Cruel and Unusual Punishment
Daimon Hellstrom, the Son of Satan, was not present during the orchestrated attempt to take the captive Yeerk's life. That did not stop him from going to the precinct, to the prisoners, and delivering a sermon that was a great deal more fire and brimstone than most sermons, if not all.
The topic, if you could distinguish a coherent basis for Daimon's mad words, was centered around the ever popular Good Samaritan story. Daimon told the prisoners of the background of the Good Samaritan, how Samaritans were viewed as the enemy back then, and how the Samaritan had helped a man despite the hatred both peoples bore for the other.
But it was hard to focus on that given how loud he was. That and how his hair was periodically engulfed by flame.

"I regret that people got hurt because of what I did," he answered. It was a dodge, but a dodge that made it clear that Sam still believed letting the Yeerk live was too risky.

"Yes. I wish it had been the real Yeerk that died back there. And, yes, if I thought Stacy wouldn't stop me and I could do it without more people getting hurt, I'd finish what I started."

"The same reason you or I would kill any demon that showed up on board," Sam answered, looking Daimon in the eye with a determined expression on his face. "Because I know what it can do, what it will do if given the chance, and I don't like gambling with peoples' lives. That's why."

"They die if you know how to kill 'em," Sam answered. There's something in his posture that says that he's not lying, he's not simply bluffing. Sam Winchester, clearly, knows how to kill demons.

"As a species, no," Sam replied. There was that much, at least, for what it was worth. "But, as far as I'm concerned, Schmuz made his position pretty clear when he helped those bastards hold me and the others prisoner and used us as slaves to try to kill the crew. Demons are evil because it's what they are, Yeerks are evil because they choose to be. Schmuz chose to do what he did. That makes him evil in my book."

"You think your judgment," Sam said, matching Daimon's tone and inflection. "Gives you the right to gamble with everyone else's?"

"Yeah," Sam said, looking very disappointed by that. "A court that decided I was lying and he was telling the truth. I used to think what Schral and Schmuz and the others did to me was the scariest, most inhuman thing a living thing could do to another. But that was before the people I counted on decided I was the problem and one of the creatures that did this to me was my victim."
He paused.
"I hurt people, and I'm sorry for that. There's not a moment that goes by that I don't feel ashamed for what happened. But they turned their back on me. What choice did I have?"

"I know what I did, you sanctimonious prick." Sam followed suit and stepped up to the bars as well. His breathing began to deepen and quicken at the same time. "I shot Jo. Claire, Cassie, and Geoff were hit with bullets from my gun. I hurt Ax...and Jaime in ways that scares the shit out of me. I know I'm responsible for that so don't stand there with your holier-than-thou attitude and act like I'm not. Because we both know damn well you have no room to talk."

"Yeah, well, my soul ain't gonna be worth a damn if Schmuz gets free. Because everyone that gets hurt in the process is gonna be on my hands, because I didn't stop it," Sam replied. "Besides, you're wasting your time. They won, I lost. No one's gonna trust me again after this. No one's gonna believe me. And, yeah, that's my fault. I did that. And if you really wanna help me, then save me and everyone else the speeches and get the hell out of here and let us work through this in our own way."

"The truth shines so brightly in your eyes that you cannot see it." He said softly. "In time, perhaps you shall... Perhaps we both shall."
