Cruel and Unusual Punishment

Daimon Hellstrom, the Son of Satan, was not present during the orchestrated attempt to take the captive Yeerk's life. That did not stop him from going to the precinct, to the prisoners, and delivering a sermon that was a great deal more fire and brimstone than most sermons, if not all.

The topic, if you could distinguish a coherent basis for Daimon's mad words, was centered around the ever popular Good Samaritan story. Daimon told the prisoners of the background of the Good Samaritan, how Samaritans were viewed as the enemy back then, and how the Samaritan had helped a man despite the hatred both peoples bore for the other.

But it was hard to focus on that given how loud he was. That and how his hair was periodically engulfed by flame.

Katara doesn't say a word, but her body said it all. While she was sitting cross legged, she was frowning, her hands now in her lap.

"It's very hard to meditate when an irate wanbnabe firebender keeps interrupting you for no good reason!" She erupted. "You're very rude, could you please get out of here!"

That tore it. Katara got up, anger clearly apparent on her face.

"Listen you," she said hotly, "We're already dealing with our own personal feelings about what happened out there. We don't need you coming here and making us feel worse! You may as well just admit that the reason you're here is for yourself anyway!"

"Of course they don't," Katara replied. "They felt like they were trying to save the people on this ship. Do you really think murder doesn't change people, doesn't rest heavily on them just because they did it before? It does, I know that much. I also know their worlds are different from yours and mine. Don't you think its a little arrogant to apply your version of sin and right and wrong to people who's lives and situations are different from yours?"

Katara twitched. Wsa he serious? And they actually wanted him teaching people? This was ridiculous. And what was more, it wsa even more ridiculous to get bothered by it. Hadn't Master Paku taught her to ignore blatant attempts to block her concentration?

And what would Roxie do in this situation?

"Waste your time then," Katara said. "Though I wish you were quieter. You're breaking my concentration."

She got back into meditative stance, closing her eyes.

Katara sighed. This was one person she found so infuriating she couldn't believe he was on the ship in the first place. She remembered that there were plenty of self bloated people like that she met on her travels anyway: that army general at the walls of Ba Sing se, or that man in charge of prosecuting Aang on Avatar day. With people like this, there was really no point in paying them attention.

She closed her eyes, attempting to get back into a clearer state.

Her dreams were becoming pretty strange as of late.
