Newbie Meet N' Greet

Meet n' Greet, smell my feet, gimme something good to eat! Unfortunately, the newbie meet and greet takes place the same time the command staff is congregating, so they might be a little late to the party.

But the crew is there to welcome the newcomers and explain their situation. At the end of the milling and spilling about, the command staff is going to start a general meeting to apprise everyone of their situation and discuss their next course of action:

Getting off the damn ship.

Daimon did not wish to be here. He would much rather have remained in one of the churches in the city. But if he were going to act like a minister, God help him, he supposed that he should at least attempt to act like one.

Shortly after seeing the flood of people in the room, Daimon changed his mind.

He kept to the edges of the crowd and was about to leave when the psychic vibrations about him felt odd. At least more so than usual.

Curious, he followed the new vibrations to their source, a strong, attractive young woman wearing a cross necklace and bearing a scythe and stake.

He liked her all ready.

Buffy saw the guy with the - Why would anyone do THAT to their chest? - tattoo and raised an eyebrow. Something inside of her clicked and she tilted her head.

Warily, she made her way to the man looking at her with - wait, was he undressing her with his eyes, because that look was filled with all sorts of appreciation and just...

Ew.

If Daimon noted her disgust or caution he made no mention of it. "By your weapons I presume you deal with the paranormal, or at least vampires." He gestured to the stake. "Am I correct?"

"What, these?" Buffy held up the stake and the scythe. "No, god no, not at all. I'm just building a really little fence for my pet ferret." She eyes the tattoo all up close and personal-like. "What's with the ink?"

His fondness for Buffy was quickly dissipating. "Ink? Is that an extension of the sarcasm you so eloquently used?" Look, Ma! He could do it too!

"No, that's just another word for tattoo. You know, like how douche is another word for not a very nice guy?"

"I did not know either and no, it is not a tattoo."

"That was actually...an attempted insult. So, what, it's an incredibly elaborate birthmark? Or is it one of those nifty bandages where you can't see the bandage?"

"Yes, that fact did not escape me. It is the former."

"That's...an incredibly elaborate birthmark? I feel so sad for you. Can't you, like, have it removed?"

Daimon's voice was flat when he spoke. The only trace of emotion was that of annoyance. "I can have it removed no more than you could have your brain removed, although I have my doubts about the latter's existence."

"Before I counter that with a sharp, witty reply, I just wanted to know: Are you, by any chance, a demon or a dark sorcerer or an exiled god from a hell dimension?"

"You are partly correct. My mother was human but my father is Satan, the Adversary. The birthmark upon my chest is but one of the many burdens inflicted upon me by my unholy heritage."

"Wait, I'm sorry. Son of Satan?" Buffy smiled darkly. "Gosh, that just makes this so easy." She took a step back and swung her scythe forward in a wide, sweeping arc.

She was beheading him.

It was fortunate that he had been expecting such a reaction. Daimon ducked and stepped away from the Slayer.

What a shame, so much fire in such a beautiful woman who has sealed her own fate. Kill her.

Daimon fought back a growl. "You are not the first to mistake me for a villain."

Buffy let the scythe drop idly by her side and glared at Daimon. "Ew, what? Don't tell me. Since you're half-human, you have a soul, and that makes you a force for the side of good and light."

"A soul? I have two. I should hope that one, at least, may be considered good as I have strove all my life to do the Lord's will, as woefully inadequate as my efforts have been. If you believe that I serve my father you are mistaken. I am an exorcist."

"Right and I'm Linda Blair, look at my fun little headspin," Buffy snapped. "Really? Two souls? What? Was the one-soul thing just too overdone for hell's taste? Now you have two so if you lose one there's a back-up? Uh, raise your hand if lame?"

Give her a taste of my wrath, Daimon.

Daimon grasped his trident tighter. The features of his face were morphing, becoming more pronounced, and his eyes...

He closed his eyes and forced his darksoul into submergence before looking again to Buffy and replying. "Do not mock me." While Daimon's eyes and face were now normal, or as close to it as they had ever been, his voice was low and unearthly.

The morphing thing was very...vamping-out-like.

Buffy had taken up a defensive posture purely on instinct, scythe in one hand, Mr. Pointy in the other. "I'm a Vampire Slayer. Trust me when I say you don't want to get on my I-want-to-slay-you side."

Daimon's lips twisted into what was not so much a smile as it was a slight twitch as though he were about to.

"It would seem I am all ready on that list."

"Well, you are hellspawn. Kind of in the job description to get all off-with-your-head-happy. And, you know, you don't help with the not being not-creepy."

In a moment Daimon's face changed from creepy (O.K., less creepy) to curious "You are a Slayer?"

"The Slayer, actually." Okay, so technically, it really is "a", but since Buffy's currently the Original Flavoured one, she's going with "the." "I'm Buffy."
