New and Interesting Smells [Open]

Bella's been exploring since she's been given freedom to roam a zombieless ship again. Lots of strange new places to investigate, to smell, to look at.

Mostly to smell.

The werewolf's wandering all over the ship, investigating new smells and refamiliarizing herself with the conglomerate scent of "crew", now that it has a few new members.

It's also helping her relax. They're here with her. She is not alone. They're like a sort of almost-pack, and that helps her hold on. Things will be okay as long as she isn't alone. Her thoughts are a little agitated still, but she's adapting and moving on.

To anyone else's eyes, there's a wolf wandering around without any sign of a collar or other restraint. She seems calm.

Bella looks up at the person addressing her, turning one ear off to the side.

"I must learn them. That is all. Smells that are part of the crew-smell," she explains.

"You are new," she adds simply, with a somewhat blunt but undemanding note of curiosity.

Ah, a talking wolf. Not that it makes much of a difference, in her case.

"I am." Satori bows politely in greeting. "Satori Komeiji of the Palace of the Earth Spirits, youkai and mind-reader."

"This one is Bella, Lupus Ahroun of the Get of Fenris," the wolf replies formally.

"What are these last two things you say?"

As usual, Satori opted to answer by example rather than direct information. "A 'mind reader' is someone who knows that you're trying to connect me to something called the 'Umbral' in your head right now."

Bella bristles and growls. "How?" She flattens her ears and shows her teeth a little, thoughts racing now. How does this person know this? The Umbra is known only to Garou, isn't it? She's sure it is. What if this person can hear her thinking right now? Maybe she should stop thinking so they can't...

...Thaaaaaat doesn't work.

Have some freaking out and suspicion.

Rather than continuing with the spooky mind-reader act, Satori stepped back, smiling nicely. "Don't worry. You can speak, so there's no need for me to read your heart."

The wolf makes a schuffing noise. "What makes it so that you may?" she replies, still edgy about this. Bella doesn't like the idea of anyone or anything knowing what she thinks. Not that she has any deep dark secrets, it just bothers her.

"I inherited the Third Eye upon my birth." From its resting place over her heart, the Eye blinked an acknowledgement of the explanation. "For me, looking into hearts and minds is as natural as looking at physical objects."

"Is it a spirit?" Bella peers at the Third Eye with clear curiosity. "I do not know much about spirits," she adds just a touch defensively. If only her pack's Theurge were here, she thinks for the thousandth time. One-Crow would know what this is, she's sure.

"In a sense." The Eye peers back at Bella. "But it's as much a part of me as my first two eyes."

"Some Garou have three eyes. But they are Metis," says Bella. "I do not know what I would do with three eyes. A wolf does not need that many."
She's a poor conversationalist, this one. Bella just kind of reaches into her memory for something vaguely relevant and drags it on out.

"It's not for everyone." Satori replied, casually. "I assume you are separated from your pack? It must be difficult, for a wolf."

Bella splays her ears out uncomfortably. "Yes. My pack is not here. I do not know if they are safe or not and I miss them very, very much."

Bella fights back another little ripple of pack anxiety. Jack, Claire, One-Crow... what if she never sees them again?

"Do you have something like pack to miss?"

"In a sense." Satori's mind momentarily flashes to Rin and Okuu's smiling faces. As much trouble as they cause, they're the closed thing she has to a family. "My relations with others are generally strained, but I would go to great lengths to be reunited with my pets."

"Pets?"

Bella has to ask. She kind of understands what the word "pets" means, but not fully.

"Animals that--" hmm. Maybe 'own' isn't the best word to use when talking to a wolf. "--I personally care for. In metaphorical terms, they could be considered my family."

"Oh. Like a dog?" Bella brightens slightly. She understands that. "I have seen dogs. They run with human packs sometimes."

Dogs, as a rule, do not like Bella. She's not too fond of them either, but she's figured out they're easy to boss.

"Like that, yes." Satori does own a few dogs, but they're not among her most cherished pets. Not that she intends to play favorites.

"I understand why you miss them."

"Maybe they are here too somewhere, just asleep?" Bella offers. It's what she's hoping for her pack.

"It's a possibility." Satori leaned against the wall, looking contemplative. "If we were selected by strength of infamy, then Okuu at least should be sleeping there."

"Who is this Okuu?" Bella asks. She can't quite get away fully from the pet=dog association and briefly wonders why any dog would be special enough to be here. Then again, there is Bandit. But he's some kind of awesome fighting dog.

"What makes him infamous?"

"She is my pet Hell Raven." For Satori, there are plenty of memorable things about Utsuho, but there was one in particular that atands out on the subject. "She tried to destroy the world once."

"..."

Bella flicks her ears back. "Oh."

"That sounds very bad. The Wyrm wants to destroy the world. Why would you be pack with such a thing?"

"Do you not believe in second chances?" Satori smiles. "Okuu's heart was not at fault; she was simply led astray."

"How?" Bella asks. "Destroying the world is very bad."

Werewolves don't tend to be good at the second chances thing. They're too angry and impulsive most of the time.
