open [statuary]

Statues....and more statues.....this was the building that Vash had finally happened upon after wandering for a bit. He figured that if he really wanted to know more about this place, he'd better start with whatever information on its history this place was willing to offer.

Maybe the shock just hadn't worn off, but the blond gun man was taking it all in stride. There was an up-side to this, after all; since he'd gotten here he had not heard the title 'Vash the Stampede' pass through anyone's lips. No one seemed to recognize him as the criminal worth sixty-billion double dollars. It was as though he was a regular human being, a nonentity.

And putting it bluntly, that suited him just fine. To be unknown was a relief after so many years of infamy. He almost couldn't believe it. But some of his paranoia that he might be found out was ebbing - besides, in this new reality, there were bigger things than Vash the Stampede to be concerned about. And that was a nice change as well.

The statues only confused him more, however. And when he he came to a statue of some weird looking centaur creature he goggled. Then he saw the mention about 'Yeerks'. He tried to remember why that rang a bell....oh yeah. Rei.

"Maybe there's a recording or hologram here that would tell me more." he murmured, flipping the switch at the base. He sighed; nothing had happened. He moved to the next row.

The brunette girl peeked into the statuary - she too was exploring the ship, trying to find someone (or something) she recognized. But no, all she found was a room full of towering statues, some of which were people she recognized, and some of which that weren't. But there was also a man with blond hair - Nanoha thought she'd seen him earlier at the observation deck.

She smiled at him. "I'm sorry if I'm interrupting anything."

Nanoha laughed. "Thanks for the offer, but I think I'll have to pass for now." She took a few steps into the room, looking around at all the statues. "...I don't think I've ever seen so many statues before."

"That would make sense." She nodded. "I recognize some of the people, but I've never heard of others... some of them are races I've never even heard of before."

She studied the statue with him for a moment before turning. "I'm sorry, I should have introduced myself. I'm Nanoha Takamachi. It's nice to meet you!"

She checked the statues fairly regularly on her way back from visiting the worms, playing with them, stroking their leathery hides. Sand and the flinty cinnamon smell of spice still clung to her clothes. No matter how careful she was, it was impossible to get all of it off her clothes and it seemed preternaturally attracted to her unruly dark red hair. Always had.

There was a statue of Muad'dib there, of course. One of Leto the Tyrant. Even the bust of Sister Chenoeh that she remembered from Chapterhouse.

And there was someone else too...A cheerful looking man with hair that defied gravity.

"No matter what you do to them, they don't tell you anything else."

As if to prove herself right, she flicks one. Nothing happens. "This place is cobbled together from a thousand different alien architectures. It's miraculous as many places have power as do."

She comes to a statue of The Tyrant (http://dune.wikia.com/wiki/Leto_Atreides_II). Proud features are colorless but for the blue within blue eyes, painted by someone. The plaque reads:

Leto Atreides the Second, God-Emperor of Arrakis, AKA Dune, the desert planet, home of the prescience inducing drug known as Spice. Only human to have ever merged with the Sandworm, Shai-Halud. Saved his universe from the trap of prescience.

"This one. Did you find any from your homeworld?"

"Forty five days, seven hours, sixteen minutes." She had a very accurate internal clock. "Although the nature of time here is strange."

She studied his features subtly. He had to come from a desert. He was too water-lean for any other environment. Like her.

"One of many talents." Her smile could have been flirtatious. If you squinted. She didn't miss the rumble. She didn't need Bene Gesserit awareness to get that. "Were you unable to stomach Stacy's gruel?"
