, but it was better not to assume.
ARGH SORRY
"Police work is, and has always been, what my life has revolved around," he explained without hint of emotion either, and very few people knew he had those as well. "I spoke to a man named Inspector Javert, and he referred me to you, so here I am."
no subject
But this would apparently take a minute. Leon took a seat behind his desk.
"I'm always looking for qualified people. How long have you worked for the MPS?" No point calling it Scotland Yard, since they weren't headquartered there anymore, and haven't been for quite some time.
no subject
"Fifteen years," he replied. "I attended Canterbury University, graduated with a double thirst in politics and sociology, went into training, and then graduated into the Metropolitan immediately after that. My Uncle Derek was a sergeant as well. I worked as a constable before being sent out as sergeant to Sandford approximately...around a week before I woke up here."
There was clearly much more to it, many more credentials and the like, but it was also clear that Nicholas wasn't going to delve into massive detail on his own. It felt like bragging, and he wasn't a fan of it in the least.
no subject
It was like looking in a mirror. Only not.
"That certainly qualifies you for a spot in Security. Though, obviously, this is still a far cry from the MPS. There's a lot you'll have to adjust to. Werewolves, cyborgs, individuals with superpowers, and kids who pilot giant robots." It was crazy here sometimes.
"Do you think you'll be able to deal with all of that?"
no subject
And stared.
It was a good stare. It lasted quite a while. Then a small smile quirked on the edge of his lips before disappearing immediately, almost about a tenth of a second that it was there. Then it past.
"After Sandford, and after talking to a few individuals here, I'm completely certain I can handle anything this place has to throw at me," he replied, nodding his head once, smartly. "Not something I know anything of back home, and I briefly thought this was a mass abduction where everyone was flying high as kites on some sort of drug, but it appears to be reality, and so I can handle it."
no subject
But at least Nicholas was giving it serious thought.
As it was, Leon didn't flinch under Nicholas' stare, his expression remaining neutral.
"It's a lot to wrap your head around, I know." Even Leon barely could. "But if you're sure you can handle it, then welcome aboard. You can pick out an office space to use, and I'll assign you a temporary partner to help you get adjusted."
no subject
"That would be perfect," he replied, nodding his head again. Danny Danny Danny where is he he can't be dead he's just in recovery, yes, not dead— "Thank you...are you a sergeant or...is it 'Mister' Kennedy?"
no subject
"And you're welcome."
no subject
"What is all this I heard about zombies, then?"
It was a well-warranted question, after all.
no subject
"The crew who previously manned this ship, in addition to kidnapping all of us, also picked up a few other things from various worlds in the process. One of those things they picked up were several highly lethal genetically engineered viruses along with parasitic organisms. Some of which had the side effect of turning an infectee into a mindless zombie like creature.
"From what records we could find, their intent was to crossbreed and further engineer the viruses into a biological weapon to unleash on the Ohm. Eventually, the figured out that what they were working with was too dangerous, shelved the project, and placed the samples in storage.
"A few weeks prior to your arrival, however, a malevolent AI Program known as HAL 9000 released some of the samples into the pod caverns in an attempt to infect and kill the crew population. The spread of infection was eventually stopped, but not before the deaths of just over fifty-four-hundred crew members."
no subject
That was really all he could think of to equate it to.
