Cruel and Unusual Punishment

Daimon Hellstrom, the Son of Satan, was not present during the orchestrated attempt to take the captive Yeerk's life. That did not stop him from going to the precinct, to the prisoners, and delivering a sermon that was a great deal more fire and brimstone than most sermons, if not all.

The topic, if you could distinguish a coherent basis for Daimon's mad words, was centered around the ever popular Good Samaritan story. Daimon told the prisoners of the background of the Good Samaritan, how Samaritans were viewed as the enemy back then, and how the Samaritan had helped a man despite the hatred both peoples bore for the other.

But it was hard to focus on that given how loud he was. That and how his hair was periodically engulfed by flame.

"Do you repent of the crime you nearly committed?"

"I was bested by members of the sept," says Bella, though she's grudging on this point. "I submit to the will of those who are stronger than I."

"What is 'repent'?"

Daimon placed a hand over his face for a moment.

"To ask forgiveness for a sin, to regret your actions."

"Oh."

She stops there and doesn't talk for just long enough for it to seem like she's not even going to answer. Then she adds, "I don't do that."

"And why not?" Now that he was only mildly frustrated (comparatively), Daimon's head returned to normal.

"Because the creature is Wyrm and if those who are Alpha over this one wish to keep it alive then it is on their throats if it proves a threat again."

She's not looking at Daimon's face, she's looking at his hair. It's a grand mystery to her.

"Wyrm?" Oh what strange new world that has such creatures in it.

"The unmaker," says Bella matter-of-factly. "The destroyer of all things. The Yeerk creature is bad so it must be Wyrm so it is my enemy."

"Ah, you think only in absolutes? I remember when I possessed such naivete." There was an ever so slight curve to his lips.

Bella isn't so sure what "naivete" is, but she knows when she's right dangit!

"The Wyrm is the Wyrm. This Yeerk thing is as a Bane if it can steal a body. A Bane is a Wyrm thing. So, the Yeerk is a Wyrm thing." Not even going to mention its sluggy appearance doesn't help Bella's assessment.

"Garou fight the Wyrm. I am Garou. The Litany says kill the Wyrm so I kill the Wyrm."

"But," she growls a little, "My Elders in this ship-sept say no. I challenge. I fail. So I listen to my elders even if they are wrong."

"You do not even comprehend your sin, do you?"

"I do not know this word."

By which she means no, Daimon. Not at all.

Daimon really did not want to educate a wolf. He was very tempted to leave right then.

"You have done wrong."

"I have not," she replies stubbornly.

"I am not wrong and I am not sorry, but I do not challenge again."

Daimon turned aside. He was not going to even attempt an explanation. His head hurt enough as it was.

Bella's pleased with herself. She wags her tail and lets her tongue loll a little bit, in her mind declaring herself the winner.

That was the most fun she's had in this jail place yet. It gets boring down here.
