from toys to trains to videogames...[OPEN to the underagers and anyone who wants to help guard them]

All told the Sensorium wasn't a bad place to be holed up in by any means. It offered fantastical adventures to every corner of the imagination, certainly. Any kind of amusement a kid could want was here: colorful rainbow castles filled with gentle princesses and brave knights, giant platform videogames where you yourself could be the one jumping on monster's heads and dodging falling blocks, amusement parks and ice creams, paintball and petting zoos.

But that wasn't the point. The point was that the adults were doing something important and they were doing it without them. And here they'd been ordered to stay in the sensoriums. Things were happening!

Yuri and her fellow kids debated what they should use the chamber for loudly as they awaited the arrival of their guardian(s).

Rassum frassum, stupid "no teenagers" rule. Stupid having his powers wonky from lack of sun. There's probably a ton of action going on with the whole Yeerk thing and here he is on babysitting duty.

Then again, it isn't so bad. Kon likes kids, and essentially he's supposed to lead them on a little playdate to keep them distracted. Kon is good at making up stories and little adventures--and with a working holodeck-thing, the possibilities are endless.

Much as he's mentally grumbling, he's secretly fond of the little buggers, and doesn't mind babysitting at all, but he'd never admit it. That'd damage his whole cool factor.

"And lo! The ground shook and there was a mighty roar that sounded through the heavens, as the Kon Monster approached!"

[identity profile] foursleeves.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, Kon was babysitting the kidlets? Then who was Peter supposed to be babysitting? Were they supposed to be baby sitting him?

He dangles from a webline above the terrifying and nefarious Abercrombie & Fitch model stomping around underneath.

"Somebody get me a Super Sonic cheat code, stat!"

[identity profile] so-pregnable.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
It's quite possible they're babysitting each other. I mean, what better way to get two of the most immature guys on the ship out of the way than to put them at the kid's table keeping the younger kids entertained?

"They'll NEVER find the codes!" Kon says, shaking a fist at the wallcrawler. "You can't defeat me, Spider-Man!"

Well, except for the whole part where he did in the crossover...

Gauron's put a lot of consideration into whether he wants to get involved in the... situation down in the city. While it's clear that the only sensible thing to do with the Yeerk is to kill it, there are a lot of the command staff who have deluded themselves into thinking otherwise - and new as he still is to this place, he doesn't want to take the chance of alienating them just yet. Not to mention that he didn't really have a lot of knowledge of the situation, and he hadn't been involved up to this point - and meddling now might just piss off people on both sides.

Instead, he's decided to do something that neither side could possibly hold against him - head up to the sensoriums and keep an eye on the kids. "The Kon-monster, huh?" Somehow, despite the facial scars, it is indeed possible for him to look friendly and non-threatening - as he's proving now.

Sherry hung back from the others, her eyes flicking to where she'd entered the sensorium earlier. Was delivering what was basically a sentient sea slug really supposed to take this long? Where was everyone? Not that she minding talking with other children (sometimes), but she had an awful feeling down in her gut that something wasn't right, just like she'd had when the monster had come after her in Raccoon. Sherry disliked that feeling immensely and found herself resting her chin on her knees.

Well, Leon had promised he'd be careful, and told her not to worry. She could trust that he was too badass to die he would probably keep his promise. And while Claire hadn't necessarily needed to go with him, she was probably curious and concerned. Sherry swallowed and looked down at her feet.

She just had to be patient. If she were patient long enough, her parents would come back in one piece and she would laugh at herself for worrying in the first place. It was a pleasant fantasy.

Roxie is... well, 'lurking' perhaps isn't quite the right word, what with the whole lack of proper spatial layouts and enough shadow to let her do so, but she'd certainly like to be lurking if she had the chance.

Arms folded ungirlishly, she glances over at Sherry.

Vega's hanging out looking bummed out and glum. He wanted to go watch and figure out what was up with this weird alien slug thing that nobody's told him much about.

"What do you guys wanna do?" he asks.

[identity profile] in-venting.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
"I want to go back to the precinct and wait for my parents," Sherry replied, sounding only slightly irritated. "How long do you think they're going to keep us here?" If an hour went by and no one had shown up, Sherry was going home. She would kick Kon in the shin and probably break her foot to do it, if she had to. "It's kind of insulting, really."

[identity profile] toariversodeep.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Roxie shrugs. "I only went along with this because I felt like it." It's the truth, mostly.

But she's planning to go try and kill the Yeerk later if it's still alive, anyway, and she doesn't like working where she'd be in the spotlight.

[identity profile] obscura-prodigy.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Vega grins.

"We should give 'em the slip," he whispers conspiratorially. An adventure right now would be SO AWESOME.

"Anybody got anything we can use to distract 'em?"

Vega knows all about sneaking out under the radar. He's done it in Backdraft bases his whole life.

[identity profile] in-venting.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
"I think they're distracting themselves right now, don't you?" Sherry stood up and brushed her bottom off out of reflex than anything else. "What do you have in mind?" If they could give their babysitters the slip, then she could get home and start bothering her parents. Or Steve, that creeper stalking her mom.

[identity profile] toariversodeep.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
"... I have a few things," Roxie says after a moment's pause. It only makes sense, with the ridiculous number of pockets that jacket she wears has. "Stuff for a distraction," she adds quietly, momentarily unsure if her intent was clear enough.

[identity profile] venominsilicon.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
Gauron's good at seeming a lot more distracted than he is - and at moving unobtrusively. He's by Roxie's side almost before anyone would have the chance to realize he'd left his position by the door. "And exactly what kind of things do you have?" He quirks an eyebrow. "Are they something I need to confiscate?"

[identity profile] toariversodeep.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Touch me and I'll bite you," Roxie says, very flatly.

[identity profile] so-pregnable.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, attempts to entertain and distract the kids: failing.

Let's go with the thing that YJ always demanded and always seemed to work best: honesty.

"Listen, that brain-slug thing people were talking about? Did a lot of bad things, but also did some not-so-bad things. So a lot of people are all torn up on how to deal with it. There was a trial and they found it guilty and they're putting it in sluggy jail, but other people on the ship think the only safe thing is to kill it, and they know at least one person was gonna try to take it out of the picture for good. So, there could be a big, dangerous, scary, not-exciting-at-all fight going on down there. And they want you all to stay up here so you don't get hurt. We're here to make sure you stay up here, because we're talking scary guns and stuff, possibly, not like the movies. People being stupid and other people getting really hurt because of it."

[personal profile] stickyboots 2009-09-10 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"That, and no one else wanted to play Monopoly with us. Can I be the top hat?"

[identity profile] obscura-prodigy.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Vega huffs. "Guns aren't scary." Seriously, he's grown up firing weapons bigger than he is.

"I just wish I had my Zoid. I could stop everybody from fighting. You've gotta be real stupid to try to fight a Zoid when you don't have one."

[identity profile] venominsilicon.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Aren't you a little old to be resorting to threats like that?" Gauron asks Roxie, dryly; nonetheless, he's perfectly content to keep his hands to himself while she's not actually trying anything.

At Vega's mention of his Zoid, though, Gauron's ears perk up - he'd almost forgotten the kid was a mech pilot. He can use that. "I don't know - there might just be someone down there who's strong enough to take your Zoid on. Since we're in the sensoriums anyway, why don't you show me what it can do?"

[identity profile] in-venting.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Then that's just..." Oh, there were no words for how incredibly stupid that was, but the narrowing of Sherry's eyes clearly conveyed just what she thought of it. "If the decision was made by a jury of peers, and all members of that jury agreed to the sentence, then it is no longer in the hands of public speculation. So why does this idiot think he can just do whatever he wants?" Why, yes, she had been reading law books in the media library. It wasn't like she had anything better to do. "And why are the rest of them being so stupid about it?" Law was law was law. That's what kept a society growing and stable. Not idiot tantrums when someone didn't get their own was.

Sherry didn't like Kon's explanation, not at all. It wasn't a question of who had big guns, but her dad was down there, and if some idiot was trying to hurt him...

Well, she knew her strengths and weaknesses. They just didn't happen to lie behind a weapon. "I just want to go home and make sure my parents are okay. This is... taking way too long." It wasn't a lot to ask. What if her worries had ground to stand on? The butterflies in the little girl's stomach fluttered wildly. Sherry drew up all four feet and eight inches of her and crossed her arms.

[identity profile] venominsilicon.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"They're just looking at the bottom line - that the only way to make sure the Yeerk never hurts anyone ever again is to kill it. The way they're handling the situation is pretty stupid, though - there's no need to turn it into a knock-down, drag-out fight-" when a single assassin with the proper gear and some common sense would suffice- "the way some of them seem intent on doing. But, Sherry, I'm going to have to be very blunt with you for a moment, so I need you to look at me - all right?"

[identity profile] toariversodeep.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're never too old to bite someone," Roxie says dryly, and then she lets out a light sighing noise. "Monopoly's a stupid game. There are much better board games on the market."

Her gaze slides back to Gauron, though. His thoughts on the subject of the Yeerk seem to echo hers.
